Journalist Believes Willock Will Arrive As Two Young Midfielders Are Linked

Another day has come to an end with no new signings through the door at Newcastle. The season starts in just 11 days and there’s little reason to believe the Magpies will enter this campaign significantly improved from the last.

Other clubs have not let a season played behind closed doors be an excuse to not improve their squads ahead of the new season. The spending has been diminished from the pre-Covid past but significant money has been spent on some excellent players by clubs outside the top six.

Recent reports have other clubs snapping up some of our targets while Newcastle continue to play the waiting game for Joe Willock. The latest one is Axel Tuanzebe who looks headed for a season-long loan at Aston Villa. They have just announced the shock signing of Danny Ings from Southampton on a three-year deal.

Joe Willock remains the focus of our window. There are other targets but the Arsenal midfielder seems like a must after this much effort has been put into signing him. The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards feels Willock will eventually arrive along with a few other loan signings.

Edwards recently reported Newcastle were willing to meet Arsenal’s £22m asking price for Willock. Adding the 21-year-old along with two others seems the bare minimum required considering how the other business around the league.

A new name has popped on Newcastle’s radar in Tottenham’s Oliver Skipp according to The Mail. The 20-year-old is highly rated by Spurs but could be available for another loan. The defensive midfielder thrived last season on loan with Norwich making 47 appearances.

Despite signing Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour, another Newcastle target, The Canaries want to bring Skipp back once again. There are reportedly a few other clubs in for the midfielder with Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo yet to make a decision on his future.

Another 20-year-old midfielder that Newcastle are said to be tracking is Derby County’s Jason Knight. The Irish Examiner is reporting that both Burnley and Newcastle are keeping tabs on the impressive youngster.

The Irish international is out with an ankle injury until October courtesy of his manager Wayne Rooney who collided with him during pre-season training. He’s already made 80 appearances with 9 goals for Derby and his contract runs out in 2023.

Like with Newcastle, takeover uncertainty at Derby has resulted in financial constraints. Rooney is extremely short of players but Derby could be forced to cash in on Knight should any reasonable offers come in.

It seems very unlikely Knight will be targeted should Willock sign on a permanent deal. Derby wouldn’t entertain a loan offer and Ashley probably wouldn’t hand Bruce any more cash to spend.

This Knight must be a decent player if Rooney feels the need to give him a boot.

Since the last couple of posts have been on the topic I will say I can’t help but read up every now and again on how Rafa is getting on…I’m nostalgic like that and everything I have also read in the past made me like him as there is a similar mentality to how I trained and coached as a goalkeeper and also other avenues in life. Anyway….just pulled this up and for some reason always imagine this is what a Newcastle training session should look like but all I picture is Bruce sitting in his office (as that is what has been said several times), while the other Steve’s carry on not really knowing what to do while things run at a snail “pace” in every corner right now.

    https://princerupertstower.com/2021/07/16/everton-rafa-benitez-training/

Allan said “When I arrived at Napoli, he had just left. My teammates spoke highly of him, a hard-working, dedicated guy.

“Someone who was attentive to all parts of training and games. I hope we can achieve great things together at Everton this season.

“He is very active during training, always instructing the players to move and pass the ball better.

“For those of us in midfield, he always asks for us to keep it as simple as possible, two touches of the ball, always look to play forward… and to always have a compact line so we’re prepared for all types of games.”

meanwhile our training and matches now are top secret and behind closed doors as we don’t want all the other big clubs to see the tactics we’re working on bubbling away over those irons in the fire behind the scenes

Rafa was great, both in terms of galvanizing the players and the fans. Among the top three we’ve had I think. However, a few things. He had a squad that literally was too good to go down, and only did go down because of Maclaren, and Ashley and Charnley waiting too long to act, but Rafa was allowed the money to reshape it, basically giving him an EPL squad in the Championship, and in terms of value, an EPL squad when he came back up, and part of the reshaping was Gayle, and the sidelining Mitrovic, and we’ve basically carried Gayle since. Then of course there’s Muto, Slimani and Joselu, although counterbalanced by Rondon and Perez who were a great success.

