Newcastle And Other Affected Premier League Clubs Working To Have Player Bans Overturned

While we wait on an injury update from Steve Bruce on Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser, it appears that Miguel Almiron will not be available for the Manchester United match on Saturday.

The Northern Echo is reporting that Newcastle have been informed by FIFA that a ban is in place for Almiron after he was not released for international duty with Paraguay. Manchester United midfielder Fred has also been banned as he was not allowed to link up with the Brazilian squad for this international break.

Other Brazilians that are also unavailable this weekend are Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino, Fabinho, and Allison, Manchester City duo Ederson and Gabriel Jesus, Chelsea defender Thiago Silva, and Leeds attacker Raphinha.

Wolves forward Raul Jimenez (Mexico) and Watford defender Francisco Sierralta (Chile) are also set to miss this weekend’s games. Newcastle and their Premier League counterparts are working in concert to have the bans overturned.

Almiron has started Newcastle’s first three Premier League matches. If he remains ineligible this weekend, it is likely Sean Longstaff will get his second straight Premier League start. Jeff Hendrick could also be an option after his excellent performance in the Carabao Cup.

Steve Bruce will be without Jonjo Shelvey and Martin Dubravka, who continue their recovery from long-term injuries. Callum Wilson’s availability remains unknown after a thigh injury forced an early exit against Southampton.

The outlook for Ryan Fraser doesn’t look promising at all. The winger was withdrawn from the Scotland squad after suffering an injury in training. He was spotted on crutches with a protective boot on his right leg on Monday.

It could be good news on Karl Darlow, who has reportedly recovered from his bout with Covid and could be available on Saturday. Bruce didn’t risk Isaac Hayden or Paul Dummett against The Saints. The pair have had an additional two weeks to recover and should also be ready to go this weekend.

Can’t quite do the suv thing NY. Part of my problem changing cars is that there are very few that I like. I like a car to look well. I like the 5 series 2010 – 2016 model but also like the Mercedes E class 2016+. That said I’ll stick with the Mazda 6 for now as it’s great on the twisty stuff, great gearbox and looks well. And few long drives these days so no need for a posher car. Just hope no more faults.

    Nicky,
I’d play the same team as you. Ritchie has to make way for either Dummet who can defend at least, or preferably Lewis who has most the attributes to play wingback but has never really been given a chance in that role. I’d still give this formation more time as it worked previously and the players seem to prefer it. Although I still think 4231 would be our best bet. Manquillo/ Murphy are similar in quality but Manquillo can defend better and we have two tough games coming up so he’d just get the nod.

Do you really think Joelinton is the better all round player compared to Wilson? I think Wilson like Willock and Kane are all about goals, so if you take away the goals there’s not much left, which is the same for most strikers so It’s ok – providing they’re scoring. But Joelinton? I think I said when we got him, he’s no better than Joselu.

I think Wilson has been s a far more effective player for us than Joel ZG, and hugely important to us because he leads the line so well and scores goals, but yeah, I think Joel is the better pure footballer. A better manager would have gotten Joelinton going, not as a centre forward, but as a second striker or wide attacker, in my opinion.

We play a back 3 to get Shelvey in the 11, to minimize St Max as a defensive liability, and because we don’t have great pace at the back, but ideally you want a formation that allows you to play Joel, Almiron, Wilson and St Max in the run on side. That’d be where we’d have the most threat, but obviously you’ve then got concerns defensively. I think Rafa would get those 4 in the 11, and figure out a way to keep us tight at the back. Shelvey wouldn’t be starting, I’m sure of that.

I think this is a decent side.

    ………………………Dubravka.
    Manquillo…Lascelles….Fede…Dummett.
    ……………..Willock…….Longstaff.
    ……Almiron………St Max……….Joel.
    ……………………Wilson.

Maybe Shelvey in against the bottom half if Willock or Sean aren’t available, Hayden otherwise.

Not sure what people.on here see in Linton .. he’s slow, can’t dribble, can’t shoot, doesn’t assist goals and he’s generally a bit lazy. Although not his fault he’s always going to be labelled as a 40 million flop and at that price is probably Newcastle’s worst buy ever

Not sure where it started from, probably somebody said ‘they’d been told….’ and it got passed along on twitter and got some people talking. Think it’s because Ambani has ties with PIF also, his main company Reliance Industries hired Yasir-Al Rumayyan a few years ago apparently and PIF have invested in the company more than once. Tie that with the fact Mukesh Ambani’s brother tried to buy us in 2008, someone probably thought it’s an easy story that some could buy into. So I wouldn’t take much notice of it unless it starts getting reported at any point. Thought i’d just share it as a tongue in cheek sort of thing of trying to look for positives at the moment haha

Ashley could string this nonsense out for years by the way he could easily get an out of court settlement and say nothing about it!

