Magpie Pictured On Crutches After Latest Injury Setback

It was announced earlier on Monday that Ryan Fraser had been pulled from the Scotland squad ahead of tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier at Austria. Scotland manager Steven Clarke has now confirmed that Fraser picked up a knock in a training saying the following as published in The Shields Gazette:

“Unfortunately, Ryan Fraser picked up a knock in training which, again with the short turnaround, just means there’s no point in taking him. He wouldn’t be ready for the game.”

Clarke’s reference to a ‘knock’ is in stark contrast to a photograph talkSPORT has just put out on Twitter. The below image shows Ryan in a walking boot and on crutches with an injury to his lower right leg.

This does not look good at all for the 27-year-old, who has struggled with fitness and injuries since joining Newcastle as a free agent last summer. Fraser missed the final few months of last season after picking up a groin injury while away with Scotland in March.

Fraser needed surgery for his groin injury and ended up missing the final nine matches of the campaign. From the image above, it looks like he’s facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The way Bruce was talking about Wilson havind a niggle suggests they knew about the injury before the match. He went down after 20mins with a thigh problem and wasn’t taken off until 60mins.
It’s unbelievably stupid to let that happen. Don’t know who’s to blame for him continuing, but it’s Bruce’s job to protect the players from further injury even if the player wants to play on or Bruce is desperate for points. So short sighted and frustrating for us fans.

    Assassins,
As you know I’m bang in to the FPL so follow all the stats/trends etc, we are being seen as the whipping boys along with Norwich with managers seeing it as a must have any attackers playing us.

Shame for Fraser he played well against Burnley and followed it up with a decent cameo against Southampton with a hand in the goal …. think he’s gonna be one of them that never really gets going for us,that said, it’s the rumour Wilson’s out for a number of weeks that’s the big news. We were limp with him without him …. completely fracked only Gayle as a recognised striker in the squad (impossible to count joe as 1 and maxi prefers coming from deep). Ronaldo next up then media darling bielsa, who gave us 2 walloping last season, winter is coming.

Also another bit of crap organisation let out by club today, appointed Caldwell as interim academy boss and let him go today when we still haven’t appointed someone full time, another body taking over until then, shambles the way we operate like.

Jail, yes, it’s the mànager’s job to have the sense to protect the players from themselves. Muscle injuries don’t get better by playing on, they only get more serious, how can the medical staff not know this. Maybe if he was taken off after 20mins, with treatment and rest he could have been ready for ManU.

Aye the budget went on half time oranges. No money for ice even though some budget was saved from wages by laying the tea lady off. One of the grounds men was expected to multi task by bringing the urn out but that ideas fracked as he injured himself pushing the manual lawnmower. So all in all another penfold and greenback clusterfrack.

Has the 25 man squad list been submitted yet? If not, perhaps there’s a chance we could pick up a striker on a free, although it’ll either be someone who’s over the hill (not Ashley’s preference for 30+ year olds) or someone not good enough to improve us, hence then being out of contract.

We can’t survive with just Gayle, and we all knew Wilson’s track record with injuries so it doesn’t take a genius to know that we’d need a decent back-up for this exact situation that we find ourselves in.

Looking at who’s currently available on a free:

    Hal Robson-Kanu (32)
    Daniel Sturridge (32)
    Wilfried Bony (32)
Facundo Ferreyra (30) – remember him?
Demba Ba (36) – we definitely remember him
    Yaya Sanogo (28)
    Connor Wickham (28)
Seydou Doumbia (33) – he looks about 53
    Papiss Cisse (36)

If Kets was in charge, he’d sign all of them!

In all seriousness though, none of them would be any better than Gayle and nobody else on the free transfer list of forwards jumped out at me as a viable solution.

    In conclusion: we’re screwed 🙂

Wilson and six other squad players ill or injured and possibly unavailable for Saturday. Is this the squad that Mikey boy feels is more than enough to challenge?

