Newcastle Watch Top Defensive Target Over The Weekend – Report

The name of Kristoffer Ajer has popped up consistently over the past month has a potential summer target. The Celtic defender is entering the final year of his contract and reluctant to sign a new deal.

Recent reports have Newcastle preparing an £8m for the towering center-back, who only turned 23 just two weeks ago. So there appears to be something brewing and it’s not quieting down with summer fast approaching.

In fact, the link to Ajer continues to gain steam as the The Sun has an exclusive that Newcastle sent scouts to watch the Norwegian on Sunday. Though it was not a pretty affair as Celtic lost 4-1 to Rangers at the Ibrox.

Ajer wasn’t glaringly at fault for any of the goals, though he just couldn’t get his head on a cross to prevent the third one. He also had an assist on Celtic’s lone strike which came from former target Odsonne Eduoard.

There’s no doubt Newcastle need to freshen up at center-back with an injection of youth. Fabian Schar and Paul Dummett both will turn 30 later this year and are entering the final year of their contracts.

Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez, should he get an extension, have all reached that magical age while Florian Lejuene will be 30 when he returns from his loan spell at Alaves this summer.

While yesterday’s dismal display against Arsenal means there’s some work to do for safety, preparing for the summer will still proceed. If Ajer truly is a top target, he would be an outstanding signing at what could be a fraction of his true value due to his contract situation.

The perception is getting mixed up. The idea that it didn’t matter how many they scored if we scored more came from within the squad not what people were saying.

Fair enough but you did start the morning with an insult. Which was uncalled for but whatever

GUARDIAN – Elneny and Ceballos had fully emphasised the long running weakness at the heart of midfield undermining the spine of Steve Bruce’s side. Fortifying that department is arguably Newcastle’s summer transfer market priority.

I hope ManU, have points reduction, it will never happen though. A NUFC fan may have punched a horse, which as terrible, a ManU fan threw a bottle at the face of a policeman, probably scarring him for life. Will he be vilified, on every news paper. They’re applauded while we are deluded.

We are so bad, I won’t be surprised if it goes to the last game if the season as relegation showdown against Fulham.

Bruce is likely to be our manager next season for finishing 17th. Just let that sink.

Maybe this is too simplistic but if in the last 14 years nufc had won a few cups, were the second highest spenders on players in the PL and currently 2nd in the Premiership and in the semi finals of the Europa League would we be protesting against the owner no matter who they were or how much they took out the club?

Bruceyboy’s shown he’s not the best at setting up defensively so why doesn’t he set up to attack? There’d be a better chance of getting a point or three and judging by yesterday’s performance, there’d be nothing to lose.

Hate to say it but Man Utd fans show us up. We could stop a game or two. Even better have an empty stadium for a televised game (after fans are allowed back in of course) but we don’t. All we do is moan.
