This is the team I suspect Steve Bruce will name for Friday night’s match against Manchester City at St. James’ Park. It has just one change from the 4-2 win at Leicester City one week ago.
With Callum Wilson lost for the final three matches, Joelinton comes back into the starting eleven alongside Allan Saint-Maximin. That’s the only change as Bruce tries to capitalize on the momentum from Friday’s big win.
While Newcastle are safe as of Monday, Bruce could still field relatively the same team as last weekend. It was one of the best performances over the past two seasons so the head coach could be hoping for an encore.
Though with three matches in just one week to close the season, I do see changes on Wednesday against Sheffield United as well as the season finale at Fulham. Bruce will want to rotate the squad over our final stretch to get some players who haven’t featured in months a chance to play.
However, he’ll want to field his strongest team for this season’s Champions to try and nick a result. Newcastle are 5 points adrift from last season’s points total of 44 and Bruce has repeatedly said that he hopes to eclipse that this season.

Comment #1Even tho Krafth did play well vs Leicester, id still put Clark back in for him. This is City and that could mean a difficult night for Emil. Different kettle of fish IMO

Comment #3I think Bruce want Fernandez in the middle of the back 3. Clark isn’t as effective in the middle of a 3.

I’d be surprised if the starting 11 is any different to that one, gonna be more interesting to see who is on the bench!

Comment #7Schar cant be far off some game time – only CB we have who is suited to the right side of a 3. Would stick with Krafth on the right otherwise as Fede is much better in the middle.

Comment #14We should play Dwight Gayle in the last 3 games, then we’ll know whether he deserves another contract. Forget Joelinton he’s a knacker.
As for the coach, he’s let us into the secret of his recent winning technique. He tells the players to:
Dust yourself down, roll ya sleeves up, take the gloves off, put ya best foot forward, run around a lot, remember we are where we are and it is what it is! We’re only a small club up north! (A gem from his mentor SAF).

Comment #21So Mr. Bruce ,with his nose like a blind cobblers thumb , reckons he’s coming back to serve us up more of the same next season does he.
Well let’s see what the fans have to say about it once the inevitable bottom half of the table form kicks in and once the krauts start bombarding down on him.

Comment #25Mau Useless fans having a go at more protests tonight.
Press says theyll have 10,000 in against Fulham. Thought they would have more as a percentage of capacity as wd have 10,000 allowed. Or is that the max?

Smells of a cover up.
Reconciliation?
Who for?
The EPL?
Premier League chief executive Richard Masters says he needs honesty from the ‘big six’ who were planning to join the European Super League before trust can be restored between the league and clubs.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham all withdrew from the project within 48 hours after fans protested.
“The concept was so badly wrong and handled very badly,” said Masters.
“You need truth before reconciliation

Comment #38Steve Bruce doesn’t seem to get that he’s only in the job because the owner couldn’t reach an agreement with Rafa, who basically was only asking for Ashley to run the club right. He behaves like someone who doesn’t acknowledge the legitimacy of the fans anger toward the owners void of ambition for the club.
Other than that, I actually like him well enough on a personal level, as many do, and professionally don’t mind him now that he has added Bonna to the boot room, although for sure we should have better, but the problem of Ashley and the fans is something he just isn’t capable of managing. He’d actually be better off saying nothing about the fans or Ashley.
The squad is about 12th in relative value, but has clear weaknesses in the middle of the park and up top, so fifteenth would maybe be a tolerable effort considering player absences and not having Bonna for most of the season, although for sure on balance the football should have been a lot better.
He needs to convince Ashley to sort the squad out, continue to play better football, and stop talking about things he can’t manage, or he needs to quit, and of course we need shot of Ashley, who basically is just impossible to work for.
