Magpie Has Belief Newcastle Can Pick Up A Result At Old Trafford

Newcastle’s dynamic duo of Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin has gotten off to a decent start to the campaign. Our two forwards have combined for 3 goals and 1 assist in the opening three EPL matches.

However, Newcastle have failed to make their contributions at the top end of the pitch count with just one point over that stretch. One of our major issues has been conceding soft goals at inopportune times.

That was no more apparent than against Southampton just before the international break. Saint-Maximin gave Newcastle the lead late with his stoppage-time strike only to give away a penalty after some panicked defending a few minutes later.

Newcastle have a very difficult fixture looming when the season restarts on Saturday. A trip to Old Trafford and Manchester United is on the horizon which is hardly a match you crave when looking for your first win of the campaign.

Allan Saint-Maximin has spoken to NUFC TV and feels Newcastle can pick up a result despite how formidable our opponent is. Here is what Allan said about Saturday’s match:

“We have a tough game at the weekend against Manchester United. We are working a lot in our training and that’s why I feel a little bit tired. It’s really important.

“We need a win. We need a win for the start of the season. Even if we play against Manchester United, we know if every player gives the best they can give, we can win this game. So let’s do it.”

We are still sweating out the availability of Callum Wilson for Saturday’s trip to Old Trafford. The striker was forced off with a thigh injury against The Saints.

Hopefully, Wilson will be available as his absence will make Saturday’s task that much more difficult. If Callum can’t go, it’ll likely be either Joelinton or Dwight Gayle to get their first start in the league this season.

Every match is a tough one in the Premier League. After thrashing Leeds 5-1 on opening day, The Red Devils have eeked out two away results – a 1-1 draw at Southampton and a 1-0 win at Wolves.

Saint-Maximin watched the match at Molineux on television and has taken some belief away from what he witnessed. The Frenchman feels Wolves had chances to pick up a result and believes Newcastle can do just that if he and his teammates are at their best:

“The Premier League is really tough. I saw their game against Wolverhampton and Wolverhampton had a lot of chances to win the match.

“Even though it’s Manchester United, they are not like other teams. We have to keep going and try to do the best things we can do to win this game.

“If we cannot win, we don’t have to lose and that’s the mentality we need to have.”

The focus on Saturday will be the return of Ronaldo to Manchester United. The 36-year-old is likely to feature in some capacity. Saint-Maximin was asked about Ronaldo’s return and this was his response:

“To be honest, even before Ronaldo signed, they had a great team.

“So for sure, with Cristiano Ronaldo now, they can look much better but we have to stay focused because if we just think about Ronaldo, we’re going to lose the game for sure.

“So we just have to stay focused and to feel like it’s just football, and if you give your best and give everything, anything can happen, so we have to do it.”

Saint-Maximin has a chance to upstage Ronaldo and I’m sure he’s itching to do just that. The Frenchman loves a stage and Saturday is a grand opportunity for him to strut his stuff.

Gates are dropping, there’s expected to be a very hostile atmosphere against Leeds, is it just a coincidence that we hear of takeover news and De Narcos tweeting, I bet he’s baking by the end of next week.

They’ve been training alot so he’s tired, does that mean Jones has had them in every day whilst Bruce has been away.
If they trained properly all the time he wouldn’t be tired. It’s called building your fitness levels up.

Jail I did wonder that myself, apparently they reckon Ashley had spies at the protest meeting. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ashley has already done a deal with the Premier league and got his compo. Come the 27th there’ll be an announcement saying CAT does not have jurisdiction over the Premier league.

He definitely has a spy at the protest meetings, they say it doesn’t bother him, of course they do, just that everyone who could be bothered to do anything have had the fight knocked out of them by club maneuvering but more importantly by the apathy of those prepared to do nowt.

Not sure how long you’ve been reading but you might have seen me mention the Leicester game where about 60% of the crowd defiantly sat down as the others stood up singing an anti Ashley song. People will say, well singing songs at him won’t make him sell up! No it won’t, what it would have done though is shown him and more importantly us, that we had a united fan base who’d had enough. Instead it done the opposite and showed him that 60% of fans were happy with their cheap tickets, his reaction was to sit there smirking with two fingers up on his cheek.

I think the joint statement by Ashley and the Premier league saying arbitration had been delayed till early 2022 is them saying we’ve done a deal. Whether the club ever gets sold is anyone’s guess.

Why could Rafa not have stayed in that backwater dump called China that only has 4000 years of rich cultural history so we didn’t have to read stories of his new players saying how much things have improved etc 😕

Jail been reading the blog for a fair few years now and noticed you had mentioned that. Ashley and Charnley will have been having a right laugh at that one. Not on the same scale but when I’ve been to a match the chant stand up if you love the Toon gets going and a load of people just stay sat down, it just makes me angry.

