Steve Bruce has survived another day at Newcastle United as the clock ticks down to Sunday’s match against Spurs. The head coach’s future remains on life support but he has reportedly made a positive impression on the new owners.
In an exclusive in The Telegraph, Luke Edwards sheds some light on Bruce’s continuing presence with the club. The 60-year-old took training on Tuesday which reportedly was a surprise to some staff.
On Monday, Bruce met with members of the board and was impressed with the way he was received. They reportedly listened intently to what he had to say hoping to gain as much information on the club that could be gleaned.
This was also the approach the new owners are taking with Lee Charnley, who reportedly will remain on for a bit longer than initially anticipated. Charnley knows all the inner workings of the club and can be of immense help with the transition.
With the takeover happening unexpectedly last week, the new owners are taking advantage of the wealth of information that Bruce and Charnley are able to provide. This will help ensure the transition is as smooth as possible.
Edwards states that Bruce was commended for keeping Newcastle in the Premier League. The new owners also were pleased with his public stance on the takeover before and after its completion.
Bruce has been told that no final decision has been made and that more dialogue will take place in the immediate future. However, it is still believed that Bruce will be let go later this week.
The Northern Echo has added that the consortium prefer to have a replacement identified and ‘all-but-guaranteed’ before letting Bruce go. New non-executive chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan will have to greenlight a decision on Bruce’s future as well as his replacement.
The PIF governor is expected to be at St. James’ Park on Sunday. Edwards suspects the delay in a decision on Bruce could be due to Al-Rumayyan needing to be briefed on Monday’s meeting. Both The Telegraph and The Northern Echo still feel it is highly unlikely Bruce will remain on board by Sunday’s match against Spurs.

His results don’t impress.
The future lies elsewhere.

Everyone knows it’s coming which makes it all the more tedious to prolong it.

Comment #44I can only imagine the takeover happened relatively quickly and maybe caught some people off guard a bit. So that the new owners didnāt have anyone lined up ready to come in immediately. Thatās the only thing I can think of as to why Bruce hasnāt gone yet. I still really hope he goes by Sunday. I think if he isnāt gone by Thursday then itās likely heāll be in the dugout sadly.

Comment #47Isn’t Webesday players day off day?
Seems logical that all three Steves go quietly then and with some recognition of job done in difficult circumstances.
We all thought Bruce was a holding Manager until the takeover was done.
, it just took much longer than we thought do he’s had a longer than expected run at it.
Thursday Friday Saturday clear for Jones to prepare the team along with help from U23 / keeper coaches.
Sunday, easy like Sunday morning

It’ll be such a shame that the celebrations will be dampened with him the dug out, the crowd, imo won’t be able to fully relax and celebrate while he’s there stinking the place out, like a pair of old kegs Ashley deliberately left in a desk drawer.

Comment #57Jusr a thought but I wonder if they’ve said to him, help prepare the team this week but then sit in the stands on Sunday and leave it to Jones in the dugout. That way he gets his 1000th game in effect but is away from the action.

Comment #58No chance, nobody would take that humiliation, and certainly not somebody as egotistical as Bruce.
With him apparently having his 1000th match special press conference suspended, hopefully he is gone tomorrow.

Comment #64So the arguments have started about Bruce
Nobody on here wants Bruce in charge
But let the new owners deal with things and if they stick with Bruce for now let’s trust them and get behind them I’m sure they won’t let us be relegated and act in time
We will survive and prosper

Comment #68It amazes me every time I hear a pundit or commentator say something along the lines of āitās never nice to talk about a manager losing his jobā
Aye, like heās now got to go on the rock n roll and have to rely on food banks to feed his kids. This lucky bugger is looking at, allegedly, an Ā£8m payout for being what one can only describe as āmediocre at bestā at his job. Me heart bleeds forrim.

When you are in the bottom two with the second worse GD and a fifth.66 games played then you are in a relegation battle, we are amongst the favourites to go down.

Comment #70We get Rangnick, then Lampard becomes much more of an agreeable possibility.
Lampard is happy to play young talent, did very well at Derby, has experience with good players and big expectations at Chelsea, and so with Rangnickās guidance to keep him on track, Iād be okay with it.
Anyway, a top DOF is priority number 1.

Comment #71The New owners , even if they just keep us competitive and have a real go in and around the top six, develope St james park or dare I hope for a new super stadium in the future and a new training complex .
Just the fact that Ashley has gone is enough for me
Owned us for all the wrong reasons and took our club away from the supporters and our region for 14 long years and all in order to promote his main priority Sports Direct.
Shocking when it sinks in that he owned us for selfish reasons and did not give a damn about communicating with the people who love Newcastle United and who kept investing through thick and mostly thin.
He was disrespectful.

Agreed, with the bookies we are one of the favorites to go down (currently).
But, for me the relegation battle starts with about 8 games to go (weāre not there yet and we donāt know what the future holds)
Ergo, for me – weāre not in a relegation battle
Itās only my opinion and you are quite free to disagree with me.
