It was announced earlier on Monday that Ryan Fraser had been pulled from the Scotland squad ahead of tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier at Austria. Scotland manager Steven Clarke has now confirmed that Fraser picked up a knock in a training saying the following as published in The Shields Gazette:
“Unfortunately, Ryan Fraser picked up a knock in training which, again with the short turnaround, just means there’s no point in taking him. He wouldn’t be ready for the game.”
Clarke’s reference to a ‘knock’ is in stark contrast to a photograph talkSPORT has just put out on Twitter. The below image shows Ryan in a walking boot and on crutches with an injury to his lower right leg.

Ryan Fraser has been spotted leaving the Scotland team hotel in a protective boot and on crutches ?

This does not look good at all for the 27-year-old, who has struggled with fitness and injuries since joining Newcastle as a free agent last summer. Fraser missed the final few months of last season after picking up a groin injury while away with Scotland in March.
Fraser needed surgery for his groin injury and ended up missing the final nine matches of the campaign. From the image above, it looks like he’s facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Comment #2I think Fraser is more or less finished at 27. A similar age to Owen when he packed up.

Comment #4Rugby League has men of steel and we have men of glass. Take your pick who would smash first. Quite a few on offer and they are our better players.

Comment #5Wilson, Fraser and ASM are all made of glass. Typical Newcastle we’ve got no cover for them when they get injured.

Comment #7Dubravka – crock (for a GK frequently injured)
Lascelles – crock
Dummett – crock
Shelvey – crock
Fraser – crock
ASM – crock
Wilson – crock
Gayle – crock
That’s 7 out of our first 11 that are constantly injured. Also Gayle thst is cover for Wilson is regularly injured too.
That is certainly not good enough for this level. Especially a problem when we have much inferior players to cover them when injured.
We need and deserve so much better. I have no idea how this group of players will save us from relegation.

Comment #8As I remember, Bournemouth wanted to renew Fraser’s contract but he refused and effectively went on strike by refusing to play in pre-season friendly matches that were within the time period of his existing contract with Bournemouth. He did this to avoid any injury which would have scuppered his chances of a transfer. It caused quite a stink at the time, with the PFA getting involved.
So, even back then before his transfer to us, HE kinew he was pretty fragile even if we didn’t.

Comment #10Everyone injured, doesn’t make any odds I suppose as he chucked the towel in before our game even started at Manure last season!
At least he has a reason this year 😆

Comment #17F.G. Watt, “the man who made Newcastle United”
“Watt had great ambitions for Newcastle. Upon arrival he declared “We’re going to be the best team in the country.” ”
“During his time at Newcastle, the club won the old First Division four times in 1905, 1907, 1909 and 1927. They won the FA Cup in 1910 and 1924 and were finalists on four more occasions, in 1905, 1906, 1908 and 1911.”

NY Mag said he was expecting family to visit for what’s a US equivalent of a bank holiday long weekend.
He never mentioned being affected by the flooding and we hope and trust they’re all ok.
And as for you and your young beau, enjoy the lakes and take care.

Comment #33Love this, I know sounds strange as I bleed black and white.
But we all said it, we didn’t get any cover and all said what if this happens.
I want us to get relegated, I don’t want that fat piece of shite to get anymore 100 million plus as he doesn’t put it back into the club like he should do.
This may also get Bruce out of our club.
I know some will be like that’s not the answer, but for me staying in the league doesn’t seem to be the answer too.

Four day weekend here. Labor Day today and it’s the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah tomorrow. Kids don’t go back to school until Wednesday (around here at least).
That probably explains NY Mag’s absence 🙂
