Newcastle Name 25-Man Squad As Striker Is Missing From Training Images

Newcastle United have confirmed their 25-man squad for the first half of this Premier League campaign. As expected after the disappointing deadline day, Bruce has named four goalkeepers in the squad.

Here is the official 25-man squad Bruce has named:

1 Martin Dúbravka
2 Ciaran Clark
3 Paul Dummett
5 Fabian Schär
6 Jamaal Lascelles
7 Joelinton
8 Jonjo Shelvey
9 Callum Wilson
10 Allan Saint-Maximin
11 Matt Ritchie
12 Jamal Lewis
14 Isaac Hayden
16 Jeff Hendrick
17 Emil Krafth
18 Federico Fernández
19 Javier Manquillo
21 Ryan Fraser
23 Jacob Murphy
24 Miguel Almirón
26 Karl Darlow
27 Freddie Woodman
28 Joe Willock
29 Mark Gillespie
34 Dwight Gayle
36 Sean Longstaff

Newcastle can resubmit their squad in January where we’ll hopefully bring in some players at least on loan.

The club has also released images from today’s training session. The Magpies who were away on international duty (Emil Krafth, Jamal Lewis, Jeff Hendrick, and Fabian Schar) are back in training.

However, there is no Callum Wilson in any of the images. The statement released with the photographs simply said Steve Bruce would provide an update on the striker during Friday’s press conference for the Manchester United match. It looks like we’ll be without Callum on Saturday.

Karl Darlow, however, is back in training so should at least make the bench for Old Trafford. Elliot Anderson is also working his way back to full fitness after a hip problem sidelined him for the entirety of pre-season. The 18-year-old did not have to be registered in the 25-man squad.

So Bruce will likely be without Jonjo Shelvey, Martin Dubravka, and Wilson this weekend. Ryan Fraser has also suffered what looks to be a serious injury while training with Scotland. He was seen in a walking boot on Monday.

Tomorrow’s press conference should provide some insight into the severity of both Callum’s and Ryan’s injuries. However, it looks like we’ll be without some firepower against The Red Devils as Miguel Almiron could also be banned.

Poor Woodman, makes the NUFC squad list for just one more game. He will be thrown under the bus by Bruce and be suffering from PTSD until Xmas before being loaned out again in January.

Yeah Jail, not easy decisions that. Wilson is most likely injured, but that doesn’t mean Bruce won’t play him…

I don’t think I’ll own a single Man City attacker this year. KDB and Foden back soon means more rotation.

He’s a massive player, best of all time maybe, and you know, when you put him against our boys it’s going to be a tough, tough battle. Really difficult.

We haven’t had the money they’ve had available. We’ve got to work with the little that we have and hope its enough to keep us in this league.

With a bit of luck we can keep it respectable, keep our heads held high, dust ourselves off and go again next week.

Mentally, we’re already preparing for a difficult match against a really strong Leeds side. Another massive club who’ve strengthened this summer and have a very good coach. But with Callum struggling with an injury it’s going to be a really big ask for our lads.

Wilson listed twice in the squad list.
    Bruce is a tactical genious.

He knows that his team set up is based on us playing one bad half and one good half of a match.

He plays Wilson v1 in the first half and Wilson v2 in the second half.

That way reducing the risk of injury and each Wilson has fresh legs for their 45minute run out.

Bonus is that the officials can’t tell the difference with the half time switch over so it’s not a substitution, saving other substitutes for game saving appearances at 89, 90 and 91 minutes.

    All hail Bruce

“92 games and a 30.4% win percentage for Bruce. Other than Graham Potter, there’s not manager who’s been at their club since 2019/20 season with a worse win record.”

Don’t let Bruce (the excuse) palm off the terrible football on the lack of incoming players.

Mister Tuff, how many games Bruce played the game to Joelinton’s strength? A handful? I can’t remember five to be honest.

Every time I see the same scenario. He holds the ball with his back towards the goal and only 1 or 2 Newcastle players around him.

If he have the option to feed Almiron between the channel, link midfield with ASM and Wilson or cut back the ball to Willock. That’s what he does at Hoffenheim. Newcastle will have a happier and 100% better Joelinton.
