Bruce Calls Up Three Youngsters To First-Team Training

Newcastle United have released some images of today’s training session ahead of our next friendly at Doncaster on Friday. Some positive news is that Joelinton was involved after being removed from Sunday’s match at York City on Sunday with a thigh problem.

The Brazilian will be assessed before Friday’s match and hopefully, can play a part. There were no sightings of Miguel Almiron, Emil Krafth, or Fabian Schar in the photos. So it doesn’t look like they’ve returned from their rest period after international duty.

To make up the numbers, Bruce has called up three youngsters to the first team. They are midfielder Jack Young, center-back Oisín McEntee, and forward Tom Allan. So it’ll be interesting to see if either of them makes the squad for Doncaster.

Tom Allan made his Newcastle debut in the FA Cup third-round replay against Rochdale in 2020. The local lad provided the assist on Joelinton’s goal. He’s coming off an unsuccessful loan spell with Accrington Stanley in League One making just four appearances.

He was ultimately recalled in January and he resumed his impressive goal-scoring form for the U23s. Allan is entering the final year of his contract and will turn 22 in September.

Jack Young is a 20-year-old midfielder who also ended up being recalled from a loan in January. Young joined Tranmere Rovers in League Two and played in three of their first four matches. However, the sacking of manager Mike Jackson saw his appearances dry up.

Oisín McEntee is a central defender who was born in New York. He’s in the Republic of Ireland international set-up and was recently called up for their U21s. He turned 20 at the start of the year and has been a consistent presence in Chris Hogg’s U23s

Dan Langley will likely get the nod once again in goal with four first-team goalkeepers unavailable. For the York City match, Bruce called up 16-year-old Max Thompson as the back-up. He also has Jake Turner and Will Brown in the ranks. Turner started the match at Harrogate Town on Sunday

    Scythe,
I’m going to need a push to try and recruit a few more posters to the H2H, we’re ten short of two leagues of twenty.

Some would prefer to see Cooper as our manager over Bruce.

Does any of the older generation remember the Newcastle Wednesday Business Leagues???
Shops and businesses use to close for a half day on Wednesday and a lot of the employees use to play for their works mid-week teams !

The Guardian has written an extensive article on our takeover. Tweeted to a million followers.

Actually gives us exposure and sympathy. Really good.

From previous post, regarding Ajmer, I watched him about 8 times last year with Celtic, and Imo when we were after him for £5-10 million pounds it would have been a great buy. A few posters slagged him off as he went to Brentford, they have probably not even seen him play, we,ll see next season how he gets on etc…., As they say…proofs in the pudding !

    Cleveleys

I’m not sure whether it was you who raised the point about CAT being able to over-ride the EPL and approve the takeover.

Anyway, it having been a nice day and with nowt better to do (well, there’s lots I could’ve done but couldn’t be bothered), a bit of trawling on the CAT site uncovered this extract from the claim.

‘The Claimant seeks: (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) Damages for loss of profit or, alternatively, loss of opportunity. An injunction requiring the Defendant to withdraw the Director Decision and/or to reconsider the same. Interest. Costs. Such further or other relief as the Tribunal considers appropriate.’

You’ll see that among other things, Ashley’s looking for a CAT injunction to force the EPL to ‘withdraw the Director Decision and/or to reconsider the same.’

In other words, CAT can’t over-ride the EPL’s approval process but could, if it found in our favour, instruct the EPL to look at it again.

So, that clears that one up.

It’s not Steve Cooper we need, it’s a reincarnation of Tommy.

Charlie – Aye I remember that league – decent quality as well.
Co-op invariably won it every year. The lad who was the secretary of the Co-op team used to buy in some of his players hence they won it most years.

We held league meetings in the bar at Cowgate where their pitch was. Lots of outfits let their employees away on Wednesday afternoons for football and sport. Probably that does not happen now.

    Jamesthefirst, Romford

It seems like an age since I was mailing The Grauniad’s head of sports coverage or whatever he’s called, to try to convince him that some digging might result in a decent story.

And here we are, a year or so later, and Louise Taylor runs with the story.

    Hopefully, from little acorns etc.

I thought the same too regarding Steve Cooper – why would he leave Swansea unless he has another job lined up. At the moment can’t think of a particular club he could go to (other than NUFC)

Would NUFC supporters welcome Steve Cooper as manager?

Lesh – thanks for clarification on CAT, that’s my nagging concern that the compensation element and proving the EPL are more important to Ash (compo) and Paterson (EPL exposure) than actually getting takeover done
As much as I will be happy to read the EPL are the bunch of crooks we all believe I’d rather have new owners
Hopefully they haven’t lost sight of that goal

An extract from a Chron piece on our supposed interest on tbe young, Swedish midfielder Jens Cajuste:

‘Sources in Denmark say that United have told FC Midtjylland that Cajuste is high on their priority list at the moment with Steve Bruce also indicating he was in dire need of a midfielder.’

Is it any wonder they fail to get players signed up before prices go up and we miss them?

If there was a bit more action rather than talking about things bubbling away, we might be able to get players in in good time.

    Aye, I hear what you’re saying @33.

I think Ashley’d be chasing the injuction and with it, the compen etc.

My simple mind says that unless he wins the case outright, there’s injunction and thus no compen.
