On Monday, Newcastle United announced that the main hearing of the arbitration case against the Premier League had been adjourned. Issues with the disclosure of evidence were cited as the reason.
The case was expected to start imminently but now has basically been indefinitely postponed. An estimate of ‘early 2022’ for the case’s resumption was provided as the potential timeframe.
Immediately after the announcement, Mehrdad Ghodoussi suggested this was more shenanigans from the Premier League.
There’s only one party playing games here #nufc #PremierLeague
— Mehrdad Ghodoussi (@ghodoussi) July 19, 2021
However, there have been reports from some journalists, like The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, that both sides failed to provide all the relevant evidence. Edwards has been consistently skeptical about this takeover since before the Saudi’s pulled out last summer.
Must stress this is about disclosure on both sides, not one. Neither side has given all the relevant information so both sides can be blamed.. if you feel you must blame someone #NUFCTakeover #NUFC https://t.co/b17AhFh441

It was another dark July day for the hopeful yesterday. Not as devastating as last year, but a deep disappointment for many.
There are a few potential silver linings. The Premier League is obviously playing the long game here. They are desperate to drag this along in the shadows for as long as it takes.
The goal seems to be to make the process the punishment and to exhaust Mike Ashley and the consortium into capitulation without having to reveal any of their potential misdeeds.
This suggests a lack of confidence in their evidence so if these proceedings ever get underway, it could be a positive outcome for Newcastle.
The second ‘potential’ positive is that Ashley could now be forced to invest in this squad. If he’s going to continue with the arbitration, he doesn’t want to risk being bottom of the table next Spring when the arbitration case gets underway.
So we’ll see if Ashley kicks a few more quid Steve Bruce’s way to keep Newcastle competitive while the arbitration case remains unsolved.
However, there is a chance that Ashley and the buyers just walk away. The Premier League has proven to be as unaccountable as a clandestine force pulling invisible strings. There seems to be no appetite by any institution to make them play by their own rules.
If Ashley truly wants to sell Newcastle, and not just make a massive profit, he could find a buyer quite easily by dropping his inflated asking price.
My focus remains firmly on backing Bruce and the boys. We have a great group of lads that requires a few quality additions ahead of what is likely to be another exacting season on Tyneside.

Comment #1So if arbitration is delayed then surely we should see some movement on transfers this week? 2 or 3 signed by Sunday then?
Or was this another tactic to not spend money early in the window again?
I also wondered we are effectively taking on the “top 6” would they be in a hurry to sell/loan us Willock and any players from Chelsea etc? Surely those clubs would have us last on the list of destinations for players at the moment?

Comment #2My take on the club statement is that it was just to well mannered from a nufc point of view and joint statement to boot.
There has to be something rumbling on in the background, all just seems to amicable considering it’s been an 15/16 month court battle and Ashley and Stavely have been publicly v bullish.
PL backed into a corner noww was with CAT going first , TO incoming imho
And if not so be it, gonna cling to my hopes rather face the reality of another 6 months of this crap on show.

Comment #4So , whos information is not being disclosed, if its the premier league, they should be castigated, if its the club (unlikely ,otherwise the statement would have come from the Premier league) why submit information and hold some back in a case which they want to win?
This has a delicate odour of hiding behind the non transparency clause.
It points towards the Premier league holding out as long as they can before giving up (possibly to placate certain other premier league parties).
Either way, the club (IMHO) just needs to ensure premier league survival to guarantee the takeover goes through.

Comment #5Ashley has put ten fold more effort into selling at his price, than he ever has at running the club right, and still to no avail. Just give us a decent football team to support you psychopath. It’s not fuggen rocket science pal, when you have the sort of support we do. 11 good starters and 12 more decent cover, a good coaching staff and manager. I think I could do better, and still balance the books. I really do.

Comment #6Well I guess both parties agreed to the postponement so both have things they are hiding – just can’t see takeover ever happening with Saudis, Premier League will be hoping we get relegated this season and as things stand they won’t be far off

I often wonder that myself Ashley seems to try make it seem like running Newcastle is the most difficult job in the world!
All he had to do was employ a proper director of football with a track record of success let them get on with employing coaches and scouts to deliver the vision he has!
Even just using the clubs money we could do so much better when you look at the likes of Dortmund for example buy young players develop them sell a couple and invest properly eventually that pays dividends!

