Tight Summer Budget Could Cost Newcastle A Chance At Wonderkid

In November of 2019, it was revealed that Newcastle’s Head of Recruitment, Steve Nickson, was on a scouting mission in South America. When asked about his chief scout at the time, Steve Bruce made the following declaration:

“He’s in South America on business.”

Newcastle have been linked with a few South American prospects over the past couple of years. We added Peruvian Rodrigo Vilca just before last summer’s window slammed shut. Bruce has a decision to make on the best path forward for the 22-year-old.

Before Vilca was brought in for around £250k, Newcastle were linked with a couple of South American wonderkids in Facundo Pellistri and Alan Velasco. Pellistri ended up landing at Manchester United in a big-money move last October while Velasco (shown above) has remained with Argentina’s Independiente.

In January, Newcastle were again linked to the teenage winger. However, his reported release clause of £17m made him an unlikely target.

Football Insider recently reported that Brighton are trying to seal a move for the 19-year-old. They are apparently willing to shell out some serious cash for him.

According to the report, The Seagulls have had a £6m pound offer rejected for the young Argentine. They are apparently undeterred and readying an improved bid to test Independiente’s resolve in keeping hold of their prized winger.

There’s little chance Newcastle will enter the fray with a reported budget in the £10m range. Bruce cannot take a risk of spending anywhere near that amount for a teenager who will take time to develop.

It remains to be seen if Brighton are able to land the young dribbling maestro. However, the fact that they have reportedly bid £6m for him after a season playing behind closed doors could mean some clubs in the bottom half of the table have a better than anticipated summer budget.

Well that`s my Euro 20 bet sorted, stuck a tenner on England or Croatia to win it just to make it a tad more interesting.
Croatia being 33/1 isn`t bad back up after finishing runners up in the last world cup.

As far as the TO is concerned, i think there are still too many hurdles that don`t seem to be any closer to getting sorted than a year ago, so for me , il`e take it as a no go from now on, i won`t fall a far as anyone who is certain it is going to happen if, or more likely when it all goes tits up.

Right that`s me off oot to sit in the sun again with yet more alcoholic beverages at my disposal, aye, this furlough carry on is certainly right up my street.
    Enjoy your day fellow bloggers.
    Cheers

No point in buying him with Bruce. In 23 years you can name the young players He’s developed and improved on two fingers.

Jacobs has made himself look embarrassing with his reveal 🙄

If anything he has cemented himself as a beIN shill.

I won’t be linking as I get accused of promoting him 😉

    Just a fan,
Williamson was a paragon of mediocrity. Must have been a shocking season when he won. At his best he was ok. Similar to Clark, but not as good. What year did he win?

To highlight the influx of foreign players coming into the PL over the last 20 years compared to pre 2000 as far as Nufc are concerned, from 1976 to 2000,
23 of the 25 Player of the Season awards went to an Englishman, the other 2 were Irish and a Scot respectfully.
Since 2001 only 6 Englishmen have won it.

    English 6
    Irish 5
    Dutch 2
    French 1
    Italian 1
    Peruvian 1
    Argentinian 1
    Slovak 1
    Spanish 1
    Columbian 1
    Senegalese 1

Somebody mentioned that it is scorers who win games. Name me one team who has won the league in last 10 years with a poor defence.

How many times does a good manager join a club and defence is first priority?

second question, how many 4-3 games have we lost? When we used to play footie. but, also draw a comparison with Man City, we scored 3 and got beat. They then went into ECL and let one in, but could not score…..

He’s said that he’s been informed the Saudis have failed in their bid for rights despite them out bidding competitors mainly due to the years of stealing them

Nothing to do with NUFC mate just general opinion of Saudis in the world of football

I think essentially his news was that UEFA rejected a bids right from Saudi despite it being the highest bid. Not wanting to work with them due to piracy concerns. Said this won’t affect Newcastle takeover if arbitration proves PIF and the state are separate. But if arbitration doesn’t go our way, the league could reject the deal on piracy grounds using UEFA as an example; as they also rejected the state for the same reasoning.

I only looked briefly admittedly so may not be 100% accurate but that’s the surface of what i saw.

Martin Odegaard Has been let go by Arsenal, was with Real Madrid so he must have some ability if Real had him at there club.
Would it be a good deal as he’s free agent to take a punt in signing him.

Never bet on England in any game. English supporters skew the odds. You will make money betting against England in the long term. Professional gambler stated that.

The head of Bein Sports and Qatari football owner joins the Uefa board and then a massive Saudi offer for rights are essentially ignored.

Does anyone think Nasser Al-Khelaifi was impartial in all this?

WLToon, ref overseas players. Good research but… I would say that Irish (even Eire) players are “british” home grown etc. still 50% foreign, but think of the players. Not bad, were they?

As an aside, what has happened to great Scottish players?
