Poll – How Will Newcastle Begin The New Era Against Tottenham On Sunday?

A new era at Newcastle United began last week with the belated arrival of our ambitious new owners. They’ve been a breath of fresh air compared to the outgoing regime.

We’ve already heard of their ambitious plans to turn Newcastle United into one of the top clubs in the world. However, they have responsibly stressed that it will take a bit of patience to reach the pinnacle of our new journey.

There is plenty of work to be done in building Newcastle into a powerhouse but also in the interim. Newcastle’s dismal start have us in the relegation places and without a win this season.

The journey begins against Tottenham on Sunday at a sold-out St. James’ Park. The place will be absolutely rocking with hopefully more than a few Wor Flags waving. The atmosphere is going to out of this world.

It’s unknown at this point whether Steve Bruce will be on the touchline. He’s surprisingly still kept his position despite reports he would be let go with Graeme Jones taking over as caretaker manager. As of now, he remains the head coach.

On Monday, co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi met the players and coaching staff. They also took in the afternoon training session which the club released footage of.

The video confirmed that Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles, and Martin Dubravka were back in training. The status of the trio for Sunday is unknown but they are getting very close to a return.

Joe Willock has also shaken off the knock that forced an early exit at Wolves while Jonjo Shelvey got almost 80 minutes under his belt for the U23s last night. The vice-captain hopes to play some part on Sunday.

Spurs have had a tepid start to life under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo. However, they corrected a three-match slide in the league with a win at home over Aston Villa before the break. They are currently 8th in the Premier League.

I hope the whole occasion doesn’t get to the players and they collapse. Plus Spurs will use all of our hype to get an extra boost too. Hopefully the crowd will really give the lads a lift and make the difference.

What a shame such a positive occasion could quickly turn very sour if he’s in the dug out and we lose. Unless they they’re planning on giving him the send off he deserves 👿

It’s good fun trying to suss out what level of player we’ll be going for, will they make a statement in January or save that to the summer. There’ll be 3 or 4 good quality players coming in either way.

    Mbappe is certainly dreamland.

The likes of Coutinho, Alli, Ozil, Bailly, no thanks. I know we have money but for the wages, I hope we avoid these types of players

    Can’t decide on Lingard

Rice, Ward-Prowse, Tielemans, Tierney, Isak, Bellingham, Gravenbach, the german new star I keep forgetting the name of begins with W. Yes please

Kane I think City will go back in for.

Also heard them on TalkSport saying we need a whole new back 5, maybe yes but not straight away. Sign a quality centre back, that should help Lascelles push on again, if he doesn’t replace him or make him 3rd or 4th choice.

Rice and Tielemans are very high up my wishlist, Barella would be great too.

It’s nice to be talking about players, managers that we genuinely could sign, rather than thinking we might be able to get one player in on loan if we’re lucky.

Bruce still here, it`s not looking good for him to be gone before Sunday is it.
I don`t think there is any reason for him to be here tbh, Jones can run the show while the owners sort something out with a new coach and DOF.

I agree with others who think the atmos on Sunday will take a huge dive if Bruce is still here, it could turn nasty if we go behind.
Why risk spoiling a great day by having that clown chewing his guns on the sideline.

If they must be gracious, can they not announce that it will be Bruces last match and that he will be in the stand. Even if they have to make up some kind of ailment to excuse his presence from the side line, preferably covid and excuse him from the stadium. Jones must be in line to become interim manager for a bit whilst a DoF is sorted etc. so the sooner the better.

Ward-Prowse and Tarkowski would be my first 2 signings, wont cost shed loads, and one big statement signing to make the rest of football sit up.

I remember when KK came back. Was it Hull who beat us 1-0 at home in KKs first game. Balloon well and truly popped. So we need to temper our expectations. Let the owners see how good we can be as a home support, regardless of the result. Ie: no moronic booing. Just support the team. That’s our job now for the rest of the season, regardless of who’s in the dugout.

Nothing will be achieved by making Bruce an issue on Sunday if he survives til then

We need to be 100% committed to team and new owners

This is crowds first test of support for new owners so if he’s there just accept their decision and ignore him – he’s an irrelevance who shouldn’t be there but they will have their reasons

There can be no sentiment attached to Bruce and a 1000th Premietship match.

    It’s an irrelevance.

    Climbing Everest is an achievement.
Saving lives in the NHS is amazing.
Serving in our Armed Forces is dedication and duty.

More significant is handing over the baton to Jones for at least this match until new appointments are made.

I wonder if there is a clause that says he can be sacked for free, surely that would be after ten games and they wouldn’t pee about like that?

Jail as usual you are trying to make mischief and just like with Benitez, i have to keep explaining to you, when others simply understand. I was tolerant of Bruce, in the same way I wud give Mark Hughes a chance if we didnt have the Saudis and Ashley gave him the gig. Yes I gave him too much of the benefit of the doubt, largely because our players were better than his usual guys at Hull etc, but his and the teams performances didnt truly stink until last season ( Sheff Utd etc) . In fact the team kept pulling for him in the first with late goals and some solid results . I have no issue with my stance on Bruce. Ive wanted him out for some time, but I dont call him a stain, even if he is a plank and a chancer. . Completely happy with where I stand on him, ideally out by Sunday, but if not, well we will have to wait. Hope that clears the matter up, you;ve had both my position on Benitez and Bruce clarified ad nauseum now, to the detriment of the blog at times. You really need to shut up at this stage as you are boring as fk.

