Langley, Lascelles, Hayden, And Watts Start At York City In First Pre-Season Friendly

Here is who Steve Bruce has named in his starting eleven for our first pre-season friendly at York City. All four Magpies who missed the backend of last season with injuries are in the lineup in Wilson, Lascelles, Fraser, and Hayden.

This is a strong team to start this match. Though it doesn’t look like the 5-3-2 which Bruce deployed for the final nine matches last season. Unless Ryan Fraser is going to play centrally it could be a 5-2-3.

Kelland Watts looks to be on the left-side of the back three ahead of Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett. There are some notable absentees with Javier Manquillo, Florian Lejeune, and Jonjo Shelvey not on the bench.

Here is the side former Magpie Steve Watson has selected for the hosts. Former NUFC academy product Mackenzie Heaney starts for York City.

Newcastle have written a piece on this afternoon’s starting goalkeeper Dan Langley at nufc.co.uk. This match will also be streamed live at NUFC TV and the club’s official YouTube channel.

Aye true Simon I’m sure Genj is on a buzz seeing young Watts play.

IMO I think he should be in and around the squad as he is a very calm and composed defender, give him some minutes and let him develop with the first team.

just found out York City plays in the varanama division which is the 6th tier division.

the contest is closer than it should be.

either they are good, or we are shi* w/o willock & st max.

Well….Gayle and Hendricks still doing nothing for me…nor big Joe before heading off…Frasier and Ritchie seem to be working a bit better together although Ritchie seems not to be at his sharpest….Watts looks confident. The rest seem to be in pretty normal preseason form…at least from only one halfs perspective.

Seriously though it’s no cup tie!

They could have scored but a good save from Langley and their GK is having a good game.

    Watts is looking good.

Aye I made the point earlier that we are playing our stronger side against the lower ranked team, a tad puzzled over that decision.

Still I suppose TFG knows what he is doing.

And strange4 though it sounds, Hendrick has been one of our better players so far.

Good to see Watts getting a chance alright. Where’s Anderson though? It would surely be more progressive to give him game time rather than the likes of Fraser and Hendrick
