Magpie Hopes To Be Involved Against Spurs After Run-out For The U23s

The Newcastle U23s picked up a 4-0 win over Birmingham City in their Premier League Cup match on Monday evening. A trialist got the scoring started with a goal in the 8th minute. Elliot Anderson added two second-half goals while Dylan Stephenson continued his hot streak with his 8th goal of the season.

Jonjo Shelvey started the match and got 79 minutes under his belt before being replaced by Jack Young. Shelvey launched a long ball early in the match that the trialist was able to bring down and put into the back of the net for the opening goal.

After the match, Shelvey spoke to NUFC TV and was asked about his recovery from the injury that has sidelined him since the season’s opening match. Shelvey revealed that he hopes to be involved for Spurs on Sunday as he said the following:

“I just assume that we are going to sit down tomorrow and make a plan and hopefully be involved in some sort against Tottenham.

“I’ll recover tomorrow and then train again Wednesday. Go from there, I feel good. I’ve been working with a nutritionist off the pitch so things are looking good.”

Of course, Sunday is the first match of the new era at Newcastle United. Both the U23s and the Newcastle women have now picked up wins since the takeover was confirmed. Hopefully, the lads can follow suit on Sunday and pick up our first win of this campaign.

Shelvey was asked about the crazy past few days which has transformed the club. Of course, he thinks it’s massive for the fans. Jonjo also hopes to mark the grand occasion with a good performance in front of a sellout crowd at St. James’ Park.

“It’s been massive news for the fans and for the club. It’s terrific. All that matters now is Sunday.

“We’ve to really put a show on the fans. I’m sure they’ll be behind us as they usually are.

“I’ve heard it’s a sellout so I’m looking forward to hopefully playing a part in it.”

Bruce should have already gone prior to takeover based on results – no reason to keep him at all now other than the fact it means sacking the whole coaching team that came with him…. Jones can’t do everything himself even if the Steve’s are useless

I didn’t “get” anything wrong with Rafa. Some of you put him beyond criticism and I disagreed, and more people agreed with that sentiment that was initially thought. I’m not saying he wasn’t hugely popular. So I got nothing “wrong”, just a difference OP opinion. Bruce was never a good choice but calling someone a “stain” on the clubs history when he didn’t even relegate us, says more about you, as Billson said.

The stain on our history is Ashley. Bruce was a bad manager, that’s about it.

    sparky55,
Even his post match thoughts are just inane soundbite clichés. You’ll hear Potter and even Smith explain how the opposition were getting in behind the lines or exposing the channels so they done this or that to change it around. ‘We’ll dust ourselves down” “The keeper never had a shot to save” week after week. That bit about the two false tens badly exposed his flaws.

I’m sorry but anyone saying Bruce should be in the dugout vs Spurs is clearly on the wind up.

There could be other reasons as such as not having the first clue about football! Or you are so out of touch from the club you can’t see what’s good or what’s bad for it. A possible mackem? Last but not least you are related to Bruce.

For me you haven’t got the first clue about football if you say Bruce should be given time.

New era, new dawn, new start.

I can’t wait for the time to come when Rafa isn’t mentioned again in an argumentative way.

I don’t understand why it still gets brought up now with the amazing news this last week.

I seem to be getting a ‘kicking’ for my soap comment but all I meant was they are not going to sack Bruce within the first 5 minutes of meeting him and the team (like they do in a soap). When it does happen it would probably be in a private meeting which could well have been later on yesterday or maybe even today.
As there has been no news yet I think I’ve been proved to be correct!

Also it seems illogical to call Bruce a dinosaur and then suggest replacing him with Keegan – a 70 year old who has been out the game for about 10 years.
I think Keegan should be honoured with something like an ambassadorial role but not as manager!

The amount of social media posts from folk who don’t support Newcastle or even watch us play saying that Bruce deserves an extended stay is unreal

“Bruce has done a great job considering he’s had no money to spend” eh Ashley has spent more money on Bruce than any other manager

“All the abuse he’s had to deal with from those deluded geordies” well this is exactly what Bruce thinks and has let the fans know what he thinks of them and the club so he can hardly complain when people bite back

I can’t wait till we can get rid of him so we also don’t have to listen to pundits say “well Bruce is my mate” before letting him off scot free for any decisions at the club

    Munster,
He never relegated the mackems either, they sacked him before he got the chance. There is no doubt he would have relegated us had this takeover not happened, making him the joint most relegated manager in history. Nope, along with his two bosses, Steve Bruce is a definite stain on our history.

