Newcastle Collapse Late To Suffer 4-1 Defeat At Manchester United

Newcastle put in a valiant effort until collapsing late at Old Trafford. Manchester United found their stride in the second half as The Magpies continue their poor start with a 4-1 defeat. A goal from Javier Manquillo made it interesting for a few minutes but the hosts grabbed three goals in the second half to seal all three points.

Steve Bruce made no changes for the second half after trailing 1-0 at the break. The lads started brightly offering a threat on the counter.

Newcastle found the leveler through an unlikely source in Javier Manquillo in the 56th minute. Almiron started the break with some superb dribbling. He found Saint-Maximin who laid it off for Manquillo in the box. The Spaniard provided an excellent finish for his first goal as a Magpie to make it 1-1.

It took just over 5 minutes for Man United to answer. It was another goal from Ronaldo in which Woodman should have done better. Luke Shaw surged up the pitch playing Ronaldo into the box. He took a touch before firing a shot that went through Woodman’s legs to give the hosts a 2-1 advantage.

Newcastle came close in the 67th minute. Ritchie received a pass from Joelinton on the left. He played it back to the Brazilian who showed strength to keep upright in the box. His shot was punched over the bar by De Gea for a corner.

Bruce made his first change in the 77th minute. It was an attacking one with Jacob Murphy coming on for Javier Manquillo, who put in an excellent shift down the right flank.

Bruno Fernandes made it 3-1 with a beautiful strike in the 80th minute. It started with a superb kick from De Gea to release Mason Greenwood. He was pushed wide but played it to Pogba who found Fernandes outside the box. Newcastle’s fatigue showed as they failed to close him down resulting in his long-range effort that sailed into the top corner.

Jamal Lewis came on for Ciaran Clark soon after the goal. A few minutes later it was Jeff Hendrick on for Willock. Both changes were straight swaps with Lewis on the left side of that back three and Hendrick into the midfield.

The changes did little to affect the outcome. Newcastle were out of gas and unable to mount any late comeback. Jesse Lingard added a goal in stoppage time to make it another lopsided result.

It was a decent effort for around 75 minutes. However, that is little consolation as we have just 1 point and have conceded 12 goals in our four matches. We now are only above Norwich in table as the slide continues.

Bruce won’t walk as he gets nowt for doing so and won’t work again at this level.

Then there’s the matter of three other coaches.

If he waits to be sacked he gets millions and retires to be a Sky pundit.

    Its up to Ashley.

Charnley is as complicit as Bruce in our debacle of a season. For not pushing back on Ashley. I hope they all crash and burn.

Yeah Lochinvar and our Club Captain was apparently pleading with Ronaldo for his shirt. Was he thinking he could sell it on Ebay for megabucks and use the proceeds to improve our sadly depleted squad. Perhaps that’s our only option left but we’ll be down by Christmas so just blood the kids. If they rise to the occasion Mash can sell them for profit.
ASM will be gone in the January window for sure.

This is awful, I have lost joy of watching football. I’m forty and and watched Newcastle since nineties and entertainers. Ashley has ruined it and I want him and Bruce out.

Stopped watching when the game was 3-1. Woodman is not good enough, but little did he have support from our defence. Conceded most goals in league and it does not look good.

Loch, he might if it gets too hostile. There seems to be a lot of talk on twitter about disrupting the game. I think he’ll walk. Far from him saying he has never walked, he has a few times, his last job for a start, and Hull. I’m sure a few more. Christ he doesn’t need the money.

Why would Mash sack him now? It would cost him money. There are no respected managers out there that would work for him. Would you?And there are certainly no magicians who could turn this shower round. They are simply not good enough . Basically because the Club has suffered 14 years from lack of investment and ambition.

I watched the 1st half of the match today on tv as i can get all premier league saturday matches on my system backed up by vpn, to be honest i predicted a 5-0 defeat, they actually played ok despite Bruce, at the end of the day not one of our players would get into their team, we might be in the same division as them, but they are light years ahead of us, on the negative side i really dont rate young Freddie Woodman.

If the takeover is so far down the road and both parties want it to happen. Then “Just Do It!” The Premier League would then have to come out and say that The Saudis are no fit and proper to own and run a football club. At least then we get transparency . It passes me off that no-one can be straight and honest these days. Traditional values are a thing of the past , sadly never to return.

Magicmac . Just how many of our players would actually get a start in any other Premiership Club. Perhaps ASM and Wilson (and he’s a sick note) . Even the player we paid £25M for could get into Arsenal’s side.
Quite honestly the players must be passed off too, so much so that ASM will be off in January.