Then the premier league could just keep delaying the arbitration every year with a new reason for delay.

All the time the club sits in limbo with the media compliant “oh well you wouldn’t do anything to your house if you are selling it” nonsense that we hear all the time

I think limbo will run it’s course and Mikey will get third time unlucky this season. It is abundantly clear that he prefers the thrill of a relegation battle over a mid place finish and you can only do that for so long before your time is up.

There is no-way Ashley could get an out of court settlement when the PL would not offer it, that would mean they accept they were in the wrong!

I am happy to wait until the end of the month for the CAT case to be reviewed.
We have waited years to see the back of Ashley hopefully it’s the start of the end game..

Plus, as this month moves on the pressure on the PL to concede in some way will only increase.

You wonder how long the arrogance will run for this season they like to pride themselves on the fact they don’t panic but if Bruce takes a spanking in the next 2 games with Watford and Palace games coming up you do wonder what they will do

I have said it before but we could easily be Sheffield United levels from last season except we are a lot worse defensively

Look at the awful run we went on last season until we had that mini revival thanks to Jones and Willock. I don’t think Ashley or Charnley will hit panic buttons at all, they’ll just think Bruce and the team can turn it around again at some point. The only way they would even consider changing things, would be if we get to January and we’re in the relegation zone by quite some distance. Or, if fans protests get to a point where the stadium regularly is only hitting something like 60% capacity. Other than that I don’t think Ashley, Charnley or Bruce for that matter will be worried in the slightest if we go on a bad run.

Didn’t know Ambani had worked with PIF previously. Interesting. There are so many ways PIF could have circumvented this deal, maybe this is one of them.
I’m going to take up the Mund positivity role. Ambani allegedly worth 90 Billion. I remember the story about his brother back in 2008. Something about his kid been in school and subject to abduction threats or whatever seemed to put paid to any takeover speculation back then. Maybe, just maybe. . . . . !

It’s funny how for years we always complained about our rubbish defense and then finally got a manager who fixed it. Oh well…!

Really does fully show Bruce’s appalling limitations when he can’t even coach the position he played.

Possibly although there is the backdrop now of Ashley publicly saying Bruce has had enough money spent on players

I feel all its going to take is for Bruce to publicly complain about transfers for it to go south his next few press conferences before and after games will make for interesting viewing probably better than the match to be fair!

If we get pumped on Saturday and he is smiling and joking with Ole then I hope the home fans give him full barrels a sea of cabbages against Leeds

Thing is yeah Bruce was a good defender but in an era where all he had to do was put his body on the line and mark his man

Fergie and his coaches did the rest of the organisation it was no coincidence they never really went for defenders like him after that was more cultured like Blanc and Stam guys with intelligence and quality

Its clear he hasn’t really learned much from working with Fergie apart from blaming everyone else for his failings

That’s an interesting view to look at the potential breakdown of Ashley and Bruces relationship. If Bruce came out and said a bad word about the transfer window, Ashley could get annoyed with that and think of cutting him loose if results are also going south. Fans could play a huge role this season more than results though I think, in terms of maybe getting rid of Bruce. Ashley showed he’ll stick by him even in horrendous runs of results. But if fans get to the point where they stop showing up in their thousands, with the ones that do go creating a very negative and hostile environment, that could make Ashley think twice.

    RH

I think PIF have invested in Reliance multiple times and with Yasir-Al Rumayyan hired to be a member on their board, it’s clear they have a good working relationship. Could be a fabricated story because they have a connection in more than one way and with the whole brother thing from way back. Or, could be a story with some legs looking at restructuring the deal one way or another. Just rumours as usual at the minute but there’s not much else to talk about at the minute, so may as well take part in some speculating haha

Surely the club released Miggy to play in the Internationals but it was the government restrictions on travel that prevented him from going to Paraguay.

FiFA need to challenge Government not NUFC and other clubs.

FIFA seem to be a despotic little clique trying to justify their existence.
Surely their awarding Qatar the World Cup
Is testament to them being the puppets of others, global brands, banks and governments.

    LCBP,
We have to look back at Mclaren in 2015, I think he even pencilled in the first ten games as write offs with his “the season starts after ten games” comments, it might even have been ten games before we beat Norwich, Rafa went ten games that time before we beat ??? with those two Rondon goals, so unfortunately I think we’d have to go a minimum of ten games before he pulled the trigger if at all. The way he seems to be treating the club at the minute looks like he just doesn’t care if we go down or not.
