Report – Bruce Has Impressed New Owners But Still Likely To Be Replaced

Steve Bruce has survived another day at Newcastle United as the clock ticks down to Sunday’s match against Spurs. The head coach’s future remains on life support but he has reportedly made a positive impression on the new owners.

In an exclusive in The Telegraph, Luke Edwards sheds some light on Bruce’s continuing presence with the club. The 60-year-old took training on Tuesday which reportedly was a surprise to some staff.

On Monday, Bruce met with members of the board and was impressed with the way he was received. They reportedly listened intently to what he had to say hoping to gain as much information on the club that could be gleaned.

This was also the approach the new owners are taking with Lee Charnley, who reportedly will remain on for a bit longer than initially anticipated. Charnley knows all the inner workings of the club and can be of immense help with the transition.

With the takeover happening unexpectedly last week, the new owners are taking advantage of the wealth of information that Bruce and Charnley are able to provide. This will help ensure the transition is as smooth as possible.

Edwards states that Bruce was commended for keeping Newcastle in the Premier League. The new owners also were pleased with his public stance on the takeover before and after its completion.

Bruce has been told that no final decision has been made and that more dialogue will take place in the immediate future. However, it is still believed that Bruce will be let go later this week.

The Northern Echo has added that the consortium prefer to have a replacement identified and ‘all-but-guaranteed’ before letting Bruce go. New non-executive chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan will have to greenlight a decision on Bruce’s future as well as his replacement.

The PIF governor is expected to be at St. James’ Park on Sunday. Edwards suspects the delay in a decision on Bruce could be due to Al-Rumayyan needing to be briefed on Monday’s meeting. Both The Telegraph and The Northern Echo still feel it is highly unlikely Bruce will remain on board by Sunday’s match against Spurs.

I think even Ashley has had enough of Bruce. He suspected this sale would go through, so has been forced to keep Bruce. That message (done via media) to Bruce about the transfer kitty was barbed to say the least. 8m has kept Bruce in a job, I suspect if the TO had fell through they’d have sacked Bruce during that 21 game run. Bringing in a coach to help manage, then not allowing loans is hardly a show of confidence.

I want to see what a good manager, or Jones can get out this squad. Bruce says its purely down to which team has best players, meaning our players are rubbish not him. I’d like to see this disproved. Id also like to see if they go for a 4231 as I’d like and drop Shelvey, Clark and Ritchie. 3 at the back with Shelvey as a quarterback has held us back. Would a better manager agree?

    My team for Spurs

    Woodman
    Manquillo Lascelles Schar Lewis
    Hayden Longstaff
    Maximin Willock Almiron
    Wilson

That has always been our best team, and could be top ten easy, playing good football.

Almiron and Lewis would complement each other. Lewis can’t defend great but Almiron would help and vice versa.

    I like
    ……………………..Dubravka.
    Manquillo…Lascelles….Fede….Dummett
    …………..Willock……..Longstaff
    Miggy………….Maximin…………Joel
    ………………….Wilson.

    Darlow/Woodman
    Schar
    Lewis
    Hayden
    Shelvey
    Murphy
    Fraser
…….and I agree, if fit and well prepared then just about top ten form is on the cards, but the squad unfortunately lacks depth, balance and quality….and Bruce ain’t the best either.

I put Woodman and Lewis in as I assumed Dubravka was injured and totally forgot about Dummett.

It would be interesting to see Joelinton in this fornation as link up man. I’d replace Hayden with Willock as DM if I wanted to fit Big Joe in.

It would be the ultimate indictment of Bruce, if we went 4231 and Joelinton started playing like a 40m superstar. I’d be excited to see Almiron finally unleashed more than anything. He’s still my favourite player. It’s that grin that does it for me.

The question would surely have been asked with the same players what are you going to do differently Brucey that you haven’t already tried in 3 years?

Or is it because it was Ashley he couldn’t be bothered turning up for most of the week and we will now get dedicated front foot football?

The guys a bigger con man than Ashley

At the risk of sounding arrogant (sorry TinMan) I still think some of you are expecting drastic changes far too quickly. Amanda said herself they need to assess the business from top to bottom. So surely it makes sense to leave everything the same to start with until they have ‘their feet under the table’ and finished their assessment and then decide on the changes they are going to make including the manager and other key appointments. If you just start sacking people with no replacements lined up and no clear plan then the business could fall apart!

Has anybody heard Gini Wijnaldums comments???

    “I’m not completely happy”.

This comes after only playing 90 mins of football this season for PSG.

I know you lot are thinking what I’m thinking!!

Wijmaldam was half happy when he was with us: performed OK at home and tried to preserve his body for a potential end-of-season transfer. Signs of a mercenary.

Shadow_Shearer @131 – Yeah I heard that but in my opinion we should be trying to get younger players such as Jesse Lingard not older players slightly past their peak looking for a final pay day.

    “my opinion”

if your running a business that has an employee that has continually insulted the customers, the product, and the brand you let him go before he does anymore damage, sentiment doesn’t come into it,
Bruce being there is damaging the club he should have been replace long ago, on his record alone,

Unpopular opinion but I prefer Bruce and Jones to favre when it comes to escaping relegation trouble

The latter doesn’t even have premiership experience
Once we have secure premiership status, Bruce should be fired

As for lampard I’d almost anyone to him

My opinion is that if Bruce is given his 1000th game here he’ll be forever associated with us instead of Wigan, Hull, Huddersfield etc. It would be a real shame for him to be paraded in front of the world’s cameras.

Have slept on it and I wonder if the new owners are thinking that Bruce is due one of his lucky streaks?

Where he pulls off a little 2 or 3 wins in a row coupled with a few draws taking advantage of the new owner bounce

Just like when he took advantage of Jones coming in and then also Willock

Spurs is an immensely winnable game they are not that good at the moment dangerous up front of course but with the home crowd we could get beat them easily

So the other 19 clubs in the premier have had their meeting with the EPL, obviously Newcastle were not invited, well you can’t talk about someone or slag them off if they are sitting right there can you? The upshot of the meeting is that they were all told that the takeover was legitimate and that all aspects of the owners and directors test have been completed satisfactorily. The small clubs were alleged to have been laughing at the bigger clubs like Man U, Liverfool etc. after their whinging over the takeover. Guess I’m laughing at them too.

Surely with the 160M he was given, on top of the well drilled organised team he inherited, plus having Jones parachuted in to do what he couldn’t or wouldn’t do, keeping us up was the absolute very bare minimum bruce should have achieved. Laziest so and so we’ve ever had and given a king’s ransom for being so.

toonbrother @136: but Favre has lower tier experience if I’m not mistaken. However, since Bruce’s presence (or absence) wouldn’t count for much, we might as well let him continue assuming that doesn’t cause law and order problem.

    Martoon,
Lingard is an older player. He’d be 29 by January. These days due to the high intensity not many attack minded players are still EPL standard by 30. Most attackers seem to disappear between the ages of 28-30. The average age of our squad is over 28 so we are very lucky we got a takeover.

The Times have reported the reason for the delay in his sacking:

Amanda wants him gone, but they have had no greenlight from PIF yet. And PIF have to greenlight any significant changes.

Imagine Bruce being on the touch line against Spurs and Spurs go 1-0 up?

Having thousands of people from all parts of the gound singing “Sacked in the morning”, isn’t going to make for a good farewell / thousandth game / first game under new owners.

I’ll be gobsmacked if he isn’t gone by then
