Newcastle ‘Monitoring’ Norwegian International For Potential January Move – Report

Newcastle United released a ‘transfer update’ last week after failing to strengthen during the January window. The statement provided a detailed explanation of Joe Willock’s signing while also proclaiming ‘internal parties’ knew the club had little money to spend.

It has been suggested that part of the update was a message to Steve Bruce, who was reportedly upset the club refused to bring Hamza Choudhury in on loan from Leicester City on deadline day.

The ‘update’ served as little more than an attempt to justify an underwhelming window in which Newcastle were the only club not to strengthen from the back end of the previous campaign.

It did little to provide any hope for Newcastle fans that this January will be much different. While a lot will depend on where Newcastle sit in the league by the end of the year, it appears that there is going to be little money available in the winter window.

Newcastle do have both domestic loan slots available so if desperation arises, that is the likely route the club will take. However, we’ll still see links with big-money moves from time to time.

Football League World has kicked things off with an exclusive that Newcastle are monitoring Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge as a potential target in January. The Norwegian international is an interesting player who certainly would be a good addition to the Newcastle midfield.

The 23-year-old was a surprise addition when signing from Belgium’s Genk for over £20m in January of 2020. A severe hamstring injury curtailed his progress last season limiting him to just 16 appearances.

With Sheffield now relegated, Berge was linked with moves over the summer. Both Liverpool and Arsenal were credited with interest. Newcastle’s name even popped up briefly. While he does have a relegation release clause, his price tag is still more than Newcastle could ‘afford’ this past summer.

So unless a change of heart happens at the top at Newcastle, Berge seems an unrealistic target as he’ll cost a significant fee. There’s little chance Sheffield would agree to a loan with a purchase option as the midfielder is still tied down until 2024.

The Blades have started life back in The Championship in dreadful fashion with just 2 points in their first five fixtures. Berge has started all five matches but contracted Covid 19 last week keeping him out of Norway’s World Cup qualifiers.

It seems unlikely at the moment that Newcastle will pursue Berge this winter considering this past transfer window. The more likely route will be another push to land Choudhury on loan and possibly another defender if we are well down the table come January. Such is life as a Newcastle fan.

    cleveleysbob.

You may be right about Kev V, i didn`t read everything he posted nor do i come on here as much as others do, but if opinions on this blog are what it is all about then imo he did get quite a bit of flak.
I chatted a few times with him and didn`t have an issue at all. Toney Baloney on the other hand.

Carltoon, if you want a real treat before you leave the Lakes. Go and have dinner at “Overwater Hall” (approx 5/6 miles from Keswick on Carlisle road). Costs a few bob, but it’s a fabulous place and the food is superb. https://www.overwaterhall.co.uk/ it’s quite close to Bassenthwaite.

WL, I know you take your good lady over to the Lakes from time to time, I highly recommend “the Overwater” (not to be confused with “Overlook”). I’ve had quite a few weekends there over the years, loved it. Avoid room 3 if you stay over it’s haunted – trust me! 😳

    Carltoon,

Not sure where you are based but if you fancy a drive before you go try Tarn Hows near Coniston. It`s a 2.5 mile walk, of which 1.5 mile of it is uphill through a woody slope, you can also drive to the top if you prefer.
The views are superb , the lake at the top is 1.5 mile in circumference , so not too long.
There is a big car park at the top so like i say , if you don`t fancy a hike …….

Clevely’s Bob…….. I ‘m not havin that like. Kevin Vegan and Tony Baloney were controversial and argumentative without question but the blog without a bit of controversy is a boring platform.
I’m not here to argue with you on this matter as you’d definitely come second anyway so don’t bother to waste your time replying on this matter.
If you feel that you really want to take this further then we can meet for a straightener anytime you want if you’ve got the cojones.

I heard about the girl falling into the gorge, i hope she is ok.

Anyway, regarding that walk, there is nothing spoiling, you have probably had enough walking so maybe you could give it a look in the future, you won`t be disappointed.

My vie on The Vegan. He refused to believe the Saudi takeover was real and wanted evidence. Even when every media outlet was reporting it and Staveley made statements he just want having it. Then the plastic people from Singapore with their picture with Obama. He was all over that one – gave it loads of credibility, and w know how that went. Personally I think he hated the human rights aspect of Saudis and that was his hidden agenda. He got found out and didn’t like it. He also had previous on other blogs and had threats on other sites. Just one of those decisive characters. Oh and there was a certain amount of hounding too, but he could give it out too. Best he left me thinks.

Welcome to how the Americas will stage “European Super Soccer” in the near future. Coming to a stadium like Old Trafford soon.
Imagine with ‘Kiss cam’ with Bruce. Apologies for spoiling your tea and those dining out on lobster !

    Tennis.
Raducanu has continued to break new ground at Flushing Meadows and there will be another new experience when she plays in the night session on Ashe for the first time.
Playing underneath the lights on the biggest tennis court on the world – which has a capacity of nearly 24,000 – is an experience like no other.

With exuberant fans enjoying the ‘mid-match’ entertainment – which usually includes music, dancing fans, celebrities being introduced to the crowd and ‘Kiss Cam’ at the changeovers – there is always a din of background noise in a crackling atmosphere.

Having published a squad list with Callum Wilson on twice, nufc media dept. have now corrected their mistake and included Woodman as fourth GK.
