Steve Bruce and the players return to training today to prepare for the match against Tottenham next Sunday. It has been widely speculated that Steve Bruce will not be on the touchline for the match.
Numerous outlets are reporting that Steve Bruce is due to meet with the new owners this week. It is expected that he will be relieved of his duties with assistant coach Graeme Jones installed as the caretaker manager.
However, it may not be as cut and dry as is being reported. George Caulkin of The Athletic is reporting that the official line from the new owners is that a decision has not yet been made on Bruce’s future. However, Caulkin believes Bruce will be let go but probably not today.
Here is a tweet from Caulkin explaining what he’s hearing from St. James’ Park.
Newcastle’s new owners – a phrase which still takes some getting used to – will be back on Tyneside today. The team are training in the afternoon & the plan is to meet them. As of last night, line was “no decision” on Steve Bruce. I’m sure he’ll go but doubt it will be today.
— George Caulkin (@GeorgeCaulkin) October 11, 2021
The new owners are probably edging towards firing Bruce, as Caulkin asserts. However, these are professionals and will not want Bruce to hear of his sacking through the press.
There have been so many headlines over the weekend of his imminent sacking, so it has grown into an awkward situation. However, if Graeme Jones is to take charge of Spurs, the plan may be to wait a few days before letting Bruce go as the assistant coach generally plays a significant role in the training sessions.
There’s always the chance, albeit a slim one, that Bruce impresses in his meeting and they decide to give him a few games to turn it around. That would not be popular with a section of the fanbase who want a clean break from the Ashley era.
However, the players may be inspired to fight for their head coach and get some much-needed wins. It’s an unlikely scenario at this point, but we should find out what the new owners’ decision is in the next few days.

Comment #5wow, just wow, when i read on here the pure negativity towards our squad, it really shows how deluded a lot of you are.
if any good coach comes in, if he is good he will get a bounce and get the players playing better, our squad is not terrible, our tactics are terrible.
When SBR took over at about this stage, we were bottom, he brought the feel good factor and set the team up right, then the following season bought some pace then finished 3rd.
this squad with a the feel good factor is easily a mid table team

Comment #8Not deluded, just a worry we don’t get the points, we have an injury prone squad, you don’t have to call fans deluded! We need the right manager, SBR was fantastic but there’s not another Bobby is there.

The consortium are currently exploring options to buy out the remainder of Fun88 shirt sponsorship.
This is due to betting bans around Saudi Arabia meaning shirts will be produced with no sponsor for fans in Saudi Arabia #NUFC

Comment #13No booze. That’s never gonna work. Nothing to do on a flight but booze and wait impatiently for your next meal.
Once on a long haul flight from Sydney – Auckland – Buenos Aires I got lightly toasted and well fed 5 times, otherwise I would never have managed it.

Comment #14Bruce does not need any sympathy. Respectability from the club is not required. The new era can not start with that man on the sideline. Look no further than the current league position and do what is necessary.

Comment #17It’s ok for any fan to want Rafa back and I’m sure thousands would agree.
He understood the club like the greats of the past and stood for change and ambition.
That’s why many of us including me loved him and always will.
For me I think we should go elsewhere as that ship has sailed and he is now at the Toffees.
He will always be thought well of by the majority of the fanbase

On the other hand, a long haul flight on a “dry” aircraft means the plane is usually half-empty.

Irish, it’s because it’s illegal to have alcohol in KSA, so the planes don’t carry it, even BA don’t when going to or from Riyadh for example.
There are rumours that the new city they’re building will have alcohol in the 5* hotels and then that will flow out to the current 5* hotels too. The Ritz Carlton in Riyadh is amazing – but doesn’t have a booze license, the bars there only sell 0% alcohol beers and mocktails.

Comment #28Me personally I absolutely don’t hate Bruce but it’s impossible for me to believe he’s quite as nice a person outside of football as others suggest. I’m sure he’s a great friend to people and I’m sure he’s easy to get along with.
But some of his comments indicate to me he’s playing people and he’s a little more savvy and less dumb than people give him credit for.
He has on numerous occasions blamed the fans for HIS problems, he’s blamed the squad for HIS problems and his shortcomings, he’s famously thrown genuine people under the bus like Richie, who came out publicly and called him a coward which is literally unhead of.
He exudes misery and negativity all in an effort to preserve his own public image to the downfall of others.
He CONSTANTLY tries to use reverse psychology to get people to feel sorry for him, because he knows if he can get people to feel sorry for him he can continue to get poor results yet still keep his job.
Lastly while I understand its his right to stay in the club and not walk away, for somone who has as much money as him and for somone who says he loves the club he get up at, it really really feels like he’s more concerned with either collecting his money and or annoying the fans by staying on when he should have walked 9-10 months ago(let alone in the past month) for the good of his own childhood club.
Literally nothing about his actions tell me he’s a good man, and I think others are just being fooled by the persona he puts out and his way with words. Imo Bruce can be two faced and a snake when he needs to be and isn’t the man other Journalists are telling you he is.
Even now at this stage he’s more concerned about a stupid landmark that means absolutely nothing to ANYONE except him, than he is about the good of the club. He’s still trying to play with people’s emotions and looking for sympathy by saying how he’s glad his parents aren’t alive to read the stuff people are saying about him.
That’s why I don’t like him and why most of us don’t like him because we can see through his act a mile away.

Comment #31The only reason I can think of not to have fired Bruce already is they wanted to say it to his face. As far as I am aware training starts at 10am, hopefully the lads are out training with Jonesy and Bruce is in the headteachers office.
Rumours will circulate when they see him heading home at dinner time, with an announcement followed soon after. Hopefully.

Comment #33Lots of manager names flying around, I’m sticking with Potter for my preferred choice, has done well everywhere he’s been, gets teams playing good football, seems decent tactically and also seems to be able to motivate his players.
Potter, if not Rafa or Howe
I still think Conte, Maldini etc are the appointment after this one.
Potter and Rafa would have high compensation yes but we can afford it and Brighton can have Shelvey too if they want.
