Another day has come to an end with no new signings through the door at Newcastle. The season starts in just 11 days and there’s little reason to believe the Magpies will enter this campaign significantly improved from the last.
Other clubs have not let a season played behind closed doors be an excuse to not improve their squads ahead of the new season. The spending has been diminished from the pre-Covid past but significant money has been spent on some excellent players by clubs outside the top six.
Recent reports have other clubs snapping up some of our targets while Newcastle continue to play the waiting game for Joe Willock. The latest one is Axel Tuanzebe who looks headed for a season-long loan at Aston Villa. They have just announced the shock signing of Danny Ings from Southampton on a three-year deal.
Joe Willock remains the focus of our window. There are other targets but the Arsenal midfielder seems like a must after this much effort has been put into signing him. The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards feels Willock will eventually arrive along with a few other loan signings.
I think Joe Willock will sign for #nufc and that’s all I can say that is positive at the moment. And I can’t even guarantee that. Others will also arrive on loan but have a feeling it will be late in the window. Centre back and another midfielder so three in total

Edwards recently reported Newcastle were willing to meet Arsenal’s £22m asking price for Willock. Adding the 21-year-old along with two others seems the bare minimum required considering how the other business around the league.
A new name has popped on Newcastle’s radar in Tottenham’s Oliver Skipp according to The Mail. The 20-year-old is highly rated by Spurs but could be available for another loan. The defensive midfielder thrived last season on loan with Norwich making 47 appearances.
Despite signing Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour, another Newcastle target, The Canaries want to bring Skipp back once again. There are reportedly a few other clubs in for the midfielder with Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo yet to make a decision on his future.
Another 20-year-old midfielder that Newcastle are said to be tracking is Derby County’s Jason Knight. The Irish Examiner is reporting that both Burnley and Newcastle are keeping tabs on the impressive youngster.
The Irish international is out with an ankle injury until October courtesy of his manager Wayne Rooney who collided with him during pre-season training. He’s already made 80 appearances with 9 goals for Derby and his contract runs out in 2023.
Like with Newcastle, takeover uncertainty at Derby has resulted in financial constraints. Rooney is extremely short of players but Derby could be forced to cash in on Knight should any reasonable offers come in.
It seems very unlikely Knight will be targeted should Willock sign on a permanent deal. Derby wouldn’t entertain a loan offer and Ashley probably wouldn’t hand Bruce any more cash to spend.