The curse on Mayo continues, beat again today in another final, thats about 10 finals in my lifetime ive seen them lose, Colin Murray the tv presenter expertly explains the story in this little video, there is still two players from the 1951 team still alive.

Arriving at Old Trafford today I was expecting the worst. I was actually surprised at the teams response today. ManU were not at their best, but they are packed full of class players. We gave them a game, and if Wilson had been fit (an ongoing concern) we could have got something from the game. The keeper may be a problem. He was good most of the time, but he needs to obviously improve his handling of crosses and shots. The jury is out.

I listened on 5live. We were every bit as good as them except for 2 positions. Goal scoring and goal keeping. I’m not sure young Freddie has actually made a save yet this season, and without Wilson we are toothless in the box. I thought Gayle was given a new contract to be a goal scorer but stayed benched.

Newcastle were set up 5-4-1 most of the time and rarely ventured forward apart from the odd attack. ManU didn’t create any real chances in the first half. It was disappointing to go in 1-0 down at half time.
We attacked more in the second half but without Wilson in the middle it usually petered out. We had some really good situations but no one to finish them off. As usual ManU get a chance and finish it off. 4-1 flattered them.

Woodman is a shot blocker rather than a save maker. Even when stopping penalties, it is more a considered guess.

In Wilson’s absence it looked like a 343 really, with the ball, 541 without it, with St Max more through the middle, and Joel in support to the left and Miggy in support to the right.

Certainly I think St Max through the middle, is a better option for us than Joel or Gayle if Wilson isn’t fit.

4-1 is an ugly scoreline, but Man U had an amazing 11 out, and St Max, while brilliant in the final third, can drag the chain defensively as a number ten. Decent tactic I thought.

Also, if he wants more pace at the back, which is why he played Hayden back there I guess, he can also play Dummett, instead of Clark, and I’d play Lewis rather than Ritchie.

    This isn’t bad……..Woodman.
    ……….Almiron………Wilson………St Max.

The problem with St Max wider though is he doesn’t track back sufficiently well, thus we play him centrally where it hurts us less.

We gave it a go first half but without a recognised goalscorer in the side how are we supposed to compete. Joel nton had a couple of decent chances but does he ever look like a genuine goal threat?.. Does he hell as like. What a joke of an outfit Only real striker we have injured already and it’s only September.

Plenty of forward players in the squad said Brucie. What is this clown like pathetic excuse for a football manager doing at our club?.

All Bruce needs to say is that no one can be happy with the results of this season. But we can not afford to focus on the disappointment and negativity, and instead we me must clear away our doubts and concentrate on the positive aspects of our performance.
If he would rather get entangled in a to and fro slagging match, then he deserves what he gets. If he can manage the fans feeling due his own self importance, then things will only continue to go in one direction.
Whilst I have my doubts at his ability, he does not help himself by reacting

    Emma Raducanu or Steve Bruce?

Who would you take home to meet your Mam?

Who do you think your kids or grand kids should follow as a role model?

Who kept you on the edge of your seat during a major Cup competition?

    The list is endless.

Was time wasting by Woodman from the very first minute part of Bruce instruction?

If yes, that was f-ing pathetic. Got 2 minutes added time in the first half because of it and woodman screws up the save in added time of his own doing or Bruce instruction.

Bruce and his other steves are absolutely hopeless.
    And that includes grame Jones.

If Brucie left – who would step in. A decent manager would not consider working for Mr Tubbs – only others would be Allerdyce types/knackers long past their best. So no improvement on Brucie.

If Brucie in still here in January – might need players to keep us up – will Tubbs get the wallet out then – God knows.

We are in the crap this season – no doubt about it.

I just can’t believe the “manager”s reaction to the question on why he went on holiday over the international break…. “What was I supposed to do when I had six of them away?” Seriously????? Do the other 20 member of the squad not matter or want to gel together better. Maybe he should take some time to watch match footage or study up on some updated tactics since he says he doesn’t use them right now. Sounds like a perfect time to get a step up on anyone else who went on holiday but I bet there weren’t many other…but no one else probably has such a prolific team as we do where “six” of their players play at such a high level that they are gloriously selected to their national team while all the other players sit at home and gawk at them on the tube wishing they could only be that good. This guy is a joke. I tried to find Bruces page on this site but couldn’t seem to find it. https://www.coachesvoice.com/coach-watch-rafa-benitez-liverpool-newcastle/
