Unfortunately, Newcastle’s plans for today’s two friendlies have been affected by Karl Darlow’s positive Covid test. Newcastle were already without Martin Dubravka, who has a broken metatarsal.
For today’s matches as well as Friday’s at Doncaster, Steve Bruce will be without Darlow as well as Freddie Woodman and Mark Gillespie, who will all be self-isolating for the next ten days. This is hardly an ideal situation at the start of an important pre-season for this club.
The lads and staff will soldier on and hopefully, Darlow’s symptoms aren’t too severe and he recovers quickly. Bruce will have to rely on some youngsters to man the net for the next week and a half.
Newcastle have revamped the plans for today’s friendlies at York City and Harrogate Town. Rather than splitting the squad between the two matches, the senior side will face York City while the U23s will take on Harrogate Town.
Newcastle’s goalkeeping coach Simon Smith has taken to Twitter and revealed which goalkeepers will be with the senior squad at York this afternoon.
A great opportunity for NUFC young goalkeeper’s tomorrow v York City !
Dan Langley and Max Thompson. Never known a week like it !!
Will Brown and Jake Turner at Harrogate ! Good luck to all ???— simon smith (@simonsmithgk) July 17, 2021
As expected, Dan Langley will be in goal at York City. He’s been with the first team in training camp and served as Newcastle’s third-choice keeper during Dubravka’s absence last term. Max Thompson will be buzzing to be with the first team at just 16-years-old.
This friendly will be streamed live for free on NUFC TV. It’ll be great to see the lads back in action especially the ones who missed the backed of last season with injuries. Jamaal Lascelles, Ryan Fraser, and Isaac Hayden should all be involved today.

Comment #4Being having a long hard deep think about the number 4 conundrum that appears on the new home kit. I mean, it beats angsting about the takeover, Ashley, Bruce and no new players. Don’t think we’ll see the 4 once the buttons are undone and the collar opened up. No one will wear the shirt fully buttoned up. Perhaps the marketing department need to change the photos. Oh forgot, we haven’t got one of those departments.

Here’s an extract from a Chronic piece about Steve Harper and the Academy:
‘…..Throw in the fact that Lewis Cass and Elias Sorensen are still at the club and could yet breakthrough, ….’
What happened to all the potential of SORENSEN? Could he be another Armstrong?

Look at the shirt photos. When the shirt sponsor logo is added it creates a number 4 with the white line up to the collar. But that line will be broken when unbuttoned. Really important detail this!

Just had a look mate, like i said to might wyn, it doesn`t look good at all. I don`t like the new home top anyway, even worse with the daft number 4.
Unbuttoning the collar might work but….

West Ham at home on opening weekend will be first time our fans have been together en masse since the first lockdown in March 20. We have a lot to vent off about. Takeover, ESL fiasco, Bruce, lack of player investment etc. If it’s a poor game and we don’t turn up it will turn toxic very quickly, and who could blame us. We are being subjected to mental torture. Most of us are just about clinging on to this club by our finger nails, but it won’t take much for us to let go. And then what.

Bruce has been lucky that fans weren`t allowed in or he would of jumped ship, i`m sure of it, i doubt he could put up with the amount of abuse that would be thrown at him if things go tits up.
You and the rest of the ST holders have every right to take Bruce and Ashley to the cleaners mate, and i think most are expecting just that.
Time will tell very soon how things will transpire on and off the field, a poor start, then woe betide Bruceless and co.
Maybe Jones will be spared the abuse, he at least seems to have a clue at what he is doing.

Correct, the club will always be a part of us, but the level of emotional and financial investment we make might tail off. I am sick of leaving a football match feeling miserable and empty inside. That’s what it’s been like for those attending SJP. Just gets harder to justify.

I had to give my ST up in 2009, i got made redundant. Even though i can afford a ST now i won`t give the leech a penny.
I would love to go back, i miss match days so much, but for me, i would be encouraging Ashley to treat me with contempt if a bought a ticket. That`s the way i look at it now, all the lads i used to go to the matches with have all flung their tickets for the same reason.
I hope we get new owners very soon, whether it be the PIF or whoever, fans like you will deserve to be at the front of the queue for STs for having to put up with all the shite that has been on display over the years.
I will just have to take pot luck for cup matches, that is the forfeit i have to deal with for biting my nose off to spite my face.

Comment #31Hopefully fans back for West Ham will have a positive effect on the players, upping their game and responding to the crowd. If the set up by Bruce is wrong and the players don’t perform from the get go, like onmeedson said, it could turn toxic quite quickly as fans have a lot to be frustrated about.

Off for a week, so won’t hear much from me. On #NUFCTakeover front, club sources suggesting they are expecting to hear something significant on the CAT case this week. And Joe Willock deal confidence remains high. As ever with #NUFC though, we watch & wait.

We might see him today in one of the games, who knows otherwise.
I’m a tad surprised that the 1st team emphasis is on the York game given that Harrogate are in the higher league.
