The Magpies have defeated Doncaster 3-2 at the Keepmoat Stadium. Callum Wilson got Newcastle going after a slow start to the half. The match got mired after a slew of substitutions but Newcastle put in a decent display on the night.
Newcastle emerged for the second half unchanged after taking a 2-1 lead into the break. Newcastle were a bit sloppy with the ball to start the half.
However, in the 56th minute, the Magpies went on a break resulting in a cool Callum Wilson finish to pad the lead. Ryan Fraser got the assist to add to his first-half goal as he found our new number 9 in the box. Wilson did the rest.

Soon after Wilson’s goal, Steve Bruce was forced to bring Federico Fernandez on for Isaac Hayden, who had picked up a slight knock. Fernandez went in on the right side of the back three.
At the 66 minute mark, Bruce withdrew Saint-Maximin and Wilson. On came Matty Longstaff and Dwight Gayle with Sean Longstaff pushing up the pitch. Paul Dummett made way for Ciaran Clark a few minutes later.
Soon after Ryan Fraser sailed a shot over the crossbar from 10 yards out, Doncaster cut Newcastle’s lead to 1. Dan Langley couldn’t keep Omar Bogle’s header from getting in to make it 3-2.
In the 76th minute, Bruce brought 20-year-old Jack Young on for Ryan Fraser. He also soon brought on Kell Watts and Tom Allan for Lascelles and Murphy. Ciaran Clark moved to the middle of the back three while Allan played at right wing-back.
Matt Bondswell was brought on for Lewis to play on the left to make it three of the U23s to get into the match. The flurry of subs affected the flow of the game with not much to shout about as Newcastle kept the slim advantage until the final whistle.