Cat Jurisdiction Hearing put back 2 days to 29th, which isn’t a surprise as the EPL’s Lawyers Bird & Birds tactic in all legal cases is delay delay delay.

Arbitration is used when there is a dispute between the EPL and a member club but the Cat Case isn’t there to solve a dispute, it’s running simply because of the existence of a Cartel which is a criminal offence in the UK and also due to the collusion of other clubs to prevent the takeover.

    Delay Delay Delay….Corruption

Well spotted the CAT jurisdiction hearing date being 29th.

I’t must’ve been initially listed for the week commencing 27 September and subsequently updated when 29th agreed between the parties, and confirmed.

Presumably the court’s estimated two days for that hearing and then we’ll need to wait some days to hear the verdict – to allow time for the judge to sober up!

    Jail, TTB

Froggy’s been banging on ad nauseum about the likelihood of Bishop plants on here.

He’s ridiculed for suggesting such, but what better way to dispirit fans that than to ‘talk’ to them direct, sicken them.

I think Bob and potentially 1 or 2 other posters have made comments about the CAT jurisdiction hearing not being allowed to be appealed. Do we know if that’s definitely true? Apologies Bob if it wasn’t you who suggested that and i’m misremembering.

Hopefully that’s the case so after the 29th we at least know if a CAT case is even going ahead or not. If it can be appealed, no doubt it will be by the league if it goes our way, or appealed by us if it goes their way. The whole process has been going on for so long now, it would be a massive disappointment for the CAT case to be abruptly shut down by deciding they don’t have jurisdiction. I’m not sure how they could possibly decide that they don’t, so let’s hope they side with us on this one and no appeals are allowed.

Jail what would you prefer gates dropping, or a hostile atmosphere against Leeds ??

personally i’d prefer a full house and a very very hostile atmosphere against Leeds, and then the gate to collapse and let Bruce and his masters know exactly what we all think of them,,

Bob seemed confident that the Jurisdiction verdict was final, no appeal

Here’s an extract from CAT’s FAQ page…. but it doesn’t refer specifically to a type of hearing.

What’s noticeable is that it says that appeals are possible to another court – but any appeal needs to be permitted by CAT.

‘A further appeal lies from the Tribunal to the “appropriate court” only on a point of law or the amount of any penalty. This depends on which part of the United Kingdom the case concerns. The “appropriate court” will be:

‘in the case of Tribunal proceedings in England and Wales, the Court of Appeal;in the case of Tribunal proceedings in Scotland, the Inner House of the Court of Session; orin the case of Tribunal proceedings in Northern Ireland, the Court of Appeal of Northern Ireland.

‘A further appeal requires the permission of the Tribunal or the appropriate appellate court.’

Make what you will of it

Thanks Lesh, I tried looking at the CAT FAQ too but couldn’t find a definitive answer. There always seems to be a way of appealing decisions so i’m not holding my breathe, but am definitely hoping and keeping my fingers crossed that the jurisdiction hearing is final with no appeals. It sounds like it must be fairly rare for an appeal to be allowed by CAT in another court; can’t imagine many circumstances as to why they would allow that?

    On a different note:

Seeing comments from Charnley back when he was appointed MD and seeing what’s actually taken place is almost criminal. So many false promises and empty words.

Oh yes, Charmless has proved to be the perfect appointment by MA.

As far as CAT’s concerned, one’d hope that the EPL accept the decision if CAT judges that Ashley’s case can go ahead.

If you’re still writing that book, beware…

“Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with it is a toy then an amusement. Then it becomes a mistress, and then it becomes a master, and then it becomes a tyrant and, in the last stage, just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster and fling him to the public.”

I think it goes without saying if the CAT case is in favour of Mr Tubbs – the opposition will appeal.
Thus more months of delay ahead.

Technical matter – this is a tribunal and not a court.

As far as I am aware, the CAT case is open to an appeal process. However, the decision by CAT over their jurisdiction or otherwise to hear the case is not.

So, if they decide they have jurisdiction we move onto the actual case and hearing dates will be set etc. etc.

When we get to the actual case, whatever the tribunal decides can be appealed to higher courts in the same way as any legal process. So given Bird and Birds history we’ll be here an awful long time unless the PL get a kicking from the DCMS.

If CAT rule in favour of Nufc in the Jurisdiction hearing I expect the PL to fold like a pack of cards.

Not so much to do with potential dodgy goings on but due to their reputation.

Can any sporting body Continue with a anti competition ruling against them?

If the ruling body is seen to be against competition its opening a huge can of worms.

Can we strip the bin dippers Manure and citeh of their PL titles??.

Might sound a bit far fetched, but is it really???
