Former Target Released By Everton Ticks A Few Boxes For NUFC This Summer

Everton have opted against extending Josh King’s stay at Goodison Park. The forward joined on a short-term deal from Bournemouth on winter deadline day but managed only 11 substitute appearances for just 137 minutes of football.

The 29-year-old had been a long-term target of Newcastle extending back to the Rafa Benitez days. He was briefly linked last summer before Steve Bruce brought in his then Bournemouth teammate Callum Wilson, who had quite the impact and was named our Player of the Season.

Newcastle could theoretically be interested in King once again this summer. He’ll now become a free agent as of July 1st. With Newcastle unlikely to afford a permanent deal for a Premier League quality striker, a move for the Norwegian makes some sense.

While wage demands could prove a stumbling block, King’s situation becomes a very intriguing one. His poor spell as a Toffee could cool some of the interest of clubs who targeted him in January. He also is coming off a couple of subpar seasons with Bournemouth, including the first half of last season in the Championship.

Newcastle also may hold a bit of a wild card with our ex-Bournemouth contingent in Wilson, Matt Ritchie, and Ryan Fraser. While he is approaching that transitional age of 30, he’s only a month older than Callum Wilson, who has more than a few good years left in the tank.

King will likely play the field for the best offer and should have plenty of them after a season primarily played behind closed doors. He could be exactly what Newcastle are looking for with such a limited budget this summer.

The Sun’s report may be accurate with the point that Ashley is confident the deal will go through. However Ashley’s confidence may be misguided.

Evenin’ fellows. Ron Knee posted a titbit the other day that gave me pause, has there been any Steely Dan on the night shift? I can’t remember so I thought I’d put this up. Look out for an achingly gorgeous Larry Carlton guitar break.

Atsu, Saivet, Carroll, Gayle, Muto moved on, Lejeune brought back in, Willock and King signed. Pretty simple and realistic transfer business for us under this owner, that I’d readily take.

Magic..was it who is a fan of Crystal Gayle? Well I’m a fan of Tom Waits so I guess it’s a win win with this one from the “One from the Heart” soundtrack.

Not getting carried away with that Sun article.

It quotes Ashley as saying get the money ready in a month. Is that not before the arbitration starts? So effectively saying the EPL are going to fold?

Well, he’s proven his fitness, and technically he’s as good as we’ve got, but yeah, maybe so NY. I think Bruce may have some reservations about his mobility and pace. I like him, especially on the left in a back 3. Problem though in a back 4 perhaps. Maybe too slow to effectively play a higher line with Lejeune as one of two centre backs in this league.

I’ve noticed that over the few years that the night shift has flourished, it has in fact gradually “shifted” from the 10-ish to very late night/early morning. Morphing out of that, there now seems to be a Twilight” shift, the transitional period between the Day shift and the Night shift, and (not being such a Nightfly) that’s the netherworld that I like to waft in and out of.

So, I wafted in and now I’ll waft back out again.
Gerry Rafferty is generally known for just a couple of hits, Night Owl, Baker Street and Stuck in the Middle. In actual fact he has a catalogue of LPs of marvellous tracks. Each as good as the other.

    Nicky,

I don’t discount anything you say…..I just don’t think Bruce “fancies” him.
Right or wrong, I think he’ll be away.

I know it’s normal to throw abuse and cabbages about, that’s not my thing.
I think we’ll loose Lejeune and one other (don’t know who)

Which is why I think we are strongly linked with the guy from Celtic.

Read it a couple of times, without the rose- tinted glasses and you’ll see that there’s nothing in it that hasn’t been said before in different articles.

Lesh…evening ! I was just about to bugger off, but I’ll ask you…have you ever heard Gordon Smith? A South Shields lad that John Peel described as “The best white blues guitarist/singer in the world”. He went down to London when he was in his teens, and Mike Vernon got wind of him when he was busking , heard him and signed him up. Here’s a track when he was still a teenager from his first album.
