Bruce Calls Up Young Forward To First-Team Training

With Callum Wilson likely ruled out until next month due to a thigh strain, Steve Bruce has drafted Dylan Stephenson to train with the senior squad according to The Chronicle. The 18-year-old has been on fire for the U23s so far this season with 5 goals in 5 appearances.

His exploits put him on the shortlist for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for August. He scored 5 goals in 3 August league starts. Other youngsters in contention are:

Aston Villa’s Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal’s Omari Giraud-Hutchinson, Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, Chelsea’s Harvey Vale, Manchester City’s James McAtee, Norwich’s Jonathan Tomkinson, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Dilan Markanday.

Stephenson joins both Elliot Anderson and Joe White as 18-year-old’s involved in first-team training. The Geordie teenager was handed a professional deal earlier in the summer after an impressive campaign highlighted by a first-half hat-trick against Leeds in the FA Youth in April.

Dylan has primarily played striker in the early part of this season. He was often deployed on the right for the U18s, where he also managed to find the back of the net consistently.

Stephenson is another promising youngster who has risen through the Academy in recent years. Hopefully, his call-up to the senior squad will provide him with some valuable experience and help to accelerate his development.

It does make a mockery when fans won’t protest but will leave early if we are 3 or 4 goals down……..

    toon22,

    Sold that bridge yet?

Just read the Luke Edwards thread on twitter where he’s saying Bruce is better than Potter essentially.
Something not quite right about that fella, his need to champion Bruce just doesn’t seem healthy at all!

It’s just bizarre the turd wants the fans to shift him to save cash

For hell sake , can you not leave the fans alone, all you do is talk. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I’m just sick of getting the blame for something that isn’t the fans fault. For God sake do something constructive. Instead of the comp!été crap you serve up daily

Yes I thought there would be more PL related protests at West Ham game. I was there and fans were so pleased just be back inside SJP, together with us scoring early, deflected from all thoughts of our thwarted takeover. And window hadn’t shut. By Soton we knew the score on transfers. This Leeds game will be different as we’ve all had time to judge the transfer window. Utterly abysmal. And how Bruce has the team playing. Utterly abysmal. I think most now assume the takeover is dead and will no longer be strung along by Bishops antics. I’ll be there on Friday and will support the team, but will happily crucify Bruce, Charnley and Ashley. Ashley is the Gerald Ratner of football.

Not at all convinced Ashley wouldn’t sack Bruce. He does care about his investment after all. For sure Bruce has the til the break, but I really do think there will be a change if we can’t manage more than a point from the next three. Tony Pulis could be had for a song. So it’s not like it’s even necessarily a big financial hit.

The issue is that Ashley right now is happy with Bruce.

As long as Bruce is here, it dilutes the anti-ashley noise as most is focussed on the manager now so its easier for Tubbs.

Rafa was an issue as he had everyone on his side(barring the odd ones on this blog) so all the discontent was aimed at Ashley.

No matter what happens, i dont see Ashley sacking Bruce until after Xmas if it ever happens, i never thought about Bruce walking either as he knows its his last PL job but if the pressure gets too much then there is a chance he could.

Adam! It will be like everything else. Only those on twitter who know about it, and how many of them go to matches. ? If there’s a protest it will be spontaneous, once the chants start that’s when the crowd will take it up. That’s why I want fans to go and voice their disgust, what’s the point of calling me PR.

No reason why those of us inside SJP on Friday can’t support the team, and at the same get stuck into the PL, Ashley, Charnley and Bruce.
And if new prospective buyers are there, let them experience that warts and all. They’ll realise all they have to do to be successful is harness that passion for the club.

Why is everyone surprised? Our squad is always patched up in such a way that for a few matches a year our best 11 play. It is in those games that we score a few wins to be safe. Right now all we do is wait for our best 11 to return (Dummett, Wilson, GK, shelvey) and hope that others dont get injured. Till then Bruce is abused. All is forgotten when our best 11 is back and we get 2 or 3 wins. We dont really have a squad !!

Hopefully the crowd fully get behind each other so the noise can’t be ignored by Ashley, Bruce or Sky showing the game. If it’s loud and clear enough then the message will be well reported and impossible to gloss over and ignore. The plane thing seems a bit daft though and like you say it’ll probably just be a few fans from twitter who do it and it won’t even be noticed.

i was at the WH and really didn’t expect any mass protest,
i’ll be at the game on Friday and can see it kicking off big time, looking to forward his press conference on Thursday and can see a few journalist getting on his back and then on Friday i think sections of the crowd will be on his back from the KO with that just growing through the game depending on how he sets up and how we play,,
Time to let them just know how we feel,,

I think Bruce walking is the most probable short term upshot, but as Carltoon has mentioned, it depends on the level of vocal protest and the true feeling getting across by the majority.

I’ve also gone for the win on Friday, coz it’s just how I roll.

Leeds outside of the top 6 are possibly the worst team for us to play against as they will be on us straight away

Bruce has never in 20 years of management figured out how to play against teams like that

I could honestly see Bruce walking for health reasons if he doesn’t get the sack or walk soon. The amount of abuse and hate he gets his way, I don’t care how thick skinned you are, that eventually takes it’s toll on you. You only have to look at his recent outburst at the chronicle, didn’t even get asked particularly pressing or hard questions and he blew a fuse. I think it’s finally getting to him and the pressure is only going to increase and get worse. Can his health handle it or will he eventually be forced to walk away as it takes it’s toll?

Maybe so, but when he does post and especially lately, they are similar to what attention seeking itk’s post on there. He also regularly goes on Steve Wraiths podcast so i’d say he’s doing alright attention wise with that and twitter. I could be completely wrong, it just appears that way. One minute he says he can’t say much due to NDA’s, then the next he’s talking about new bidders, planes and a deal imminent. Seems attention grabbing behavior to me. Just how I read into it.

Like I say though, I think he doe a great job building a CAT case and credit to him for the work he put on and what he got done.

Bruce is obviously holding out for a payoff like he did last season

The Brighton away game where the players clearly downed tools to get him sacked should have been the end of him but then we went on a run to save his bacon!

That statement from the “club” last week was probably designed to try get Bruce to leave and get hounded out by the fans by saying he agreed to the transfer policy
