Newcastle Watch Top Defensive Target Over The Weekend – Report

The name of Kristoffer Ajer has popped up consistently over the past month has a potential summer target. The Celtic defender is entering the final year of his contract and reluctant to sign a new deal.

Recent reports have Newcastle preparing an £8m for the towering center-back, who only turned 23 just two weeks ago. So there appears to be something brewing and it’s not quieting down with summer fast approaching.

In fact, the link to Ajer continues to gain steam as the The Sun has an exclusive that Newcastle sent scouts to watch the Norwegian on Sunday. Though it was not a pretty affair as Celtic lost 4-1 to Rangers at the Ibrox.

Ajer wasn’t glaringly at fault for any of the goals, though he just couldn’t get his head on a cross to prevent the third one. He also had an assist on Celtic’s lone strike which came from former target Odsonne Eduoard.

There’s no doubt Newcastle need to freshen up at center-back with an injection of youth. Fabian Schar and Paul Dummett both will turn 30 later this year and are entering the final year of their contracts.

Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez, should he get an extension, have all reached that magical age while Florian Lejuene will be 30 when he returns from his loan spell at Alaves this summer.

While yesterday’s dismal display against Arsenal means there’s some work to do for safety, preparing for the summer will still proceed. If Ajer truly is a top target, he would be an outstanding signing at what could be a fraction of his true value due to his contract situation.

So some people did watch line of duty then. What a damp squib that turned out to be. During lockdown we binge watched all 6 series and have to say it has been easily head and shoulders the best thing on TV.

However, yesterday’s only 1 hour long finale was a major let down. I hope there is another series but only if Ted (”mother of god, give me strength fella”) Hastings is still in it.

    Ideal scenario

    New owners
    New coach

    Sell

Carroll: being cattled and finished for at least 3 years
    Gayle: Not PL standard
    Hendrick: barely league 1 standard
    Kraft: Never PL standard
Shelvey: 1 good game in 10.
Ritchie: Good passion but at 31, like Gayle, probably best suited to the champo now.
Clark: Good pro but getting more and more ”bramblesque” and not in a good way.
Atsu: Again would be good in champo / Scotland.

    Promote

    Anderson
    Allan
    Toure

    Buy

    Willock
    Playmaker
    Goal scoring Striker
    Young CB

Brilliantly written drama. Top actors as well and great storylines.

I had a feeling it would be a let down before we watched last nights finale when I saw it was only on for an hr instead of the feature length regular finales.

But it will be back for series 8 thanks to Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey 😉

Sad state of football – Man Utd and greed
When the Glasers took over in Man Utd had no debts – now they are in debt to the tune of over 500 million and in that time the Glasers have taken reputedly 1.2 billion out of the club
No wonder the sh*t state football is in in this Country

One of the most important buys we need in preseason is a box to box midfielder and been crying out for one since Diame left. We need better protection in the middle of the park.

    Defensive, defend, defend.

    No more.

Bring me 10 more ASMs, one in goal, the rest attack attack.

    Let’s see what happens.

Would be nice to have a few more in that mold that’s for sure. We got lucky with Maxi as he had a bad attitude (apparently) and many clubs turned away because of that and here he is. Tbh tho I’ve not once saw this guy who was talked about with a bad attitude. He has been nothing short of first class IMO

Yesterday’s game was dreadful, but I enjoyed the fear when he got the ball.

Didn’t come to much, mind. He needs work, but he could be the real thing… E.g. (don’t keep reading ASM) imagine him playing for Barca, any Manchester, Arsenal even.

Not sure how this myth that we had a leaky defence and we’ll just score more than you came about because of a 4-3 with Lpool. We had one of the best defences in the league.

There was never any defensive training during the KK days it was all about the attack. Lawrenson left because of that as he had naff all to do and wasn’t using his skills in the right way, his opinion.

Darren Peacock should get more recognition as he sat back most the time and let everyone fly up.

The motto was doesn’t matter how many they score as long as we score more

Ironically if Diame had not played so well during his purple patch we may have kept hold of Merino. For me he is the one who really got away. Toney and Armstrong may or may not make it in the PL but Merino absolutely oozed class.

You should put your specs on as I wasn’t saying it was a leaky defence I said if we have 11 Maxi’s on the field as Cyprus was saying we would concede loads.

Nowt wrong with our defence back in the legends days.

    Always read something twice 😉

The reason the Man U protest got national coverage was because it was the covered game to start with , all cameras there , and the fact the PL had to firstly delay KO, then eventually cancel the game.
It was bound to get national coverage.
It would of been exactly the same if Toon fans had of done the same just before a televised game was due to start.

A full boycott will never happen unless you force people not to go, and that aint allowed.
