Bobby Clark Could Be Latest Academy Talent NUFC Fail To Hold Onto

There’s some concerning news surfacing that Newcastle could be set to lose 16-year-old Bobby Clark to Liverpool. This was reported as an exclusive by Rising Ballers on Twitter earlier today.

The Mail’s Simon Jones is now reporting that Liverpool are winning the race for the young attacking midfielder, who is the son of former Magpie Lee Clark. According to Jones, Liverpool are battling Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham for Clark’s signature.

This is distressing news as these reports seem to infer that Newcastle don’t stand much of a chance to retain one of our brightest young prospects – and one with local ties to boot.

Clark made his debut for the Newcastle U18s in September of 2019 at just 14. He is part of the England set-up having been called up to the U16s this past April. Recently, his father rubbished claims that the youngster was offered to Tottenham, only to be turned down by Spurs.

This will be a bitter blow to lose another promising youngster before he barely even gets started at Newcastle. In 2015, Liverpool signed Luis Longstaff (no relation to Sean or Matty) from our Academy and two years later Newcastle were forced to sell Lewis Gibson to Everton as he wouldn’t sign a new contract.

Newcastle have shaken up the Academy on a few occasions over the past few years. This summer Steve Harper was named Academy manager after the club released over a dozen youngsters.

We now look on the brink of losing one of our top young prospects to a club overflowing with Academy talent. Here’s a BBC video clip of Clark competing in the Wonderkid Challenge last year.

This lad is better off away from NUFC he will develop more elsewhere.

Happy if we get Lemina finally a Diame replacement he’s a sold player, Willock hopefully signed as well. Cajuste too? Bruce just wants a team of CMs as we are so so light there

    toon22,

That’s the second time today that you’ve asked me that same question.

So, let’s do this (and anyone else can join in)

We can both go do some research into how much we have spent in the last 10 years. Then come back and post our answers.
I don’t know the answer, but i think its a lot more than £7M

Evening Jane, in answer to your question Larne would be doing very well to beat that Danish team as the the league in Denmark is a step up from the Northern Irish league, but as you know anything is possible in football. HWTL

If Willock is a no go, what about Lingard. He was good at WestHam last season.

If Ashley does not want to spend we should get foreign player on loan with a option to buy then hopefully Ashley wont be here when it comes to the time to sign them at the end of the season.

Can we still only have 2 domestic loans per season?

It’s probably £7m per season with most of that given to Bruce!
Before Bruce our net spend during Ashley’s tenure was close to zero. That’s what 2 relegations do to you when wages aren’t affected. You lose £200m which could have been spent on all sorts. What’s sad is it wouldn’t take much in the way of investment into the mgt structure to ensure we are never flirting with relegation. Leicester have done it.

There has to be mate, surely. We get linked with every Tom, Dick and Harry so who knows if we were even in for Lemina.

Looks bleak right now like but getting Willock done sharpish would call some nerves.

Me being the pessimist on all things NUFC don’t think anyone will be coming in – buying or loan deal.
Couple more will go out at the right price
We will make the squad numbers up with kids
September the 1st will get the same sh*t we tried to get players in but could not get over the line
Bruce will resign due no funds to buy !!!

REPOST just realised was still on old thread

    Jail

I’ve been busy so catching up – can’t recall who was in frame or in what order ( speculation was probably as way off mark as it is nowadays just less of it as printed) but all that matters is it was Souness appointed.

As I recall and without googling it Shepherd was looking to have a disciplinarian in to sort out dressing room issues which were plaguing SBR

Since KK’s first spell there are only 2 managers I had “welcomed” in – SBR and Rafa – loads of missed opportunities bring us to here

That includes KK returning which I felt was a big mistake but probably one he had to take a chance on

Hardly a surprise. Bobby Clark has a chance at a good career, and Lee Clark will know as well as anyone about the importance of being schooled correctly in the game. Rafa banged on repeatedly about the Academy, and the need to do things right. It is less than ordinary, to put it mildly, for a club of our size and catchment area, and not a patch on the senior clubs. I hope Mike Ashley takes these things personally. He certainly should.

Confidence levels are rising that this review of football’s governance might actually result in some real & positive change. Football fans, if you’ve got 5 mins, I strongly recommend reading Tracey Crouch’s update on her fan-led review. It’s very encouraging.
