Places Could Be Up For Grabs As Bruce Tries To Turn The Tide

Newcastle have a massive match against Leeds at St. James’ Park on Friday evening. The problem The Magpies could face is that it is also a very important fixture for Leeds, who likewise have yet to pick up their first win and have had struggled defensively.

According to The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, there was a dressing room inquest held after Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Manchester United. Poor defending was the primary topic of discussion.

Newcastle have conceded 12 goals over our first four matches, which is the most in the league so far. While the defending was better against The Red Devils early, it ended in another lopsided defeat with Newcastle just unable to prevent the opposition from hitting the back of the net.

Leeds have struggled at the back as well and share our -7 goal difference. Though they have had a more difficult start to the campaign with matches against Man United, Everton, and Liverpool.

Bruce will have some decisions to make as Lee Ryder suggests places could be up for grabs, especially at the back. We could see both Fabian Schar and Federico Fernandez recalled for Friday. Hopefully, Paul Dummett will be available after a calf injury has kept him on the sidelines since pre-season.

Karl Darlow could also get the nod over Freddie Woodman. Bruce may opt for Darlow’s experience after Freddie made a few mistakes on Saturday. He stepped up and accepted responsibility but it’s another area where a change could be made.

The Chronicle is also backing claims from The Athletic that Callum Wilson will not be risked until October with his thigh strain. This means he’ll miss our next two matches with Wolves on October 2nd being a potential date for his return. The Athletic reckon he may not be back until after the next international break ruling him out for the Wolves match as well.

We’ll also have to wait on news of Javier Manquillo, Joe Willock, and Ciaran Clark, who were all forced off with knocks at Old Trafford. Bruce could already be facing an injury crisis early in the campaign.

This season’s start has been calamitous. However, all it takes is a couple of wins to turn our fortunes around. Newcastle really need to find that first win quickly and the match on Friday is of growing importance.

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards is suggesting that Bruce’s position is not currently under threat. He is also calling on fans to not be so vocal in their displeasure with things on the pitch.

That may be wishful thinking as Friday’s match could get very ugly. Especially if Newcastle limp out of the gate like against Southampton. The lads really need a quick and positive start. That should be one of the many focus points in training this week.

Why did Dwight Gayle not play? Was he not given a 3 year deal to come in when Wilson is tits up?

For some reason Steve Bruce will not play Dwight Gayle. Cannot understand the situation unless it’s the parasite not wanting Gayle to leave for free and Bruce doesn’t fancy him. A player on the books who might as well stay at home and count his money.

    bill,

Aye, could be Bruce wanted rid and someone else in, but the overlord said no and sanctioned a new contract. But Bruce not playing him coz he’s got a lip on has a detrimental effect. Gayle might have got something from the chances created against Manure

Remember in the Championship and Gayle scored both goals against Leeds away, looked like he was going to score everytime he got the ball, don’t think that will be happening on Friday night.

It’s still early nufc must take another hit from leeds then another and maybe one more and the trap door will open
And hopefully a new manager can figure out how to best utilize this group of players get some wins sell the dead wood in January and use what money is available to get some players in who will at least keep us out of the bottom three this will never happen under this loser and the more games he’s here the harder it will become for a new manager to do something about it
    Hound him out on Friday
    BRUCE OUT

Bruce is already blaming the Chronicle for the negativity of fans.

Sure as shit if it goes tits up Friday, the negativity from the fans is affecting the players will be ushered out.

    Never his fault.

Was he asked about why his standby striker who they gave a new 3 year contract to wasn’t played when his main striker was out? Although Maxi gave it his best shot it ain’t his position.

    United statement.
    Leeds United.

    The Leeds Chairman:

“Our goal is to maintain (our place. 9th ) in the league and, if we maintain the league, we can build on the foundation,” he told Sky Sports.

“We invested a lot in players last year and this season and I believe the club is going in the right direction to establish itself in the Premier League.

“The dream is to play in European nights in a bigger stadium in two or three – probably three – years.”

Here we are sitting comfortably in 19th, already having grabbed the magic point. What are people complaining aboot? This is the classic NUFC start to the season under Ashley. No fit and decent striker you say? Absolutely! Strikers cost money! A doofus for a keeper who wouldn’t get vaccinated? Classic! An idiot for a manager who actually blames the press for the team’s performance! What do you expect, Brucie to take the blame on himself or the feckless owner or both? Come on lads this is wor club under Ashley. Learn to bask in the utter failure as I have.

Well said Essex. That’s classic NUFC thinking! Maximize wor gimps! Load up the treatment room. It won’t take Gayle long to get injured either. This has the makings of a truly disastrous season. Get oot there and sell the club Mikey. Phone up all your rich friends (what’s that you say, you don’t have any?), beg, plead, wheedle and whine!

Thinking about it the injuries could be part of Big Mikes cunning plans to get maximum experience for treating injuries for when the NHS becomes totally private.

All of the High street shops will become SD health centres, you gotta admire his foresight and recognition of a stupid and gullible normal bunch of citizens!
