Newcastle Collapse Late To Suffer 4-1 Defeat At Manchester United

Newcastle put in a valiant effort until collapsing late at Old Trafford. Manchester United found their stride in the second half as The Magpies continue their poor start with a 4-1 defeat. A goal from Javier Manquillo made it interesting for a few minutes but the hosts grabbed three goals in the second half to seal all three points.

Steve Bruce made no changes for the second half after trailing 1-0 at the break. The lads started brightly offering a threat on the counter.

Newcastle found the leveler through an unlikely source in Javier Manquillo in the 56th minute. Almiron started the break with some superb dribbling. He found Saint-Maximin who laid it off for Manquillo in the box. The Spaniard provided an excellent finish for his first goal as a Magpie to make it 1-1.

It took just over 5 minutes for Man United to answer. It was another goal from Ronaldo in which Woodman should have done better. Luke Shaw surged up the pitch playing Ronaldo into the box. He took a touch before firing a shot that went through Woodman’s legs to give the hosts a 2-1 advantage.

Newcastle came close in the 67th minute. Ritchie received a pass from Joelinton on the left. He played it back to the Brazilian who showed strength to keep upright in the box. His shot was punched over the bar by De Gea for a corner.

Bruce made his first change in the 77th minute. It was an attacking one with Jacob Murphy coming on for Javier Manquillo, who put in an excellent shift down the right flank.

Bruno Fernandes made it 3-1 with a beautiful strike in the 80th minute. It started with a superb kick from De Gea to release Mason Greenwood. He was pushed wide but played it to Pogba who found Fernandes outside the box. Newcastle’s fatigue showed as they failed to close him down resulting in his long-range effort that sailed into the top corner.

Jamal Lewis came on for Ciaran Clark soon after the goal. A few minutes later it was Jeff Hendrick on for Willock. Both changes were straight swaps with Lewis on the left side of that back three and Hendrick into the midfield.

The changes did little to affect the outcome. Newcastle were out of gas and unable to mount any late comeback. Jesse Lingard added a goal in stoppage time to make it another lopsided result.

It was a decent effort for around 75 minutes. However, that is little consolation as we have just 1 point and have conceded 12 goals in our four matches. We now are only above Norwich in table as the slide continues.

Have been watching the tour of Britain cycling the last few days. The guts and determination those cyclists is an inspiration to us all for very little gain for most of them and then you have premier league footballers making millions for being shite

It’s not so much that woodman is trying to waste time It’s that none of the players in the pitch are ready or moving to receive the ball. Goal kicks, goaltender throws, throw ins, goaltender kicks, we are never ready and our goalkeepers struggle trying to find someone to get the ball to.

No good blown’ up when confronted with totally legit questions?

We have top 6 gates, yet we are a rank ordinary EPL outfit year in year out, who under Bruce most often don’t seem particularly well prepared.

What does he expect? If anything the press have been soft on him.

The truth is the fans deserve better, and he’s taken a job he really shouldn’t have.

Correct me if I’m wrong. But from what I saw, 90% of the goals conceded so far in the season is due to the poor goalkeeping by Freddie Woodman. I don’t know why he started yesterday instead of Darlow.

And he’s still in a job he really shouldn’t have.

In principle, Ashley’s rightly made the point that after spending a supposed £160m on players under Bruce, he’d expect better from the them along which some of the pups signed under Rafa’s watch.

Ashley should also be asking questions about the terms some of them were offered thus making them impossible to move out.

Ashley’s clueless when it comes to the business of top level professional football and his recklessness beggars belief.

We can only assume that Darlow was considered to be either not fully fit or short of match practice.

I’d have thought that playing a relatively inexperienced Woodman at ManU was expecting too much of the lad.

However, such is life with the clowns running the club and its football.

If he comes he will immediately inherit the hatred for the departing Brucisaurus, who inherited the anger for previous Britosaurus managers we rescued from retirement or from sliding down the lower leagues.

If all our previous unpopular managers (the ones labelled dinosaurs) were so good where were they when we scopped them up? which teams did we fend off to get them? and which league are they in now?

We need to change the criteria for choosing managers and take a risk on someone with no prem experience (unless Biesla or Klopp apply). For this we will need a clued up DoF, not some fool naming celeb managers from years ago.

