Last week, there was an update on Jacob Murphy’s contract situation with Newcastle. The Mail’s Craig Hope had tweeted that Murphy was expected to sign a new long-term deal after successful talks.
The 26-year-old old is entering the final year of his contract after resurrecting his career at the club he’s supported since he was a young lad. Jacob forced his way into the reckoning down the stretch starting Newcastle’s final nine games at right wing-back.
There are plenty of clubs hovering around Murphy with just the year remaining on his current deal. Leeds, Southampton, Watford, Rangers, Galatasaray, and Bayer Leverkusen have all been credited with an interest in Jacob, whose fee has been cited at just £3m.
Sky Sports has provided an update on Murphy’s contract talks with Newcastle. According to the report, an agreement hasn’t yet been reached with further talks expected soon. They have also added two more clubs monitoring Murphy’s situation in Porto and Burnley.
However, Newcastle are not looking to sell Murphy, who was at the training ground last week getting an early start on his pre-season preparation. So he definitely looks motivated to put himself in the best possible position when pre-season starts.
This further round of talks could just be to iron out a few details with the basis of a deal already in place. Hopefully, everything is in line for Murphy to sign a new deal in the near future.
He’s belatedly fulfilling his £10m transfer fee from when he joined from Norwich four years ago. His rapid rise this past season could be a fortuitous sign for this upcoming campaign. Jacob has improved immensely over the past couple of years and could be primed for a massive season.
Steve Bruce has been very impressed with Jacob since taking a long look at him last summer. He’s on record that keeping him at Newcastle has become a priority. He stated the following towards the backend of last season:
“I sincerely hope that we tie Jacob down. He’s played a big part in the season. I’ve been very, very pleased with him.”

Comment #1We need a ball playing cm for England, even Ward-Prouse would have been better than Rice and Phillips

Comment #4I’ve never been bothered about England for years, they’re like Newcastle always let me down. Just thought they might do well, could they play worse than the last game. Hopefully not.

Comment #5I’d love to share that dream with you lol
England are famous for picking the Cartel players with a few from the lesser teams just to pretend it’s not bent until we get an England manager who picks a squad on form we’re going to have the same old disappointment I’m afraid

Comment #8I love a good conspiracy theory.
How about the FA and England manager have to pick predominantly big six players as playing for England increases their value and in turn helps them control the market further.
If they are young lads from a big 6 team academy even better as they’d have cost almost nowt but will reap massive benefits when sold on to unsuspecting teams particularly overseas.
The balance sheets look good and the FA get a few backhanders.
Or (and more likely) there are more big six players in the England team because those teams have the best players!! 😆

Comment #9Darnik, 🙂 how true, but I agree, same old story just pick the same old faces doesn’t matter if they are injured, take them along, because they’re good to have around the place, you couldn’t make it up 🙄

Comment #13Bob in theory you are correct but as carltoon pointed out there has been numerous occasions when the big 6 players have been taken whilst injured, as I said earlier Ward-prouse should have been given a chance

Comment #27Serious discussion point :
We don’t pick or take “in form” players for England because we mostly have crap managers who couldn’t handle trying to coach new players into their “methods”.
So we largely stick to the same faces that the manager feels comfortable with and “will put in a shift” for him.
When we’ve had good managers in the past, like SBR and Terry Venables, they’ve picked the best players and our team looked good under them, just a bit unlucky not to win anything.
Under recent managers, we’ve not really looked good enough to win something, just make up the numbers. At Italia 90 and Euro 96, I felt we could win it, I’ve not really felt that about England since. I think it’s more down to the lack of decent coaching rather than lack of players.
There you go get your teeth into that. 😉

Comment #33I couldn’t agree more, we haven’t had a centre mid to grab a game by the scruff of the neck since Gazza our centre backs get worse by the year, and don’t even mention goal keeper’s but most of all we have the likes of Southgate yes Southgate in the managerial role there’s little wonder we haven’t done anything for years

Comment #40I think (possibly) Wilson had a chance this time, but his injury came at the wrong time and he still wasn’t fully fit at end of season. If he’d been looked after by our idiot medical/coaching staff, then he’d definitely have been in contention. He’s much better than Calvert-Lewin.
