With a move for Joe Willock likely stalled until later in the window, Newcastle have reportedly shifted focus to Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher the The Northern Echo has revealed.
Newcastle held talks over the 21-year-old last summer but he ended up at on a season-long loan at West Brom. Gallagher made 32 appearances at The Hawthorns in his first taste of Premier League football.
While the Baggies were relegated, the attacking midfielder proved one of their better players. He only turned 21 earlier this year so could be primed for an even better campaign this time around.
Gallagher returned to Stamford Bridge this summer with aspirations of cracking the Chelsea midfield. However, there are just too many Blues above him in the pecking order. Over the weekend, The Sun reported that he is destined for another loan though still wants to battle for a place at Chelsea.
Like last summer, Newcastle face stiff competition for the up-and-coming Englishman. Crystal Palace, and new manager Patrick Vieira, want Gallagher at Selhurst Park. They are even willing to discuss a permanent move.
However, Chelsea do not want to sell Gallagher at this early stage of his career. He is tied down until 2025 having signed an extension last September.
It’s shaping up to be a two-way battle with The Eagles for Gallagher. Newcastle have held discussions over a loan move and The Northern Echo claim Bruce is confident a deal can be made. But we’ve heard that a little too often lately.

Comment #2Would be a good signing as would his doppelgänger Todd Cantwell of Norwich.

Comment #3Lesh, just a quick response, the reality that really hurts you is the 80 seat, min 10year in power majority. Tough. 🙂
And for the record, I think this gvmt are currently a shambles. 🙁
My initial point was that yesterday several anti gvmt digs were put up here throughout the day without objection, or moderation until Jane brought it up quite late on. Who started it was irrelevant, you were never going to miss a chance to join in.
Opposing views would have been moderated, none yesterday were, bias in the filter process obvious!

Comment #4Well you always have a little pop when I post something not positive and I mentioned Bruce using covid as an excuse. You mentioned covid and the squad so seemed like a good guess that you were replying towards me.
To quote you from yesterday though ‘It’s a blog lad get used to it’. If you don’t want ‘long winded’ replies from me, then don’t feel the need to jump on my posts when they aren’t blindly positive about everything.

Comment #6If there’s another club interested, he ain’t coming here. More press bs.
MA isn’t spending a penny and Willock is only target that he’s hoping to get on loan with money next year (not his).
Simple lesson to all fans, lower your expectations even further.
Unless the TO happens, don’t look for incomings. And as already mentioned timing is likely to exclude this window, so January earliest for new owners. Sorry, but reality sucks 🙁

In your opinion It never looked good last year and you were confident Bruce would foot it all up but then it was proven you were wrong.
Quite a lot of the times to be fair

No hope or future for this club and never has been while Ashley still has the keys

Comment #10Bruce did mess it all up, it took another assistant coming in to help him, which the majority of the blog think was the reason for our turnaround. Combine that with Willock who wasn’t even necessarily his first choice, coming in and performing nothing short of a miracle and that’s why we ended where we did. Bruce absolutely messed everything up until then. If you think last year looked good and Bruce was our saviour in the end then that’s fair enough but it’s an opinion just like mine is that he wasn’t and last year is nothing to be happy about.

Comment #14Mund – the problem is that there is no hope left, we have a weaker squad without Willock and we’ve signed nobody and been made well aware that we have no money and can expect loan signings only – we’ve gone from being a powerhouse to a shithouse

Comment #17Looks like it’s gonna be a Relegation struggle again this season.
Not a glimmer of hope of Ashley putting his hand in his pocket, sorry 10 mil budget jeez.
Think we should all get to the Docs for medication now to ease the pain of watching our team crawl over the line.
Playing 5 at the back against a no league side says it all, the guy has one plan and nobody even can pinpoint exactly what that is.
Doubt i can handle another season of that drivel we’ve been watching over that last so many years, time for to find a new hobby i think

Comment #18Politics – creeps into discussions because it affects our club, our tea, our fans. Not least of all Government intreaction with the dodgies at the EPL. Some politicians speak on our behalf.
Bruce, Ashley and Charnley would less air time if the club was sold and performing to its potential.
Football – Conor Gallagher was born in Epsom, 10 miles from Crystal Palace. That might have some bearing on his thinking. He’s very welcome here with Willock not instead of him Both would be great.

Right back at you, spot on.
It is what it is until Ashley is gone.
Get Willock signed and I’ll feel better.
There is a chance that the consortium can make a dent before the window closes but that’s a tall ask I’d imagine.

Comment #23Loch, I agree with your 1st paragraph, but yesterday’s stuff had nowt to do with football, our team, TO or anything remotely related. It was just gvmt bashing for the hell of it. I agree with their level of incompetence being currently exposed, just not on here, we’ve enough sh*** to worry about 😉

Comment #24It shows how low we’ve sunk, when I never for a second considered watching the game being streamed yesterday, given the cricket, F1 and final round of Open on Telly, football didn’t get a look in.
That was never the case in the past, I would try anything to get to watch us even pre season stuff, like the walloping we got at Darlington a few years back. I watched the games from Spain on dodgy feeds when Rafa was here, nothing took priority over NUFC matches, now meh! – very sad 🙁

Comment #25There is no chance Ashley will be parting with any hard cash for transfers until this transfer saga is resolved or at least until he has a strong idea which way it’s heading.
This transfer window we have been linked to dozens of players which serves only to annoy and frustrate as we will only be looking at loan options.

Media bias? A former US pres’d be proud of you.
Must say, I never thought you’d stoop so low as to lobby for a poster to be moderated. The Brownshirts’ll be promoting you soon. 😉