They obviously knew there’d be a pay off, was that part of negotiations or what. Such an undeserving manager to land such a windfall and a parting gift from Ashley for two years of brown nosing. Will the loan arranger keep his taxing job of sorting out half a dozen loans a year or might they get someone who’s even remotely qualified.

Owners are never, well rarely sentimental but could they be saying to Bruce, you get your 1000th game in management, then be on your way. A thanks for ticking things over under difficult circumstances now let us get a proper manager

We’ve got a tough run of games coming up, so the new manager does need to come in fairly quickly or we could be cut adrift. Southampton play Burnley, Watford, Leeds and Norwich in the next 5 ot 6 games, part of me thinks Southampton may go down this season.

Loch, the more it goes on , the more it looks like Amanda will give him the game on sunday, She’s probably trying to show the kind side etc. Surely they could have dispensed with him today. But they have inherited a mess. Do they sack all the Steves? Who helps Jones? If we chose a foreign DOF and he chooses a foreign manager, will that manager know much about the prem? We might better off with KK and Jones, the sooner the better.

Two days in a row now that Brucie has been strutting his stuff on the training pitch, pretending to be a propper coach.
The new owners need to sack him quick before he dies of a heart attack.
Think of the human rights abuse stories if that happens.
Brucies right to sit in his office drinking denied by the evil new owners who had the cheek to actually look and see what he’s actually up to.

I think it’s a DM CB Striker that will be targeted.

Maybe another 1 or 2 but can’t see us going OTT and spending £200m, I’d reckon half that at best.

Theres some decent players with 6 months on their contracts that would improve us hugely.

We should take benefit of those before blowing the budget.

    Box clever!

I’d really hoped Bruce wouldn’t be in the dugout by Sunday but if he is I’d agree; ignore him, he’s done. Let’s give our support to the team, enjoy the freedom from Ashley and just have a cracking day.

It’s not like he’s going to turn it around against Spurs and get until Jan/Summer to prove his worth.

I’m seriously hoping that if he is there, it’s literally just to give him his 1000th game buying some time for the new owners and that he’s no more than a figurehead with Jones setting out the team.

I’m trying to convince myself he’s said “let me get 1000 games and I’ll take the payout and go before the Palace game, no bother and no interviews.”

I’m sure there are enough out of work ex players with coaching badges who’d be more than happy to come in and help in the short term.
Or even those coaching at other parts of the club.
I don’t see any of the Steves offering much that cannot easily be replaced.
Munster, how are you at putting cones out? Can you carry three footballs like Brucie; two under one arm, one up the jumper.

OK. We’ll just forget about the running through brick walls, better training, more respect from the players and Ashley and a better style of football and put that down to a benefit of the doubt.

Win, lose or draw,.I don’t think the fans will mind. Wor flags back, new owners, but Bruce in the dugout detracts from that party atmosphere.
If he really is just here to take some of the heavy lifting off Jones, then he can stay away on Sunday or sit up in the stands (in a disguise).

    From Paddy Power:
“Lionel Messi fought back tears at a press conference this morning in which he confirmed he is leaving Paris Saint-Germain to join Newcastle United.

The 34-year-old bid farewell to his PSG teammates and Parisian officials in an emotional speech during which he spoke of his life-long admiration of Newcastle boss Steve Bruce.
My family and myself were convinced that we were going to stay in Paris. But unfortunately, today I am here to say Auf wiedersehen, pet’, the Argentine told Paddy Power News.

‘I was only 34 when I arrived here. And will leave after two months’ loyal service to the club’.

‘I never imagined having to say goodbye, then again, no one imagined anyone could pay me more than PSG could. So there you go’.
Newcastle United are expected to announce his signing in the next few hours. Asked about joining the Geordie outfit, Messi replied:

‘Ever since I was little boy, kicking a ball about the streets of Rosario, I’ve always dreamed of playing for Newcastle’.

‘I remember watching Temuri Ketsbaia lose the plot after scoring a last-minute winner and I said to my mother: ‘One day I will kick the sh*t out of the advertising hoardings at St James’ Park too, mama’.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner also spoke fondly of current Newcastle manager Steve Bruce.

‘Bruce is considered a genius in South America’, revealed Messi”

Did anyone else see some footballing professor geezer on sky today say the toon could technically spend 500 million in year 1 because of the allowed 5 year amortisation of players and the fact we’ve made profit in the last three years. We would then have to be careful what we spend in subsequent years, but as Man City did, they can then get a couple of big sponsorship deals to keep within FFP guidelines which will allow them to spend close to 80 million year in subsequent years.

    Mind boggling!

    Onwards and upwards!
