Newcastle Expected To Open Talks For Free Agent In The Coming Weeks – Report

When it was announced a few days ago that Josh King would not be offered a new deal by Everton, the forward became an interesting proposition for Newcastle United. He’s been a reported target for years and fits our profile this summer as he’ll be a free agent next month.

The Northern Echo is reporting that the Norwegian has jumped to the top of our wishlist with talks expected to happen within the next few weeks. NUFC head of recruitment Steve Nickson has close ties with King’s representatives, the ROGON agency, who also represents Joelinton. The group has had a number of targets linked to Newcastle over the years.

The 29-year-old will have plenty of offers despite coming off a subpar year with Bournemouth in the Championship and then with Everton for the second half of this season. He managed just 11 substitute appearances during his brief spell at Goodison Park.

Newcastle could call on our contingent of former-Cherries to persuade King to come to Tyneside. It may prove to be an enticing proposition to link up with Matt Ritchie, Ryan Fraser, and Callum Wilson once again.

Steve Bruce will be looking to add another forward and King definitely fits the profile. He’s got bags of Premier League experience, is versatile, and most importantly won’t cost a fee. Though he’ll probably end up one of our top wage earners with so many other clubs likely vying for his signature.

The report by Scott Wilson backs earlier claims that Newcastle will soon be announcing a new three-year deal for Dwight Gayle. However, suitable offers for the 31-year-old will be entertained in the hopes of raising the summer budget.

Andy Carroll’s second stint at his hometown club will also come to an end this month. Carroll managed just one goal, albeit a terrific one against Leicester, over the past two seasons. Despite avoiding the major injuries that have plagued his career, he was handed just 580 minutes of football this past season.

Carroll’s departure will open up a place for King, who would suit our counter-attacking system beautifully. This signing seems like a really good possibility and a solution to some glaring recruitment issues this summer.

How about Gayle and Carrol as a swap deal for Matheus Pereira, they might go for that.

All these free agents being talked about and linked sure is making me excited for next season….

If we start next season with Ashley, Bruce and a few free signings as squad players, then it’s going to be very disappointing.

We’ll talk to him “in the coming weeks”!? Yeah why not a couple of months might as well give more teams the chance to talk to him!

Why wait!? If we want him go and talk to him now ffs. Same with Ajer we take forever do buy players and other teams swoop in.

If he gives Gayle a three year deal then “the consortium” aren’t even in the building never mind at the table. That would be pure neglect.

I reckon they exited stage left ages ago, we might have looked like a good investment but i doubt that they are that enamoured with us that they’ll hang about waiting for the EPL to deign to acknowledge them.

If both sides were confident that the deal will go through as we’re led to believe, then player decisions and transfers don’t make much sense. If they happen that is. Ashley I’m sure could work it so that he gets reimbursed for any transfer deals he does by the consortium, so no need for cheap deals and free agents. The consortium would surely not want any rash decisions made on contracts and players brought in, so that they don’t inherit things they don’t want. Gayle new contract would make no sense, even if it was to sell as shouldn’t need money for reasons above. ‘Run the club as usual’ doesn’t really make sense if both sides are confident of it being passed. Any contracts or transfers that look like Ashley, Charnley and Bruce decisions should make even the most positive on the takeover have some worries and concerns. Either both sides aren’t that confident or a decision is much further away than we think and be well into next season.

I’m not sure where this idea that we’d give a player a contract just to be able to sell him comes from. A player is not going to sign a new deal knowing he’s going to be sold when he could get much better wages as a free agent. The only instances I could think of that happening is if it was a player really loyal to a club and put the clubs finances before his own.

    Mund,
Maybe it’s just a daft rumour about Gayle being given a new deal because why on earth would the consortium want to be saddled with his wages for three years.

There’s so little communication from the club we have to do a bit of detective work to figure out the most basic of things

It’s as if they’ve got something to hide isn’t it
