The Newcastle U23s picked up a 4-0 win over Birmingham City in their Premier League Cup match on Monday evening. A trialist got the scoring started with a goal in the 8th minute. Elliot Anderson added two second-half goals while Dylan Stephenson continued his hot streak with his 8th goal of the season.
Jonjo Shelvey started the match and got 79 minutes under his belt before being replaced by Jack Young. Shelvey launched a long ball early in the match that the trialist was able to bring down and put into the back of the net for the opening goal.
After the match, Shelvey spoke to NUFC TV and was asked about his recovery from the injury that has sidelined him since the season’s opening match. Shelvey revealed that he hopes to be involved for Spurs on Sunday as he said the following:
“I just assume that we are going to sit down tomorrow and make a plan and hopefully be involved in some sort against Tottenham.
“I’ll recover tomorrow and then train again Wednesday. Go from there, I feel good. I’ve been working with a nutritionist off the pitch so things are looking good.”
Of course, Sunday is the first match of the new era at Newcastle United. Both the U23s and the Newcastle women have now picked up wins since the takeover was confirmed. Hopefully, the lads can follow suit on Sunday and pick up our first win of this campaign.
Shelvey was asked about the crazy past few days which has transformed the club. Of course, he thinks it’s massive for the fans. Jonjo also hopes to mark the grand occasion with a good performance in front of a sellout crowd at St. James’ Park.
“It’s been massive news for the fans and for the club. It’s terrific. All that matters now is Sunday.
“We’ve to really put a show on the fans. I’m sure they’ll be behind us as they usually are.
“I’ve heard it’s a sellout so I’m looking forward to hopefully playing a part in it.”

Comment #41i think Bruce should be given a match or two but will need to get points. i think it will show Amanda is being fair. if he doesn’t go on a good run there will have to be a change. i haven’t got a strong opinion but not Shearer, Keegan or Jones because that’s the wrong motive. it should be someone with a good pedigree and with recent experience but i can’t think who would be good.

Comment #46I’m not entirely sure either one of them will be there to be honest, but if they are I’d expect their presence to be quite low key. Basically sat in the stands, not in or even all that near the ownership group. I imagine they are quiet because they probably haven’t come to a definitive position on the takeover, and because they are such high profile figures.

I kinda toyed with the same thinking, but I came to the conclusion that Bruce in the dugout on Sunday was actually more detrimental than the actual result of the game.
I don’t hate the guy (as many do)….but his time is up.

Comment #50I reckon that TFG has exited the arena already that scenario with Jones and the lads in training spoke a thousand words and his body language when he was loading his car was one of resignation although it could be relief at being able to leave the job, money in pocket!
