Rodgers To Newcastle Story Quickly ‘Killed’ By Leicester-Based Reporter

Sky Sports reported earlier today that Brendan Rodgers has become Newcastle’s number one target to take over when Steve Bruce is let go. The report comes from Sky Sports Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio.

Here is a report on Sky Sports with local journalist Keith Downie providing some more information.

Downie emphasizes in his report that the claim comes from Di Marzio and not from his sources. Looking at Di Marzio’s initial report it is very scant on details. The most prevalent one being that Rodgers has a €16m (£13.6m) release clause in his contract.

If you combine the cash to take Rodgers from Leicester with the close to £8m Newcastle would have to pay Bruce in compensation, it’s quite a large amount of money for this particular managerial swap.

It didn’t take long for someone to refute this breaking news. John Percy with the Telegraph has rebutted this claim and emphatically states that Rodgers has no desire to leave the King Power Stadium. His colleague Luke Edwards has vouched for Percy’s accuracy in his reporting.

Let’s be serious here it’s not like Edwards has a good track record with info.

He shot down the takeover on many occasions and also said PIF had walked and wouldn’t return.

    Hmmm

as i understand it PCP and the Reubens paid 10% each of the cost of buying the club and PIF paid 80%. did they get some legal documentation that shows how of the club each now owns?

Sorry Percy, don’t actually see you say anything about Rodgers saying this out loud.
    Sounds like your opinion only.

I sometimes return to the thought that if Everton were prepared to listen something like £16M or more f to buy out Rafa’s contract and made through proper channels before ever speaking to him would he consider it as not breaking his contract?

May seem like semantics but he was original choice and has fans backing so an honourable way of getting free of his obligations might be viable

As worth speculating on as all the other “lets put two and two together” ?

if we buy a player for say £30m will PCP and the Reubens have to contribute £3m each?

That’s not how it works Jane…Amanda and husband probably haven’t invested any money at all…they will have gotten shares for brokering the deal, and the Reubens will have put something other than money into the pot to get their 10%.

Yes there will be a shareholders agreement in place and yes that will be available for public consumption at some point in the near future via companies house or when the first set of accounts are published.

I’m not sure it would work that way. I’d liken it to if I went and bought 3% of the shares in google, I doubt I’d be expected to chip in 3% of the purchases they do. I’d imagine the reubens are in 10% of the initial purchase fee and likewise with PCP. PCP will handle the day to say running of the club along with Jamie Reuben and the funds will come from PIF. Could be wrong but that’s how I’d picture it.

PIF will deposit the cash into the business as and when it’s required….the Rueben’s and Staveleys won’t be contributing financially to any player or management or DOF recruitment.

Repost for your repost Magscar 😆

    Magscar,

I think Rafa must be seriously conflicted over this, but his principles won’t allow him to walk out on Everton as we all know. But if we go and buy him from the Everton owner now that’s got legs pal.
They must need a big wedge right about now for FFP?

Rodgers I would be surprised as he seems to be working well at Leicester and we’ll backed. I think our best bet is a manager out of work as it’s an easier and quicker transition. Wouldn’t any manager we get from someone else, be delayed whilst the club we get him from get someone lined up?

Could explain a delay in us getting someone I suppose, but I think it’ll be quicker to get in someone currently unemployed.

Still think Rodgers will be in charge by next week, why would he turn down a obscene wage packet with the prospect of having an astronomical amount of money to spend in next few windows. His head will get turned

    Uncertain

I do think it possible if improbable but for it to have legs would have to be done absolutely scrupulously and in complete secrecy to secure his release before he would give it any thought

Not to say would still be regarded by him as leaving his contract but he did leave Dalian I think after some deal done (?)

It’s actually a smart question from Jane
The purchase of assets such as new players needs to be funded somehow
They can be funded either by borrowing money or by injection of cash by owners
The latter would impact the club’s owners fund whixh may or may not dilute Amanda’s 10% stake if she doesn’t contribute to said purchase

Bit of wishful thinking i know but is buying out some one’s contract the same as that person breaking it?

That’s assuming he isn’t now totally commited to his Everton project and happy back home and our ship has unfortunately sailed

First we and press would hear of it would be as a done deal – no whispers if were to ever happen

    Magscar,

There’s come sound logic in it for sure. Everton sitting pretty in the league and big Duncan can easily stand up till they get a new manager in as he proved before Ancellotti.
Like you say it will have to be on the total downlow and the fee would be undisclosed because I think it would be rather large to take him from their owner.
Was Everton not one of the main whingers to the EPL at the meeting though?

Rodgers said he wouldn’t leave Celtic mid-season to join Leicester.

Leicester paid the compensation and he joined them in January.

If PIF want him, they pay £13.5 million compensation and he will come here.

But I still think they will appoint a DOF first, and the DOF will determine what manager they go for.

You can’t appoint the Manager first and then the DOF because it looks like undermining the manager. The DOF needs to be involved in the decision. It is how all proper clubs are run.

How about Keegan on a 6 month contract until the summer as Manager with Shearer as number 2. Both of them only there to get us to the summer. Then they move into ambassador roles.

Poch then joins us in the summer.

He is getting sacked this summer and was the consortium’s second choice behind Rafa.
