Newcastle Concede In Extra Time To Enter Break 1-0 Down At Old Trafford

Newcastle held strong to keep Manchester United at bay but a late goal from Cristiano Ronaldo handed the hosts a 1-0 lead at halftime. The Red Devils had the bulk of possession and outshot The Magpies by a ratio of over 2-1 but clear-cut chances were at a minimum for both sides until the late strike.

Newcastle started in a 5-4-1 with a back three of Hayden, Lascelles, and Clark. Manquillo and Ritchie were the wing-backs with Longstaff and Willock in the midfield. Almiron was on the right with Joelinton on the left. Saint-Maximin was alone upfront.

The hosts came out of the gate with the lion’s share of possession as expected. Newcastle did get a decent chance through Joelinton in the 7th minute. The Brazilian collected the ball down the left and drove into the box but his tame effort was pulled wide of the goal.

Newcastle held strong defensively with Freddie Woodman not having to make a save in the first 20 minutes. Man United came very close as Raphael Varane’s glancing header drifted just wide of the far post. The defender was left unmarked in the box for the corner kick.

Newcastle continued to frustrate Manchester United defensively. The lads kept their shape and prevented any clear-cut opportunities. The hosts applied continual pressure with Newcastle pegged deep. We did offer a threat on the counter but struggled with the final ball.

The referee added two minutes of added time to close the half. It ended up punishing Newcastle as Ronaldo put the hosts ahead in the 47th minute. Freddie Woodman failed to gather a low shot from Mason Greenwood and Ronaldo pounced on the loose ball to give The Red Devils a 1-0 lead just before the break.

Saint-Maximin is an idiot for staying at NUFC so long, he’s transitioning into Atsu with the poor coaching, terrible conditioning and lack of confidence playing in such an environment.

Shay Given might have been short, but he was stocky, had man sized hands, great spring and amazing reflexes.

    No comparison.

    Shola,

Aye, Woodman doesn’t seem to react or cover the ground quick enough. Time for a rest now Darlow is fit.

Some players did alright today. Ritchie, Manquillo, Sean (though quite a few mistakes too), ASM, and MOM Almiron. Joel had some good touches too.

A game which brought us no shame at all. The two Portuguese are out of this world, no secret.

Though it’s a good performance today.

But we are on 1 point in 4 games. And our next few matches I can’t see much points.

It’s doubtful we will get to 20 points by Christmas.

Good performance only gets you so far. We need the points now.

    yeah, more quality from manchester.

we do need to rethink more substitutions early or reassessing fitness levels.

We have got a striker that can’t score a goal.

Newcastle played quite well for some period.

The Scored was not justified. 4-1

we have the same defenders as under Benitez and we always concede shed loads now …black and white proof at how people regress under Bruce

I didn’t even think Man Utd were that good. Played casually, didn’t close our defenders down on the ball.

Oh well, another painful match day over and done with. Catch you all at the next one. Time for a drink, and a double at that!

    Loud chants

Having done so well to get back into the game at 1-1, #nufc have fallen apart here. Not the first time that’s happened this season, either. Chants of ‘We want Brucie out’ getting louder and louder from the away end.

Steve Bruce must be sacked now. Can’t play Lascelles and Clark ahead of Schar and Fernandez. Lewis at fault for the last goal. Murphy looked ok when he came on.

I think but for a few goalkeeping errors, we’ve done well today.
The difference at the end was the quality of their substitutions when we started to get tired. e.g. Lingard, van de Beek and Marsial compared to Hendrick and Murphy

Back to boycotting football after watching that for the one-off event of Ronaldo’s PL return.

I encourage everybody to do the same.

Bobbybee! That was the dolts name I couldn’t recall earlier, who said Woodman is class and going to be Newcastle and England’s no1.

Woodman needs more experience. Saw that he did a few exception saves during the previous game.

This goal conceded was not OK. Through between his legs. It was a shame for a Goalkeeper.

He was facing an old CR7 and properly too excited and nervous.

Not that bad the scoreline looks like a tanking but I think we played OK
Got to remember who we were playing are probably either going to win the league or be very close,if the team play like that for the rest of the season we’ll be safe, just safe nothing more exciting than that unfortunately.
And manure will probably spank a lot of teams this year ,and although it looks bad on paper it was no spanking
