Newcastle Issue Brief Statement On Postponement Of Arbitration Until 2022

Newcastle United have confirmed that their pending arbitration case against The Premier League has been postponed until early 2022 after a meeting on Monday.

Here is the full statement from the club:

The parties attended a hearing today in the case between Newcastle United and the Premier League.

The main hearing of the arbitration has regrettably now been adjourned until early 2022 due to issues with the disclosure of evidence.

The parties will be making no further comment at this time.

Newcastle’s arbitration case against the Premier League was supposed to get underway this month. The timeframe of the proceedings could have lasted well into the season. Now this club will remain in limbo almost indefinitely as no firm date for the arbitration has been set.

Mike Ashley has been reluctant to fund Steve Bruce’s summer business with a reported budget of just £10m as he hopes to get the Saudi-backed takeover resurrected. We are starting to fall well behind the rest of the pack in our preparations for the coming campaign.

This is another in an endless string of delays and shenanigans that are threatening this club’s ability to compete in the league. Now that a final decision on this takeover is not likely to happen until near the end of this season, Mike Ashley has to open up his wallet and back this club.

    So this Keith bloke has urged everyone to remain calm, which basically the majority of us have done while this whole mind numbing saga has carried on. If you look closely over the last year, despite what Sean Casey, Burnsie and his ilk have claimed to know, when something important has happened we’ve heard from the club or Staveley. New dawn this, left the building that, CAT arb CAT arb CAT arb……. all adding up to a massive let down when you get news like this. I wish the foot we could just let it be and let events unfold as they will anyway without Peter D 300 followers or Sean “lunch with Griezzman” Casey telling us three days before it doesn’t happen that it will. I’m up to footin here with it all.

    And for those thinking Ashley just wants compensation please read the legal letter outlining the resolution Ashley is looking for from the CAT case. He wants both the takeover AND compensation for costs and losses incurred from not being able to sell the club. It is false to just state he wants compensation.

    When i first heard the news today i thought `that`s that then, another 6 months delay, same old chestnut`. No way will the Saudi`s hang about.
    After reading some of the posters opinions i think there could well be something bubbling in the background, and the one pointer for me is Ashley`s seemingly calm approach and statement to such a knock back.
    Maybe there is still legs in this after all.

    Anyway, off to kip now. Been interesting tonight. I hope you all sleep well, i doubt i will, too clammy for me.

    Jail @ 327, I do. It’s in the public domain for all to read. The CAT action brought against the PL by St James Holdings outlines the objectives of the CAT case against the PL. It is clear that a takeover is one objective as well as compensation for losses. I think Ashley is confident in the CAT case which is why he hasn’t kicked up a stink regarding delay of arbitration, he wants it to run first as PL won’t give transparency in the arbitration case. I also think the PL know CAT has them backed into a corner.

    I think some kind of protest is being organized, before the West ham game. So as long as it’s peaceful, I’ll be there, I’m not going to give up on my club. Not interested what anyone else says, they had to listen when the corrupt six tried to have a break away league, all we want is answers, this is our club, there is a buyer out there and Ashley wants to sell, we just want to know the reasons. Surely waiting all this time, and not trying to come to some sort of agreement, I’m hoping the media ramp it up, I just can’t give up, let’s hope other fans feel like i do, and get behind this protest.

    I’m broadly with you @179.

    The question I’m struggling with is that:

    If parties agree to formal arbitration then they must accept some rules to ensure that each acts in such spirit to achieve an agreement;

    Yet now we hear that some disclosure issue, or one of the parties, has hindered the start of the hearing;

    Then surely if one of the parties has acted in bad faith, the hearing should proceed regardless of any disadvantage the ‘offending’ party may have?

    However, it seems that arbitration ain’t like wot we expected!

    This stinks to the high heavens.

    Very bad news. This means we now have to endure another six months of speculation about something most of us don’t know anything about. It’s like watching two grannies battering each other with handbags because they disagree on what colours the tea cosies are in heaven.

    Posting this here before bed. I’m totally pessimistic about this takeover (as I have been since the very start) but this one is for all of you out there who keep believing.

    Maybe you’re deluded? Maybe you need something positive to cling to in your life? Maybe you just want it to happen so badly that you absolutely can’t accept anything other than it actually happening as your reality? Whatever it is, enjoy 🙂

    saudi aint gonna wait another year. takeover is dead in the water. as i said before, takeover had to be done within this month or it’s gone.

    this season might be the one that has us relegated. all signs pointing that way.

    Keep tight ahold folks, nothing to get upset or angry about.

    If there’s a protest we’ll be there as always.

    Not going to get worked up as its more of the same, it’s frustrating but nothing we haven’t put up with before.

    What I could really do without these next few days is people passing their opinion on what this latest set back means, as FACT. The only people who know what’s going on are the lawyers, Ashley and Stavely. I really hope we just let them get on with it without everyman and his dog telling us what’s happening.

    This whole thing has become farcical. Amanda’s rallying cry from last week feels slightly hollow now.

    It’s time to move on. I maintain that Amanda should either find another buyer for the club or the Reubens buy us with an agreement with the PIF to sell a stake at an agreed rate once all this nonsense is over.

    Either way, it’s time to move on. We’re a club devoid of anyone who cares for us having anything to do with the club right now. It’s like a tatty old home waiting for probate to clear.
