Steve Bruce has survived the first 48 hours of a new regime on Tyneside. However, it’s looking very likely that he’ll not last much longer. Even Bruce admitted as much in an exclusive interview with Luke Edwards after the takeover was announced saying:

“I want to continue, I’d like the chance to show the new owners what I can do, but you have to be realistic and they may well want a new manager to launch things for them.

“New owners normally want a new manager. I’ve been around long enough to understand that.”

While Amanda Staveley was tight-lipped on the 60-year-old’s future, she didn’t exactly give him a vote of confidence when mentioning that the squad was underperforming and should be nowhere near the relegation places in the table.

The Telegraph, as The Mail did on Friday, is reporting that Steve Bruce will soon be let go. The latest report says that Graeme Jones will take over as caretaker manager until a replacement is found.

If accurate, Bruce will be stuck on 999 games managed but will collect a very useful £8m in compensation. He can hold his head up high as he did keep Newcastle in the Premier League over two very tumultuous campaigns.

Graeme Jones will likely be on the touchline for Spurs next Sunday unless the board moves very swiftly to bring in a new manager. There is no shortage of managers being linked at the moment as the list swells by the day.

Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers and Rangers’ manager Steven Gerrard were touted as top candidates late on Thursday. Antonio Conte was also said to be high on the list though multiple reports stated he was not interested in a rebuild.

A few more names have since trickled in since. The Mirror has an exclusive that former Roma manager Paulo Fonseca (shown above) has been added to Newcastle’s list. The 48-year-old was moments away from becoming the next boss at Tottenham before they had a late change of heart and appointed Nuno Espirito Santo.

Fonseca plays an exciting brand of attacking football but doesn’t tend to last long in jobs. He’s already managed 9 clubs in 10 different spells since his playing days ended in 2005.

In addition to Roma, he’s managed some top clubs in his native Portugal including Porto and Braga. He also did very well at Shakhtar Donetsk which landed him the Roma job.

Another new name to crop up recently is Brighton’s Graham Potter. This comes from The Sun which simply states the 46-year-old has come into the frame after impressing with The Seagulls.

Potter has done well to keep Brighton in the Premier League since joining in 2019. They are flying this season in 6th in the table. It would be very interesting to see how Potter fares with better players. He previously managed Swansea City in The Championship and Ostersund in Sweden.

Another name that has been touted is former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe. He’s been available since The Cherries dropped into the Championship in 2020. He turned down a move to Celtic over the summer and would be a very popular choice on Tynesdie.

However, Football Insider is reporting that Howe will not push for the Newcastle job as he prefers to wait to see how Ralph Hasenhuttl continues to fare with Southampton. The Saints are struggling this season and the Austrian’s job could soon be in jeopardy.
