Another Dark July For Newcastle United – Ashley Must Increase Transfer Budget Or Lower Inflated Asking Price

On Monday, Newcastle United announced that the main hearing of the arbitration case against the Premier League had been adjourned. Issues with the disclosure of evidence were cited as the reason.

The case was expected to start imminently but now has basically been indefinitely postponed. An estimate of ‘early 2022’ for the case’s resumption was provided as the potential timeframe.

Immediately after the announcement, Mehrdad Ghodoussi suggested this was more shenanigans from the Premier League.

However, there have been reports from some journalists, like The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, that both sides failed to provide all the relevant evidence. Edwards has been consistently skeptical about this takeover since before the Saudi’s pulled out last summer.

It was another dark July day for the hopeful yesterday. Not as devastating as last year, but a deep disappointment for many.

There are a few potential silver linings. The Premier League is obviously playing the long game here. They are desperate to drag this along in the shadows for as long as it takes.

The goal seems to be to make the process the punishment and to exhaust Mike Ashley and the consortium into capitulation without having to reveal any of their potential misdeeds.

This suggests a lack of confidence in their evidence so if these proceedings ever get underway, it could be a positive outcome for Newcastle.

The second ‘potential’ positive is that Ashley could now be forced to invest in this squad. If he’s going to continue with the arbitration, he doesn’t want to risk being bottom of the table next Spring when the arbitration case gets underway.

So we’ll see if Ashley kicks a few more quid Steve Bruce’s way to keep Newcastle competitive while the arbitration case remains unsolved.

However, there is a chance that Ashley and the buyers just walk away. The Premier League has proven to be as unaccountable as a clandestine force pulling invisible strings. There seems to be no appetite by any institution to make them play by their own rules.

If Ashley truly wants to sell Newcastle, and not just make a massive profit, he could find a buyer quite easily by dropping his inflated asking price.

My focus remains firmly on backing Bruce and the boys. We have a great group of lads that requires a few quality additions ahead of what is likely to be another exacting season on Tyneside.

I received a circular today from Sky offering me MUFC TV and Liverpool FC TV for seven pounds a month.

Really, do they think that they are the only clubs in the country, I was livid.

Is there are hint of bias there?

The Joelinton buy was totally out of the blue so you never know we might yet be surprised, so long as it’s not another Joelinton.

Is it official the premier league tried and failed to get CAT case thrown out? I can’t find that info on CAT website. Unless I’m looking in the wrong place.

Tend to agree with Bob, Solano and others. This is not the end of it, which is initially how it looked to us, or at least the death knell.

In the meantime maybe Jail will unknot his knickers.

Listen you piece of meldrew misery, you’ve gently poured scorn, mainly over Mund, at every second positive piece of info, or opinion, he has proffered. He may be right, he may be wrong, but he is entitled to post on here. We all are.

Stop playing the victim of ITK’s and Twitter and moaning about them. If you dont like the fact that some bloke called Casey or whomever says X or Y, well dont read it , or dont take it seriously. Most of us dont.

Ignore them if they annoy you, but stop moaning like the blouse you are.

We’re all outside the process, just hoping and guessing and trying to work things out. Deal with it and stop bloody whinging.

Here’s a copy of part of the CAT order granting EPL extra time to submit its case that CAT isn’t the place to run Ashley’s case.
    ————–
UPON the Defendant filing an application to contest the Tribunal’s jurisdiction pursuant to Rule 34 of the Tribunal Rules 2015 (“the Tribunal Rules”) on 11 June 2021 (“the Jurisdiction Application”) AND UPON the Claimant filing its evidence in response to the Jurisdiction Application on 28 June 2021 AND UPON the Defendant’s application by letter dated 30 June 2021 requesting a extension of time for the filing and service of its evidence in reply AND UPON reading correspondence from the solicitors for the Claimant dated 30 June and 1 July 2021 setting out its position in respect of the Defendant’s application for an extension of time IT IS ORDERED THAT: 1. The Defendant is granted an extension of time in which to file and serve its evidence in reply until 5pm on 12 July 2021.

There’s no sign of any juridiction decision from CAT so there’s still a chance the EPL argument’ll won’t be thrown out.

    I think

Some explosive claims on the Wraith show about what will be revealed if the CAT case goes ahead. From outside influences like Bein, Hoffman being a plant, criminal collusion amongst the league and big six, prior knowledge about the super league, even match fixing I’ve heard mentioned.

If these allegations are true then to be honest I’d rather we don’t settle out of court even if the takeover was delayed, if it meant all the corruption was brought to light and the guilty parties brought to book. Even with a takeover, what is the point of being in such a corrupt institution? Hang the b*stards out to dry!

I kind of want the organisation to be exposed as well have often thought the likes of Man Utd got so much favouritism in the Fergie years through referee decisions, choice of fixtures etc

I mean look what happened to Italian football with Juventus, Milan etc? It was the best league in the world at that point

    LCBP,
Something needs to be done because that squad on Saturday bar young Kell Watts was basically the full first team squad and it looks washed up. AsM, Wilson and Fraser the only real stand out players and they were both promoted from the championship and signed from the championship. We don’t even know yet if Fraser has the appetite to play for Bruce. I know we got beat off Boro 5-1 last year but your first team even with 11 changes should be beating York at a stroll.

Is it any surprise that we struggled against York even on a friendly though? Under Bruce until Jones came in we hardly ever won a game that we deserved it including the cup games against lower league opposition the guy doesn’t have a clue other than sit men behind the ball and fluke a goal!

The squad has long needed a proper freshen up which if the club had have been smart or even followed Rafa’s plan the likes of Shelvey, Richie, Clark etc would have been phased out to be either competent backup or sold for younger better players!!

Everyone of our players is getting a year older together some players from one year to the next suddenly can’t hack it at the top level we have far too many of those players now at risk at the same time!

Just popping in to say that’s me done with football entirely.

    Riddled with corruption.

Logically when I look back, as much as it is painful to admit, I’ve wasted a lot of time on this hobby. Every single season in every competition, there are multiple decisions every week which are wrong, making a mockery of the final standings.

The PL are absolutely blatant in their motivation to prevent NUFC being taken over now. They want Newcastle United relegated.

I urge anyone else to have a long hard think about how you spend your time and money, we only get one life. Many more things to do.

Been on here 10 years and a NUFC fan for 25. I’m pulling it all out of my life by the root. I’ll be one of those exclusively international tournament casuals from now on. In 5 years time I aim to barely know any of the players pulling on their country’s shirt.

Wishing you all health and happiness. Bye!

    LCBP,
Last year it was pretty obvious the players tried to get Bruce sacked against Brighton and Ashley called their bluff. I think it must have been a message something like, I don’t care if we go down I’m a billionaire, you lot however will be getting championship wages. It seemed to work, that and a combination of Jones coaching. Maybe they’ll keep us safe another year.
