Newcastle May Now Be Losing The Race For Two Early Targets

Just before our season finale at Fulham, there were reports that Newcastle had identified two targets to get done and dusted early in the window. There were Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer and Wigan youngster Kyle Joseph.

Newcastle had been linked with the duo for weeks and appeared to be in pole position for their signings. Ajer, a 23-year-old center-back entering the final year of his contract, could be had for half his value with Newcastle being long admirers. Joseph is a promising young striker who would only cost a compensation fee.

Earlier this week, the news remained quite positive on the duo. In fact, a report claimed Ajer would become our first signing once the window opened with Newcastle having agreed on a £6m deal. Local reports had Newcastle still in the driver’s seat for Joseph.

However, what a difference a couple of days makes. Ajer’s representatives have been shopping their client to other clubs around Europe and met with Bayer Leverkusen over the weekend.

The Northern Echo is reporting that Leverkusen are growing increasingly confident they’ll win the race for the 6’6″ defender. They have recent experience with Celtic as they signed right-back Jeremie Frimpong in January.

Wales Online is reporting that Swansea are now in advanced talks with Wigan over Kyle Joseph, who is out of contract at the end of the month. The young striker has been offered a new deal but looks to be on his way this summer.

Newcastle have been linked with the Scotland U21 international for months. We were reportedly willing to pay a little extra in compensation to ensure the lad comes to St. James’ Park. However, it could be Swansea who end up landing the 19-year-old.

Swansea see the youngster as one who can develop into a first-team player. Newcastle have similar aspirations for the teenager, who will turn 20 in September. With the Academy being gutted earlier this week, the Magpies really need to be adding youth prospects. That is especially the case at the top end of the pitch.

If these latest claims are accurate, then Newcastle may have lost out on two of our top targets. What compounds the frustration is that they were identified as quick deals to be completed early in the window.

If we can’t even get these players over the line who are on the cheaper side of things I think we should be worried…..

We have no idea if any of these guys were targets anyway or if they are close to joining anyone right now to be fair. Just paper talk until anything happens so i wouldn’t read into any transfer news too much.

That said, it honestly wouldn’t surprise me if we’re after garbage bin deals like Rose and miss out on other players. Things look bleak already.

The broken record of failing to sign the quality needed will never get fixed whilst MA is here. We have to pray that we can keep most of our good players….

I hope something happens soon with this blasted takeover but I am preparing myself for more disappointing transfers windows, dejected prospects within the league and overall apathy.

Good times on Mikey’s mobile discount funhouse…..

The great annual Geordie tease. An absolute guarantee that the longer we are linked to players the greater the chance they go somewhere else. Oh to be a club that could just identify players they need and then get them without all the drama. We are all mugs just sucking up all these rumours. Switch off, listen to the cricket, play some golf and see what players and owners we have come mid August. Why put yourselves thru any more stress, it’s bad enough during the season.

onmeedsun – exactly what I’m doing, stepping back and will occasionally dip in to see what is being said but not really worrying about it.

If the takeover were to happen I think some people would actually pop with excitement at every rumour lol

Leaked extracts from findings of the BBC Investigations Unit reveal Jacobs has been named the culprit for inserting obscene material into an early morning sports news broadcast on October 3. The report accuses him of bringing the BBC into disrepute and he will never work for them again. (Daily Heil)

Ashley isn`t bothered about how many players we miss out on due to his tightfistedness, he knows that come the first game of next season he will have nigh on a full house because fans can`t stay away, even if it is a shower of shit show and Brucie boy is still holding the fort.
If , after 14 years of Jabba treating fans with contempt and slowly but surely strangling the life out of the club doesn`t put you off, nothing will.

Seems like the 1892 pledge has slowed down after the initial buzz and excitement, would have hoped/thought it may have done a bit better than £86,965. That amount says to me that not many Geordie celebrities or rich fans have really pledged into it. Could be wrong but if they had have done I would expect the number to be larger than it is.

The Newcastle makeover, if we do get the takeover, although it’s feels again like The Newcastle fakeover.
So depending on what you believe, if this takeover is looking at July to actually happen then we ain’t getting any players signed right now.
The takeover means we will be looking at slightly higher priced and quality players, due to our new manager wanting that.

But once again it’s like ToonHog day, wake up same old shite.

Mund if Jacobs has lied before like what it is saying there then how can anyone trust him with anything else. when you listen to him talk there are more against the takeover than for but at the end of it he will always give you a bit of hope. don’t trust him simple as that.

DrGloon, good question! All I could see on their site was a ‘pounds pledged’ amount, so not clear if that’s in total to date or re-occuring. My guess would be total though as it’d be weird to highlight the re-occuring amount and not total amount.

Tbf sources close to takeover parties peddled the same leaked information for the last 18 months. Always confident and thus far always been very wrong. Simple fact is they have no idea if the takeover will go through in July, August, September, 2021 etc

It only goes through if they prove separation which is pretty hard

So if Jacob’s takes to twitter this week saying that there’s been a breakthrough and the takeover could happen next month, we need to completely ignore him. Likewise, if Caulkin says that nothing’s happening and this could go on till next season, we should say he isn’t in the loop and doesn’t really know what he’s talking about?
