This is the team I predict Steve Bruce will name for this afternoon’s match at Manchester United. It has three changes from the draw against Southampton two weeks ago.
Callum Wilson is out with a thigh strain after a decent start to his campaign. Despite his two goals, Newcastle have just one point to show for it.
I see both Isaac Hayden and Paul Dummett returning from their recent injuries. Dummett hasn’t played this season but did start the final twelve matches to close the last campaign.
Bruce has four ruled out through injury with Karl Darlow and Elliot Anderson back in training. Darlow could be in contention for a starting place. Bruce also mentioned yesterday young Joe White could be in the squad.
The Red Devils will be missing Marcus Rashford and a few others but do have the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to soften the blow.
Newcastle United Injuries
Callum Wilson (thigh), Martin Dubravka (foot), Ryan Fraser (ankle), Jonjo Shelvey (calf)
Manchester United Injuries
Marcus Rashford (shoulder), Alex Telles (ankle), Scott McTominay (groin), Dean Henderson (COVID – late fitness test), Phil Jones (knee – late fitness test)
Our poll is as expected after a disappointing deadline day combined with the poor start to the season. Almost 90% of the close to 2,000 voters expect a defeat at Old Trafford. That is not surprising in the least.
All eyes will be on this match for Ronaldo’s return. Newcastle do have some extra motivation to impress. However, without Wilson along with a rickety defense, there is always the potential things could get really ugly this afternoon.
On the other hand, lads could rise to the occasion with Allan Saint-Maximin determined to put on a show. Hopefully, we can keep The Red Devils reined in and grab an unlikely result to spoil Ronaldo’s likely second debut at Old Trafford.

Looks like a police training exercise. Was in IKEA yesterday and there was an alarm went off, got talking to a couple outside and they said the same thing happened in Eldon Square on Thursday. I think the whole country is on terror alert and being put through exercises.

I see Fred I’d for Man u, I’d assume if its OK for him Almiron should be free to play.

Comment #12With Wilson out might you not play St Max up top, with Almiron in support up and back. Can St Max not come short, run in behind, get on the ball, draw fouls etc, probably yes. The rest of the side you can then have in more natural positions.

Comment #15I’m not an expert on foreign reg plates but a quick Google of it tells you you’re only allowed to use them for six months in the UK. Someone please explain why the footety foot a Saudi businessman would have his car shipped or flown here just to pick him up at the airport when anyone of his many UK based associates would lend him one of theirs.
Has anyone seen such a disorganised rabble of Hi vis vests in their lives. It’s clearly some kind of training exercise.

My first thought about the outriders was that you’d flown into Newcastle and there were no Metros running to Shields!

No, because that would show there wasn’t a car with Saudi reg plates, they weren’t outriders and that it was a police training exercise.

Just checked and you’re right about the use of foreign plates in the UK.
Doesn’t the US use its own US registered armoured vehicles when a president visits?
You never know, it could’ve been the Ruler of KSA en route to SJP to watch his new team play ManU.
Needless to say that the visit would’ve been organised by Charmless.

Comment #21But speaking on The Sports Desk podcast, Darlow added that “four or five” other Newcastle players remain unvaccinated “for hopefully genuine reasons”.
Darlow went to the Euro Finals unvaccinated.
Some five players remain unvacinated.
Hardly a shining endorsement for intelligent behaviour.

I’m surprised that the Club or any club for that matter, hasn’t leant on the unjabbed players to persuade them to take the vaccinations.

Comment #31FIFA “have done a deal” so that all 12 players their countries wanted suspended can play this weekend so Miggy is free to be picked. Bruce probably won’t know this yet so let’s wait to see what team he picks.
Have FIFA paid “compo” to the affected countries?
They like “incentivising” countries don’t they.

I don’t think 2 up top is working. Saint Max is better carrying the ball forward from the middle, same with Miggy.
Willock, Max, Miggy and Joelinton give us a nice attacking 4 with Murphy and Richie making it 6! Nice attacking football like it should be!
Prediction: Man U 0–5 Newcastle!!!!!!!!!!!

Counting down the days to the Leeds “protest”.
Unfortunately nobody appears to know anything about it apart from a select few.. who won’t tell anyone else.
So we’ll await the 2 minutes of “get out of our club chants”.. followed by 88 minutes of silence.