But with the possibility of Wilson being unfit, Gayle’s the obvious choice to stand in for him….. or is it?

ManU’ll have Gayle worked out but someone they won’t know about is young Dylan Stephenson. Too young? Inexperienced? So what, there’s nowt to lose by playing him.

I suppose it depends on the young lad’s mentality and what he’s able to handle. It’s one thing to have the footballing ability, but you need the mental strength to go with it. Especially when it’ll be at Old Trafford, and Ronaldo’s big return there too.

Might be a bit much hoying the lad into a cauldron like that. I can see where you’re coming from though 🙂

Wilson is an injury prone player, and Bruce is the type of manager that will leave injured players on the pitch because he has no plan B and it takes him a long time to react with alternative strategies. If we are drawing but getting slaughtered he will leave things as they are, if we are losing 1-0 we will leave things as he’s ‘still in the game’ and rather than be proactive he just hopes we can get a lucky draw. Go 2-0 down then he throws all his attackers on. That’s basically the input he has from bench. Do nothing, do nothing, panic.

Bruce left Hayden on when he hurt his knee. After the problems Hayden has had recently with his knee that is either down to stupidity or Bruce being a rabbit in.headlights and mentally freezing. Longstaff is a like for like replacement so that change should have been easy. Shelvey played on through.injury. Wilson played on through injury. We’ve seen it with ASM and Lejuene. Lejuene wasn’t happy about playing twice in 4 days then being scapegoated for not being fit enough, and reading between the lines I think they might have had an argument about that.

Injuries follow Bruce. Rafa had none. I remember being frustrated sometimes with Rafa holding our best players back an.extra week after their injuries, but it worked.

if Wilson isn’t fit I’d expect him to play Joel up top, with St Max in support. Joel’s been very poor at finishing, but so long as he has support we know hew can and probably he will contribute to the overall performance. I think he sees Gayle as clear third choice.

Fraser seems to suffer from not being used by Bruce at all for a run of games then plays for Scotland where he gives 100% and then comes back injured because of the difference he is always likely to never be fit if he can’t get a run of games

Shame as he was a player I was looking forward to playing with ASM at the same time

The slimy six are allowed to operate with impunity.

Liverpool are exploring a possible move for 24-year-old Valencia and Spain midfielder Carlos Soler, who has a £125m release clause in his contract. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp views Soler as a possible replacement for Netherlands midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, 30, who joined Paris St-Germain on a free transfer this summer.

Fraser suffers from not wanting to be here. He had a move to Arsenal or Everton lined up and didn’t realise that his shitehousery in refusing to play for Bournemouth would back fire, if he’d played, kept them up then he would have got an even better deal off one of them. Shortsighted greed and stupidity got the better of him and he was left with his agent scrapping round trying to find a better deal than Palace who offered him less money than he was on at Bournemouth. Along came Churnley and Bruce where attitude is not a factor, they were getting a player valued at £20M only a year ago for free. The alarm bells should have rang after he basically said give me two weeks to find a better deal then I’ll let you know.

See you asked a few times yesterday and I think the answer is that nobody is 100% sure about Wilson’s injury until someone at the club tells us. Fantasy football has it down as a thigh injury and 75% chance of playing, not sure how accurate they tend to be? I think seeing as Bruce mentioned it after the game, he definitely has been injured since, whether it’s cleared up and he’s good to go by Saturday is anyone’s guess. If he’s 75% fit though, chances are Bruce will throw him in anyway.

Bruce hasn’t been interviewed about the game yet this week so I imagine he would update about Wilson’s injury

One thing though is Wilson has been taken off in every game so far this season in games that we have been chasing the game that screams to me that he isn’t fit

I wouldn’t be risking him against Man Utd even if he was saying he felt fine

It doesn`t get any better in the real world either, I clocked out this morning and the whole radiator contents were all over the car park, so that looks like a fairly hefty bill for repair.
Just as well iv`e got another car to fall back on or i would be paying an arm and a leg for taxi`s for the rest of the week.