We need a clean slate. Not the last dinosaur on the merry go round. Allardyce will have fan protests from day one. I didnt want him 15 years ago but thought he deserved a chance once there, but he’s no longer anywhere near the level of Biesla, Rodgers, Frank, Potter, Hassenhutl, Tuchel, Klopp, or even Farke. He’s dining off low achievements in another era. But yes, he was always far better than Bruce. More intelligent than Bruce, and nowhere near as lazy. Ive said this a lot over the years, although not my choice, if Ashley insists on Brits with bags of experience, then Mowbray is the best bet.

ZG: We should realize Bielsa wouldn’t work for Ashley, nor would the other guys on your list. And do you seriously think NUFC fans are up to making any noise no matter what comes their way?

I’m guessing Ashley didn’t approve the last bit of transfer business under Bruce since he figured pumping more money with Bruce being in charge wouldn’t guarantee survival. Getting Fat Sam for three-quarters of a season would be a safer and cheaper option.

And, hopefully, salvation will come under a new owner sooner rather than later.

Here’s the problem from Charnleys perspective.

Ashley has told him the club can’t spend what it doesn’t have. That’s quite simple.

We haven’t generated much or any money.

Bruce and team will cost 5m to sack, and possibly another 5m to replace unless we go for a free.

Therefore, we can’t sack him unless we go for a free, and those guys (Sam, Hughes, etc) are almost as bad. Best keep the 5m.

    hibbit,
It’s unbelievable how the likes of ZG keep saying we should get a Bielsa or Frank type manager. What is it that they don’t get. Each and everyone of them would be hamstrung by our policy. Bruce, possibly the biggest patsy of them all has just made himself a victim of his own ‘success’, they spelled it out to him, a team that finished in the top six of the form league over however many games last year is good enough not to be relegated. That’s why he never spent under Rafa, he didn’t have to because he knew that he was capable of keeping us mid table without it. Why do people keep thinking that a decent manager wants to fight a continual relegation battle for Mike Ashley.

Bruce has to give up on Jo as a ST.

As others have said he never looks like scoring, hardly ever has, and into his third season he’s been given way more than enough game time.

Gayle will score from probably 1 in 3/4 chances whilst Jo’s record is literally probably 1 in 20 at best + he doesn’t get into the box anywhere near as often as he should.

Playing him wide is a cop out to his £40M fee, yes he looks better, but he could hardly look worse than being the main ST.

The other way is to go with ASM as the main ST, it might not be his best position, but he’ll create far more mayhem than Jo as we saw when he laid on the goal for Manq. ASM as a false CF with Willock playing as a 10 could work really well.

I still believe that with the squad we’ve got, even if Wilson is injured, that a decent manager could get a good attacking side that will stay up no problem.

But Bruce defo isn’t that manager.

If it cost £10M to get shot of Bruce and his team it will save £100M+ if we get relegated. He HAS to go.

Top managers won’t work for Ashley but NUFC is still a massive draw for younger managers and there will be plenty out there who would jump at the chance.

The problem is Charnley won’t have a clue who the best young ones are – that is the real issue in replacing Bruce.

If the story is to be believed, Ashley apologised to Sam for getting rid of him too soon last time.

You mean younger managers who wouldn’t be given a job anywhere else in the PL. We are a last chance saloon. Allardyce and Moyes turned us down, do you honestly believe that paying SHW £4M was the result of a carefully thought out decision. It was borne from desperation nothing else. That is the level of manager we can expect to attract.

I said Allardyce can’t compete like he once did because he’s miles behind Biesla, Klopp, Tuchel etc. Basically saying the quality is higher now, and tactics have moved on. Im not saying we should get them now as I know it’s not possible, although I did bang the drum for all those managers apart from Klopp and Potter way back when they would have been very easy to get. I mentioned Mowbray who is further down in quality because he is realistic.

There will be other managers out there now. That Jesse Marsch is likely to go on and do well as he’s been trained by Rangnick at one of the Red Bull teams. But I think someone got him this season. We just need to see which new managers have been exceeding expectations and playing nice football. Farke could have possibly been got when Norwich went down. He’s no world beater, but.seems smart, and has already achieved more than Bruce with two trophies.

Thought we did OK yesterday against a much superior (on paper) team. They will improve and give some teams a right hiding.

The score flattered them as overall it was probably a 55/45 game slightly in their favour and as a few have pointed out, with a finisher, we’d have scored a couple more.

Still hate MA and have no faith in Bruce’s team, but was encouraged by yesterdays overall performance. Changes have to be Darlow back, Dummet for Clark and give Lewis a run for Ritchie.

More like. Bruce “We prepared meticulously over the past 7 days”

Yeah right, a grand welcome for Ronaldo. Inviting Man utd to attack. Complete with red carpet.
