Late yesterday, there were multiple reports linking Rafa Benitez to the open Everton job. That, of course, would be a shocking appointment considering Benitez’s close ties to Liverpool, where he managed from 2004 to 2010.
There has never been a manager to take the reins of both clubs. Benitez continues to live on Merseyside and has openly admitted his desire to return to the Premier League. However, Everton seems like the one Premier League club that Rafa would rule out managing.
The claim is that Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has reached out to Benitez, and other available managers, to gauge his interest in the position. Moshiri was recently forced into a managerial search when Carlo Ancelotti abruptly left to return to Real Madrid.
His top targets were ex-Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo and West Ham manager David Moyes. Everton moved on from Espirito Santo, who was also in talks with Crystal Palace before those broke down earlier this week.
David Moyes has a storied history at Goodison Park and has worked wonders with West Ham. However, Moshiri will only speak to Moyes if granted permission by the West Ham board. So Benitez is now part of a second tier of candidates that includes Lille’s Christoph Galtier and Brighton’s Graham Potter.
Sport Witness has cited a report from Turkish outlet Fotospor that Everton have made an offer to Galatasaray manager Fatih Terim, who has also managed the Turkish National team on three separate occasions.
As far as Benitez agreeing to join Everton, I’ll believe it when I see it. The logistics would be perfect for the Spaniard but the emotional turmoil seems too great. The problem that Rafa could face is the jobs are beginning to dry up with Wolves recently appointing Bruno Lage as their next manager.

The bid if made mate will come from a separate company made up for that exact purpose, can’t remember the name but they already have one set up, the one that got knocked back for the Champions league rights.

Comment #6Right then let’s spruce wor Brucie up before he sends in his application. Now, errm we don’t want to exaggerate too much but how about something like: “Steve Bruce, man of action, highly experienced, winner of 7 LMA Manager of the Year awards, Hero of the Somme, Battle of Britain, and D-Day! Don’t pass up this chance to get the World’s Greatest Living Football Manager (WGLFM). Please reply immediately. Postage required.

Comment #8A shell company is an excellent way for PIF to move forward. Base the company in the Honduras and use some fake ID to set it up. Bring in a couple of hard line phones and a teletype and fax machine. Use fake accents and deny knowing anything about PIF. Should work.

Comment #14I hear we’re very interested in re-signing Gabby Obertan now that he’s been released by his latest club. He would have to do some lawn and garden work for Mikey on the side (minimum wage, no benefits) but it looks very promising.

Comment #21Is there any truth to the rumour that PIF are just going to buy England instead of NUFC? It seems more convenient to me. Hire Boris as your head of PR. Bring in a Saudi as head man. Get things done properly this time.

Bottle of white shite (white lighting) or a bottle of Pulse, can’t go wrong for a squid, always accompanied by a big bottle of Orange 20/20. Also partial for a bottle of Bellabrusco ah the days 😎

Comment #23Would Fatih be mad enough to try working for Mikey? Possibly he’s had a mental breakdown recently and we’re getting him at his most vulnerable. Isn’t that how Mikey bought the club? Wait for people to get ill and then weasel in?

Comment #24Would PIF accept Mikey staying on as Club Fool if they do buy the club? For the right wage he would be happy to dance around at all club functions. Guest appearances by Lee Chumpley.

Comment #30Advice for the Premier League ..Skip Ashley’s litigation and personal claim re Competition laws.. and pass the takeover as there is not one unfit and not proper person involved, by the prem’s criteria, they are all honourable men, and like I said 2 weeks back before I received a few barbs from just 2 here telling me i was wrong about the piracy, read and listen, but most of all read with a balanced mindset and without prejudice.
They are a long way down the road of resolving any piracy issues remaining.
In turn that will hopefully negate the arbitration..equates to no dirty washing for the prem in the public domain.
If litigation and arbitration go ahead then can the prem have any say on the separation of PIF and Saudi Royal Family ?
I mean the Premier league and their Brains trust are not exactly invited members of Mensa..so how can they deduce and just surmise that KSA and PIF are one and the same and in turn have jurisdiction and the say so on the PIF financial whizz kids and investors who do a job independently, financially, from the Royal Family.
Get it done Premier League ..Why bother with Competition case ? drop it now by passing the takeover and it will automatically stop the arbitration.
Everyones a winner.
Its we Supporters that suffer the most.

Comment #32Should also pose the question, are the independent arbitrators fully independent ?
The chairman of the 3 individuals that make up the panel has took the prems shilling may times past in working for them ..(millions in Legal costs and wage to the Chair of said arbitration panel)
Can he be truly independent and without natural bias.