Comment #9I always thought the CAT case was more important than the arbitration one, could be that NUFC held back info to prevent it going ahead?
If we are successful with CAT, then there is no arbitration, we will have proved that the EPL is corrupt with nefarious intentions by even more nefarious individuals.

Surely if we prove the PL are corrupt through CAT. Then they opens the door for 19 other clubs to also lodge lawsuits or compile claims.
One would imagine the PL will avoid this at all costs.

Comment #13Surely you can’t find in our favour that the PL have been acting unfairly and anticompetitively and not expect any of the rest of the clubs to sit up and think I can have some of that, pay day incoming.
Only stipulation is we have to win CAT for this to happen. So PL concede and pass or run the risk of losing and potentially huge losses from whoever sues next.
I’m presuming that IF we win the PL can’t say that’s the end of it nobody else is allowed sue on these grounds.

Comment #14Solano, I would think it will be an agreed statement from both sides saying all legal stuff is dropped and the EPL will approve the consortium.
That way both sides can claim they won.

Last 3 nights we have kept him company beside his bed, which had worked to an extent crying is minimal

Think his crate is his safe haven, his cave so needs to be praised (maybe a wee reward) when he chooses or is encouraged to go in there. No big fuss just needs to know its good not bad punishment place.
If he has line of sight of you (say you’re in the same room) then that’s reassuring at that time.
At night dogs metabolism slows so should get into the habit of sleeping well knowing he’s in secure place. If he moans alot to start with I think you have to resist paying attention as otherwise he’s the boss of you then! Check this out though.

Comment #30Steve Wraith / Keith Patterson impromptu YouTube (https://youtu.be/6teFTpi0fNY ).
Keith explains why he believes it was the club that has driven the arbitration postponement because the CAT case carries the weight in driving the takeover to happen. Therefore, they (the club) want the CAT to happen first. The CAT case cannot be delayed as easy as the arbitration case and we should see info about CAT case next few weeks. Sad bit is that it’s unlikely to positively impact in time for this transfer window (that’s frustrating!!).
Again, as with all my posts, make your own conclusions from this but this is interesting.

You need to establish very early on that the dog is not the ‘leader’ of the pack.
A lot of future problems with dogs, especially barking non stop, ripping up furniture etc., when they are left on their own, is down to thinking they are the pack leader.
In wolves, the only one who can leave the pack on it’s own is the leader. It will stop other wolves leaving as this weakens the packs hunting ability and in turn establishes the leaders authority.
Dofs naturally want to be the leader, it’s in their genes, if you overfuss them too much when they are puppies and aren’t firm early on if they disobey they can start to think they are dominant and therefore the leader.
Problem is, in wolves, if the leader sees his members of his pack constantly leaving it stresses them out, they get aggressive… and guess what… that’s how a dog that thinks it’s the leader can get when the family/owner goes out and it’s left on its own.
I know that all sounds a bit high brow but dogs are highly intelligent but still driven by their ancestral wolf background and genes.
I’d advise reading some articles online about dog psychology – they can be hugely useful in understanding how you should and should not bring up a puppy.
Good luck – they really are mans best friend 🙂

Comment #33Having this incomplete takeover hanging over the club for the bulk of next season will be too much of a distraction for fans and players. A permanent state of limbo. The club got away with this state of affairs for the past 14 months since the takeover first came to light due to one simple fact. There were no fans at games. So football was played in a sterile environment. This will not be the case this coming August. As fans we just want to focus 100% on supporting the team and have some pride in our club. We simply can’t do this until we have closure on this matter. Even if it’s a flat no, never. We can then move on. Unless Ashley is about to start investing in the club he is a busted flush, and I think he knows that. Perhaps time to sell to someone else, unless this CAT case delivers before the season starts.

If the CAT case was always the main weapon to get the PL to accept the takeover, then why was Staveley pushing for transparency in the arbitration case. Last week she must have thought the arbitration case was still crucial. We are forever clinging onto some aspect of the legal processes that keeps the takeover alive. In the meantime the club and us are stuck in limbo whilst other clubs progress, both on and off the pitch. Closure is needed and now.

Now, if they come in to buy a “Top 6” just watch as that is passed without any fuss with a quote saying “The PIF learned key lessons in transparency through their attempted takeover of Newcastle United, lessons they have applied correctly in taking over this great PL club, we wish them well and welcome their investment through the right channels into the league.”
