Bruce Admits ‘Big Decisions’ Needed On Current Squad As Survival Remains Paramount

Newcastle suffered a setback yesterday against Arsenal as they failed to capitalize on a golden chance of smothering Fulham’s survival hopes. A win and Newcastle would have been twelve points clear with just four matches remaining. Fulham would have had to run the table for any chance of survival.

However, that chance has gone wasted, and barring an unlikely win at Leicester on Friday, Newcastle will have to keep one eye on Fulham’s next few fixtures. So the apprehensive wait for survival, while still very likely, nonetheless lingers on.

The poor showing yesterday aside, Newcastle still must press with at least preliminary planning for this summer. Some targets seem to have been identified and there are plenty of decisions to be rendered with the current squad.

Newcastle have a few players out of contract this summer and others entering the final year of their deals. So there’s quite a bit to do over the next few months even with the expectation that the transfer budget will be paltry at best.

Steve Bruce spoke a little about the contract situation with some of his players after yesterday’s defeat against the Gunners. It seems that much of the focus is on clinching survival before certain decisions are made.

This is what Bruce said about Fabian Schar’s future along with the current thinking on contract extensions as published in The Northern Echo:

“With Fab Schar, I think there’s a clause in his contract where we can extend it. I believe that’s the case.

“With all of those decisions, there’s obviously discussions to be had when the season is done and dusted. We’re not done and dusted yet, but of course, there are big, difficult decisions to make.

“In every football club, that’s part and parcel of it. Yes, we’ve got some big decisions to make.”

“Basically, is it replacing O&D test”

doesn’t sound like it. sounds like they are signing up to not starting a super league again..

They include a new “Owners’ Charter that all owners will be required to sign up to, “committing them to the core principles of the Premier League”.

It added that is “enlisting the support of government to bring in appropriate legislation to protect football’s open pyramid, principles of sporting merit and the integrity of the football community”.

No takeover we go to war! The club is dead without one, no more rinse and fkn repeat!

As you know I’m confident on a positive outcome so I don’t imagine anything else.

keep the faith until the very end

The close horse door stable has bolted the after

The Premier League is to bring in a new owners’ charter to stop future attempts to join a breakaway Super League.

It follows Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham agreeing to join the failed European Super League last month.

All owners will have to sign up to the new rule “committing them to the core principles” of the league with breaches punished by “significant” sanctions.

The league said “a few clubs cannot be allowed to create such division”.

not as if it hasn’t happened a few times this season: Brighton x 2, Brentford, Sheffield Utd, Leeds stand out.

It’s hard to motivate Newcastle supporters in significant numbers enough to make a difference in any protest ..Why ?

Have you seen the car parks at St’ James on a match day ?

In the 70’s one might see Morris minors, Austin 1100s , a few old Mini’s and many old bangers in abundance.

The clientele has changed and you can take your pick from Porsche , High end BMW, Aston Martin, Range Rovers, and so on..

So its the well healed and the middle classes attending the match as a social event and a Jolly up ..Your not going to get any of these so called supporters motivated..Then theres the Corporate lot ..

So 25 thousand + grass roots fans and 25k there for the jolly up who could not care less.

Never gonna see them waving a placard.

Then theres the 10 thousand people who Ashley has cheesed off big time who choose to stay away.

I will never forget Ashley having to give away 10 thousand free tickets was it ?

Never ever been known at Newcastle United.

Think we lost sight of that 10k ticket give away due to Covid .

A fractious fan base , Ashley knows this , knows how many corporate seats there are , and can calculate any response to his manoeuvring and toying with our Club.

    Divide and Conquer .

    Prawn Sandwich anyone ?

Cant see any downside to that charter that’s proposed. Arguably it should have been done years ago
Imo it will fit in with Saudis as they will want to be seen to do everything for the good of the area and the game to enhance their reputation

I think we can agree that our present team is not a gifted one, apart from a couple of exceptions. It has also played defensive football for 3/4 seasons. Its mindset is to retreat. It feels comfortable doing this. As I said yesterday, Arsenal could have played their third string and still won. One win in 18 against the Gooners! We have a better record against City!
The PL are trying to close the barn door after the prized stallions have scampered. The writing has been on the wall since the PL was formed. For a brief moment in the 90s there was some competition and Leicester latterly.

Yes I hope so too. It must be so tough for these little local hotbeds of football to survive, while the owners / execs of pro club businesses in the top leagues ponce about sucking the life out of football, worrying more about searching out new markets to exploit.
Sod the punters, let’s make MONEY.

This is one thing that’s been spoiled on the blog over the past year or two!

The fact people with any NUFC info won’t share anymore for fear of abuse if it doesn’t pan out!

I used to love reading the inside info in fact I visited the blog more often looking for it ,but now nobody will share anything because some took great pleasure in berating any info that proved to be incorrect!
Personally I used to read it get excited at some of it but never got carried away by it as I always treat it as gossip & not gospel!

Basically someone on twitter (en gee) saying a major hurdle has been removed which makes the PL’ s position untenable but he can’t go into the legals and we were meant to hear something by Monday. The guy has a mixed ITK record so not holding my breath but always hoping.