On balance Rafa was great, but up top, we were hit and miss, and that really is a critical position, and it wasn’t all down to budget, he did have money, all be it by needing to sell to buy, but he did have it. Bruce of course has been allowed a net spend of a further hundred million and has only matched Rafa in terms of points, and until Bonna came in, failed to near match him in terms of technical nous. To me Rafa is an 8 out of 10 manager, top 6 or 7 in this league. Bruce a six out of ten manager and bottom third. That’s a fairly sizable gulf, but he’ll still surely look back and think he didn’t really get it right up top for us.

Have enjoyed Ruddys contributions today. Good posts, full of facts and respectful.
Some didn’t respond too well but only because they are perhaps used to always having the final say on points made.
They will no doubt mark his card and be ready to respond on his future posts. But the blog has these feuds all over the place. We are mental, we are mad…!
It’s good to have well informed views, don’t be put off by others.

But I also accept that some posters feel they are targeted.
And we’ll done Mund for not kicking off.
Take it as a compliment that you’re one of the core blog posters. The Bard wouldn’t bother with posters with lower profiles.
Most on here value what you post and know you love this mad club as much as the rest of us. And I’m not bothered about your grammar!
And the Bard, keep posting your poems.

We’d all love these new takeover rumours to be true, but I am pretty sick of the whole shit show. It’s never ending. I think if we’re left hanging on this until next year it will consume the club and we’re likely to get relegated. The info vacuum is just a killer and will be affecting the mental health of thousands of Toon fans. Seems to be all the rage to focus on the importance of mental health, but not when it comes to us. What the PL are subjecting us to is despicable. And we’re meant to just carry on supporting this club as if nothing is going on. This would never be accepted by Manure, Liverpool or Chelsea fans. We never hit the streets during lockdown when the process was stalled by the PL, but the scousers were outside Anfield with flares etc.do they get away with it because they are seen as a big club. If we do nothing at West Ham, we deserve what we get.

At the start of last season it felt like we were in the same group of clubs such as Everton, West Ham and Villa.
Structurally and traditionally destined to be between 4th and 10th.
    The cartel apart.

Next season feels wrong already and unless something signficant happens then we’re in with Burnley, Brighton, Southampton, Brentford jostling for the bottom 5 places.

    Ashley needs to be gone.
    Charnley is missing in action.
Two Steves don’t seem to inspire and the third just keeps badgering about like a blithering blunderbus.

The club isn’t about ambition, just some sort of insomnia.

    The exception is the fans.
Just need the Manager to stop spouting drivel.

Can I just re-iterate that what Mund said earlier regarding the TO was absolutely correct.

The rumours are not coming from emgee or Sean Casey.

That doesn’t necessarily make them any more accurate, but allows for individual interpretation. Like many others I don’t really believe it but I’m hoping I’m wrong and that something is happening. Those of you who read my stuff will have noticed I questioned the apparent lack of activity within this last week, as I couldn’t understand the “nothing happening” stance.

And for those of you who think that such happenings are watertight regarding info. Then you are very wrong. Legal offices depend on clerks doing all the paperwork, making copies, filing letters etc. The same will be true of the Consortium’s offices and MA’s people. There only needs to be one of these with an anonymous Twitter account to leak a few details of what they’ve seen or heard around the office and the rumour mill takes over. Keeping absolute security over such things is not possible.

However, that being said, I’d recommend a pessimistic view is better all round than an optimistic one as disappointments don’t hurt as much 🙂

With rumours earlier of a deal being done soon – could it be that Ashley and the Premiership have struck up a deal that the Saudis can take over.
Maybe the Premiership have been told they do not have a leg to stand on and to save face given Ashley he go ahead – win for Ashley gets his money – win for them no dragging through court and having to pay Ashley and the legal fees

Hi Jail, I don’t know all the people on Twitter and don’t have loads of followers like some, but most are NUFC fans from around the country.

I don’t dismiss everything out of hand, as something going on is possible.

But equally, I don’t believe much of what I read on Twitter generally as I’ve seen some right rubbish. Just think sharing ideas on here is OK so long as it’s balanced, source identified and left to bloggers to make their own minds up. 🙂