Hope he is long gone and an amazing replacement in very soon, but wouldnt be surprised if a new manager is brought in by Friday and making all decisions and team talks, but he is still there on bench on Sunday if only for show, even though last thing we want to see, then new manager fully takes over from Monday. Mind rather have it like that and Jones in charge, but just wwouldnt be surprised

I think jones will take charge for sunday, maybe new manager in by next week but now I dont think it will be conte think they be looking for a longer term manager to be honest so that narrows it down, they need a top class DOF that is a must he will sort everything out that needs to be done quick for now until the season is over, staying in the league is a must but really I would accept relegation if it happens because I dont mind now, we have pif, pcp and the reubens they would soon sort that out if it happens

I must agree…we are giving far too much blog time and attention to our esteemed ex-manager (and I’m also guilty as charged)…he is 100% history, and quire rightly so…so let’s put that to bed shall we!

We should all be concentrating our minds on putting in writing our hopes and dreams, our player signing aspirations, our management team aspirations, our style of play (attack attack attack) aspirations :), we should continue to take the p1ss when appropriate (and inappropriate), and we should keep our collective sense of humour as we go on this ride of a life-time.

Let’s sun bath in this amazing opportunity…after 14 years of utter bollox we deserve it!

Martoon, it came across as arrogant and you referred to those who thought he would be sacked yesterday as deluded, that’s why I took umbrage to it. Not a single person suggested he would be sacked within 5 minutes of meeting the team and any comments about embarrassing him were surely said in jest.

I think some of you need to realise this is the real world and not a TV soap – Amanda is not going to sack Bruce in front of all the playing staff at the training ground within the first hour of meeting them all. If and when it happens he’ll be called to her office at SJP!

Pretty sure Ashley lied to KK. KK was not in just please fans, he talked about building a team to challenge. Think he single out James Miller as one of the key players for his vision. That’s why he quit, after they sold Miller without consulting him.

I don’t mind KK to manage Newcastle to safety. He may not have won many prestigious titles or cups but he is a entertaining and effective manager.

I am still unsure what happened yesterday, for all to see Bruce was not part of training, Amanda is seen walking around meeting the players – no Bruce anywhere.

I see someone has posted a very good theory, just dont come in tomorrow, you are no longer required but avoid the press – nice touch.

I was wondering whether he has been given an option of a severance payoff, less than reported or they just continue to pay his wages over the time of his remaining contract and have given him time to consider. PIF are massively wealthy but not stupid.

Just seemed odd no announcement but Bruce drove through the waiting press at the gates without stopping despite their attempts to speak to him.

We may find out today, but Bruce has gone – in my opinion.

See Wor Flags are asking for fans to wear just Black and White for the Spuds match, I think it’s a given 🙂

    Sorry but that is the commebt I am referring too. Let me try to explain;

‘Some of you’ = comes across as arrogant
‘Not living in the real world’ = deluded.

My comment this morning should have read inferred some fans were deluded not referred to them as deluded.

I’m sure it was unintentional and I don’t mean to make a big thing about it. Tone is very hard to comprehend when reading a blog. So I’ll take you for your word that you didn’t mean it in that way.

I think you’re 100% going to see Keegan on Sunday. Didn’t Downie say he’s in talks with the club and that they are trying very hard to get an interview from him.

Seems awfully like he can’t comment or engage because they’re planning something to me. You would have thought every news outline the country would habe tried contacting him by now, you can bet your house KK would have spoken to the press by now, UNLESS…. he can’t.

That’s probably the biggest clue they are keeping him for Sunday.

For the short term as Manager and long term whatever role he wants, I would have Keegan back.

He would raise the players by at least 25%, ask Rob Lee, he constantly states Keegan just made them feel unbeatable.

Jones is there, he can still coach, I think something is going on, short term possibly but today we may find out a bit more.

HOW GOOD IS THIS, WE HAVE OUR CLUB BACK !!!
