In an exclusive Friday night in The Sun, Amanda Staveley spoke about the dire need of upgrading the infrastructure at Newcastle United. She called the training ground ‘really awful’ while The Sun’s correspondent, Oscar Paul, added that many Championship clubs would be embarrassed by it.
Improving the training ground, something former manager Rafa Benitez implored Mike Ashley to do, is an area of utmost concern to the new board. That is something they can plan to address almost immediately though it will take time to complete.
The board can also draw up a list of January targets. Staveley said in her interview the club could soon attract world-class players. However, she tied that into improving the facilities, which will be a longer-term proposition.
For the next transfer window, Newcastle appear to be targeting players on expiring contracts with Premier League experience. Burnley defender James Tarkowski and Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard are two players Newcastle are targeting according to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards.
Edwards also reported that the new owners feel the squad is lacking in all areas of the pitch. He stated as many as five players could be added in January. That would cause some serious turnover with Newcastle’s squad already full.
While adding to the squad will have to wait until January and improving the training ground will take some time, an immediate change that could be coming is at manager. A few reports have claimed that Steve Bruce will be replaced before our next match against Tottenham in a week on Sunday.
There have been plenty of speculation as to who the next Magpie manager will be. Tucked away in Oscar Paul’s exclusive in The Sun was a blurb about Brighton manager Graham Potter. Paul stated that the 46-year-old is in the frame after impressing with Brighton this season.
The Seagulls are in 6th place in the league having only lost once all season. That was a 2-0 defeat at home to Rafa Benitez’s Everton. They also have won both of their Carabao Cup fixtures.
Potter has done extremely well at Brighton and could be one to watch. He plays a very attractive brand of football and could truly shine with an improved squad.
He has also worked his way up from obscurity having started his managerial career with Östersund, who were in the fourth tier of Swedish football when he was appointed.
It was Newcastle assistant coach Graeme Jones, a former teammate of Potter at Boston United, who recommended him to Östersund’s then-chairman Daniel Kindberg in 2010.
It paid massive dividends as Potter guided them up the leagues to Sweden’s first division, the Allsvenskan, for the first time in their history in 2015. They reached the Europa League in 2017 after winning a domestic cup.
His success in Sweden landed him at Swansea City in 2018 before he replaced Chris Hughton at Brighton a year later. He’s now reportedly being considered as the manager to get Newcastle’s revolution underway.

Comment #45Eddie Howe is just the next gen of mediocre English managers, he seems weak mentally and can’t organise a defence for toffee. Would make a mess of these circumstances. Get the impression he only wants to work on the South coast too.

Comment #52I wouldn’t want to gamble either and I think they will do all they can to work Rafa out…probably 50/50 at this point just because 3 months ago it would have been probably 99%. Just don’t want to see them gamble with Conte or Howe. Two different spectrums but still quite a gamble on either for the direction they seem to want.

Comment #58Rafa would have been ready made, perfect appointment, slot straight back in, particularly under the circumstances, where we need to sort it out at the back. But neither he nor the club would surely consider it now. Be utterly bad form all together, and not in Rafa’s nature, nor I think Stavely’s, who’s too smart for that. Rafa’s just way too honourable, to go to Everton, of all places, and then jump ship after two months, plus them blue nosed scousers’d burn his fecken house down and poison his dogs.

You’ll have to hope I’m successful in getting a ST when they go on sale, you simply won’t be able to get them. Even my mate who I went on the Leeds tickets with has told me his wife and daughter will start going more when he’s not home. We need to hope we can find a way to expand to 65K

Comment #73Anyone weary of the political correctness and non-football agendas that are becoming increasingly popular within football?
It is a truism that the premier league is replete with bang average players earning millions when your average brain surgeon earns less than £100k pa. So every football fan in the country has to agree it is already ‘fantasy football’ with unimaginable wages and transfer fees … £150 million for Harry Kane? How many hospitals would that build? At the end of the day it is just a game, or is it? So when we have Sport as the promoter of ‘new’ morality and pushing politics and various agendas what has happened to our own beautiful game?
Personally I don’t want to see LBGTQ rainbow flags or any other propaganda in St James Park including BLM, or statements from any group pushing non-football agendas on a match day. NUFC is our football club and it always has been all inclusive, for if you are a Black ‘n’ White then you have never been excluded.
The faux outrage at the Saudi takeover across the country? How many families and lives have been ruined by alcohol or gambling addictions? Yet how many teams were once sponsored by the same? One club has a Chairman who had a porn business. Tell me how many kids lives have been ruined through alcohol? How many kids in the UK will have been inadvertently affected by the policies of Saud Arabia, probably nearer zero. Yet the faux outrage is just laughable.
The Reuben family have a genealogy that is both Jewish and Iraq. We do not need a Party that thinks men have cervixes using NUFC to push their politics. Their leader wasn’t taught that in his Grammar school Biology class and we all know biological men don’t ever go into Labour! The party of weapons of Mass Destruction and invading a certain country and a party of anti-Semitism? Yet despite our MP getting involved, she now intertwines her labour politics forgetting all is not well. BTW I don’t vote Tory or Labour.
So my point? The rank hypocrisy of most football fans in general when greed and the love of money is the goal of virtually all owners. Fans thinking nothing of the likes of 40 million wasted on one particular player, when rattling cans for food banks?
Millions or Billions, it doesn’t compute anymore, it is like internet monopoly…a game in a virtual fantasy world.
The ever changing wind of politics is not for match day. Now that we have female match officials I am sure in 20 years we will have mixed male/female premiership teams. It is the new order and prevailing wind of faux politically correct equality. It is football, but not as we know it.
Anyone read Gavin Peacock’s autobiography and his chapter on the gospel? He has a co-authored book ‘What Does the Bible Teach about Transgenderism?’ and the story of a visitor every Xmas day to his home of a man who underwent gender reassignment after being influenced by transgender propaganda. He bitterly regrets that choice. Read it and you won’t want to see any promotion of transgenderism to your children. Neither on a flag at a football match.
Watching England we sing the national anthem ‘God save the queen’…imagine if the players bowed the knee in prayer before kick off? Why not, because there would be uproar despite our Christian heritage. Yet they bow the knee to political correctness.
Football is a game. It has become a religion to some, but to a small minority it is becoming a means to advertise certain agendas that are not football related. NUFC… it’s about football first and foremost; a football club and all are welcome to watch and be involved! When did it stop becoming a lovely game?

Comment #74I disagree Jail re getting a manager who is still employed. They tend to be employed if they are good and we want good, or better. I know what you mean regarding they have a relationship with their fans, but at the end of the day, this is a job/career and these opportunities for managers don’t come round often
