Everton have opted against extending Josh King’s stay at Goodison Park. The forward joined on a short-term deal from Bournemouth on winter deadline day but managed only 11 substitute appearances for just 137 minutes of football.
The 29-year-old had been a long-term target of Newcastle extending back to the Rafa Benitez days. He was briefly linked last summer before Steve Bruce brought in his then Bournemouth teammate Callum Wilson, who had quite the impact and was named our Player of the Season.
Newcastle could theoretically be interested in King once again this summer. He’ll now become a free agent as of July 1st. With Newcastle unlikely to afford a permanent deal for a Premier League quality striker, a move for the Norwegian makes some sense.
While wage demands could prove a stumbling block, King’s situation becomes a very intriguing one. His poor spell as a Toffee could cool some of the interest of clubs who targeted him in January. He also is coming off a couple of subpar seasons with Bournemouth, including the first half of last season in the Championship.
Newcastle also may hold a bit of a wild card with our ex-Bournemouth contingent in Wilson, Matt Ritchie, and Ryan Fraser. While he is approaching that transitional age of 30, he’s only a month older than Callum Wilson, who has more than a few good years left in the tank.
King will likely play the field for the best offer and should have plenty of them after a season primarily played behind closed doors. He could be exactly what Newcastle are looking for with such a limited budget this summer.

Was really impressed how the Canadians dealt with the cold weather, 6 to 8 ft of snow piled up along the sides of roads and the roads were pristine and safe.
Many many years of experience I suppose.
Loads of coat hooks in the pubs downtown, proper preparation!
Some nice IPA as well, I was converted.

Youāre right, they are prepared and make a good job of it. Although, itās relatively easy to put infrastructure in place to deal with something that is a certainty.
Itās the uncertainties that catch us all out š

Comment #45King as a replacement for Carroll/Gayle would be a solid move 7
Willock likely to be moved on from Arsenal according to twitter as well surely we are in the mix for that, Ashley might plump for it as he is very likely here for the long run again

Comment #49We Canadians are amazingly good with snow. We build runways oot of it, make huge snowmen, toboggan on it, make igloos, snow forts and even ski on it. It’s amazing stuff. Snow days are great too.

It’s an old piece so they probably own more now. Worth a read though mate.
Spat some dodgy homebrew out when I read they had 20% of the London Stock Exchange, although I’m not really sure what that actually means š

We canāt āsellā him, his contract is up.
We either let him go for free or offer him another contract…..we could offer him another contract and then try to sell him, but he could simply sit on that contract ala colback / saviet / Lazaar.
Either way, not good

Gayles contract is up on 30th June. The club should never be offering him a 3 yr deal, it’s just really poor lazy business to do that isn’t it?
Plenty freebies/loans about who are younger and chomping at the bit to re-ignite their careers.
And why isn’t Gayle being proactive about what could be his last decent payday, it’s all very odd

Comment #58Arteta went with the Smith-Rowe lad and Martin Ćdegaard who was on loan when Willock came to the Toon.
Just read Martin Ćdegaard is off back to Real Madrid.
Does that mean Arteta is happy with Willock?, bit of a worry this like š

Please let that not be true that they are going to offer Gayle a 3 year contract, if thats true its an all time low even for Ashley mate.

I donāt know what we might / might not be offering gayle.
Currently, heās second choice (I think heās only worth third choice)
A 3 year deal would seem crazy, but since we donāt know the details of the deal then itās difficult to judge.
If weāre planning to bring someone in to be challenging Wilson, then keeping gayle for a year (not three) kinda makes sense.
Everything is speculation at this point….as always, itās as clear as mud š

Comment #61Any news from the club as to when they will pay up the ticket refunds due on last season ?
Ashley loves to hang onto the money doesn’t he.
Not wishing to sound doom laden but the way that covid and the new variants are hanging around is making it highly unlikely that crowds will be back in full at least at the start of the new season. Not withstanding that infections will normally increase in winter months.
We could see us stuck on 10,000 only per game with tickets depending on ballots. Very difficult then for any club to ask for season ticket money in advance when you aren’t guaranteed access to every game.
We could end up with pay as you go.

Comment #65Having watched Gayle against Sheffeld United I have never seen a more inept or disinterested or useless contribution to a football game.
Any suggestion that he’s to get a new contract for the sort of money per week that is more than a specialist nurse earns in a year is tantamount to theft.
Charming and Bruce need to go with him when he leaves.

A new 5 Star hotel within the old Fire Station on Pilgrim Street and another around Grey Street/Dean Street as urban regeneration continues.

Comment #77Do I genuinely like sub-zero temperatures over here? Absolutely. Even when it gets too cold I just remind myself how much I hate the summer heat. Plus thereās the mosquitoes (which are attracted to me like a magnet and my skin reacts badly to their bites too), the allergies and all the sweating.
I even take screen shots of my phone with the temperature on it in the summer to look at in the winter whenever I think itās too cold. Works a treat for me!
