Over the weekend, reports claimed that Newcastle were still on the trail of Wigan striker Kyle Joseph. The 19-year-old had an impressive season for the Latics after breaking into the first team at the start of the season.
Joseph is out of contract in the summer and would cost Newcastle a compensation fee in the £500-850k range. The recent reports have Newcastle leading the race for the former Scotland U19 international.
It appears that Joseph isn’t the only 19-year-old striker on Newcastle’s radar. The Mail is reporting that Nice’s Evann Guessand has piqued our interest. The report claims Newcastle and Southampton are battling it out over the former French U18 international.
Guessand spent this past season on loan with Swiss Super League club Lausanne Sport where bagged 7 goals with 4 assists in 31 appearances (22 starts). He played primarily as a center-forward but also filled in on the left on occasion.
The Nice Academy product made his debut for the first-team last January and had 2 appearances early this season before beginning his loan spell. While it’s not mentioned in the report, it appears that his contract runs out this summer.
Newcastle need to add to the Academy ranks, especially upfront. Elias Sorensen will return from his year-long loan spell with Almere City while Tom Allan’s spell with Accrington Stanley was terminated in January after just four appearances. We also have Yannick Toure but he’ll be 21 in September and doesn’t seem to have progressed as much as hoped.
Getting Joseph and Guessand in this summer should help boost the Academy with some solid forward prospects. This has to be a continuous effort each window to add a few promising youngsters to the mix like we did with Rodrigo Vilca las summer and Matthew Bondswell earlier this year.

Comment #5Adding players to the academy yes is important, but how many in the past ten years have actually become regulars in the first team.
Can Newcastle also look at what we need for our first team and cut some dead wood.
Another season of this shite will see the dice roll to us relegated.
Priority first team, Priority New Manager, Priority New Owner.
Would be nice to get all three but first one right now should be the main one.
Some will say to hold out because we are getting purchased, I for one don’t care until that’s signed sealed and delivered.
We can’t wait around and lose out on n targets like we do every year on a fairy tale.

Definitely nothing on diary of upcoming events, so no date yet.
Don’t know if 5/7/21 has a significance or is just a case file reference number. Our case is 1402/5/7/21. The fact it looks like a date may be coincidental but I’ve checked other cases and they all end with what looks like dates. So maybe this is the document deadline date.

Ashley has furloughed all non playing staff all season so hes lost no money out of this adventure
TV money, sponsorship and staggered player payments have come in there should be no way that we shouldn’t be able to plug the gaps in our squad especially with players leaving that are out of contract
So if its the chuckle brothers in charge here is my bargain budget squad reshuffle even if we just replaced the free transfers with players we would see a big improvement:

Carroll
Atsu
Saviet
In
Benteke – free transfer
Willock – loan with option to buy
Gallagher – loan with option to buy
Even that on a budget would improve our squad significantly but if we could get rid of:

Hendrick
For a small fee and then spent the money on
Armstrong – 10 million with Matty Longstaff on loan for a season
Ajer – 8 million
That would give us some decent strength in depth especially if we stick to the 352 which seems to be the best option with the players we have
