Ashley To Sanction Early Business With Highly Regarded Gunner On The Agenda – Report

Before this season even ended, reports claimed Newcastle were hoping to have some transfers completed early in the summer window. The two names that came up were Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer and Wigan forward Kyle Joseph.

Newcastle had been the clear favorites to sign the duo, but other clubs have since come into the fray. Ajer’s representatives have shopped their client around Europe and even met with Bayer Leverkusen a few weekends ago.

The 23-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract and confirmed recently that he expects to leave Celtic this summer. Newcastle were hoping to have the Norwegian in by the start of pre-season for a bargain fee of £6-8m.

As for Joseph, the young striker would be one for the future. With Newcastle releasing Yannick Toure last week, a forward prospect is sorely needed at the Academy. The 19-year-old is out of contract at the end of the month but has been offered a new deal by Wigan.

Newcastle were reportedly willing to pay a little bit extra by way of a compensation fee for Joseph. However, last week it was revealed that Swansea were in talks for the striker and may now be the favorites to land him.

The Chronicle is reporting that Mike Ashley has backed Bruce’s request for early signings. The head coach is hoping for one or two additions before the squad returns for pre-season in early July. It could be that Ajer and Joseph were the two players Bruce had hoped to bring in early with those deals now in jeopardy.

There’s been no shortage of other targets linked to Newcastle with Arsenal defender William Saliba and Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury being the latest. The Chronicle also reports that Saliba is under serious consideration as a loan target.

Lee Ryder claims Newcastle have been tracking Saliba’s progress over the past 18 months including his loan spell at Nice during the second half of last season.

The 20-year-old was an Unai Emery signing in 2019 from Saint-Etienne. He remained with the French club for a season-long loan. When he came to Arsenal last summer it was with Mikel Arteta at the helm. The young defender only featured for the U23s before going to Nice on loan in January.

With David Luiz’s contract expiring at the end of the month, that could clear a path for Saliba into the Arsenal first team. However, if Arteta feels he isn’t quite ready, it seems Newcastle could make a loan offer for the Frenchman.

Did you really expect what’s probably the most right wing government the country’s had to criticise the taking the knee critics?

No surprise it didn’t – they wouldn’t want to lose votes.

I’m very confident it will go our way and we will get justice for not only this last year which has been just as hard as the last 13 years of Ashley IMO

Mentally it’s been on another level all together, it’s been very hard and I imagine I can speak for the majority of the fanbase in saying that.

I believe in karma and I believe we will finally have things go our way with what could be the greatest era of the clubs history. Tbh any era without Ashley will be considered great and to have those feelings back of having hope and belief in the football club, seeing it grow back into the club we once were and having pride and respect back instead of being laughed at by 90% of other fanbases.

    lesh,
I don’t think Simon is saying he has a contact, I might have read it wrong but it’s that same Chelsea fan that said he’d seen documents at work
(a good while ago) that was announcing a takeover that week.

I think you’re right about the arbitration hearing being set for July.

Early June’s (11th I think) when the Competition hearing judge told the EPL to disclose all documents.

On the takeover stuff. I thought that both sides had a deadline of 11th June to get all their arguments(paperwork) into CAT for them to decide if they (CAT) have legal jurisdiction to act against PL in their case, so nothing to hear there for a little while and that Arbitration was due “sometime in July”.

If my memory is correct of course. If it is, a while to wait yet before we hear anything, unless of course someone has heard something else that is factual as opposed to click bait, theories and hopes! 🙂

You’re right in that Simon referred to a person he’d been in conversation with on Twitter, about something unrelated to the proposed takeover.

Apologies to Simon if I painted the wrong picture.

June 11th was the date the PL got at extension to prepare there case. They need to respond by this Friday then I believe of what I am told we should hear something around July 23 ish

Just waiting on the league to prepare there case, whatever that means? Not to forget they are supposed to be extremely confident 🙄 Then the next stage is arbitration itself, finally!

Mund. I think cleveleys bob is correct in that his Friday is just the date the EPL have to get their evidence in for the jurisdiction challenge. I don’t know how long that will take to be decided or whether the loser can appeal but if the EPL lose I believe they have another 28 days to file their evidence against the competition case. Normal disclaimers apply:)

They haven’t got the extension to prepare their case, it’s an extension to respond to the charge. The EPL will attempt to delay the Competition Hearing as much as possible as they want Arbitration to happen first as they stand a greater chance of winning that.
