Rodgers To Newcastle Story Quickly ‘Killed’ By Leicester-Based Reporter

Sky Sports reported earlier today that Brendan Rodgers has become Newcastle’s number one target to take over when Steve Bruce is let go. The report comes from Sky Sports Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio.

Here is a report on Sky Sports with local journalist Keith Downie providing some more information.

Downie emphasizes in his report that the claim comes from Di Marzio and not from his sources. Looking at Di Marzio’s initial report it is very scant on details. The most prevalent one being that Rodgers has a €16m (£13.6m) release clause in his contract.

If you combine the cash to take Rodgers from Leicester with the close to £8m Newcastle would have to pay Bruce in compensation, it’s quite a large amount of money for this particular managerial swap.

It didn’t take long for someone to refute this breaking news. John Percy with the Telegraph has rebutted this claim and emphatically states that Rodgers has no desire to leave the King Power Stadium. His colleague Luke Edwards has vouched for Percy’s accuracy in his reporting.

On multiclub ownership, I’m almost certain red bull got it overturned with Salzburg and Liepzig with a court challenge… Could be wrong, must look into it. The Pozzo family own a Spanish club as well as Watford and Udinese I think

Tmw I’d say you’re bang on with that thought.

It’s almost certainly their payment for the 4 years work she put in, and to make sure she has an interest to make sure she stays focused on it.

It would only be that way if they created new shares which were made to bought at usually less than market rate by PIF to raise capital, diluting the rest of the shares held by everybody else, but all minority stakeholders have the right to first dibs on buying any new shares issued to prevent them from being squeezed out against their will.

There’s no indication any of this is going to happen and Saudis aren’t simply going to inject capital into their investment. It makes no sense to issue say £1bn worth of new shares, let’s say for a new stadium development in an asset you’ve just bought for £300m.

I imagine both PCP and Reubens intend to be here for 10+ years and the Saudis recognise the benefit they bring in making their investment grow and as I said, Saudi aren’t looking to make money from Newcastle United primarily.

    You’re view is overly simplistic.

    Lacselles,

That’s because Red Bull don’t have a controlling stake in Salzburg anymore, they are merely the sponsors.

UEFA’s rules still stand – clubs with the same controlling party cannot play in the same competition

Being in Liverpool Bay there’s a few Scousers on board, a few or quite humble about their teams success but there’s a few absolute gobshite’s. The lad I talk about more is still trying to pull the deluded tag out when I said it’s possible to win the league in five years time, the other said you won’t attract good players. I honestly think these footers don’t know what’s coming.

So kind FIFA to arrange the local “look and buy” market event for our new owners at the end next year – the Qatar WorldCup.

Sit back, stop second guessing and worrying.

We have no idea what the new management will do but it is so much better than suffering MA and I’m looking forward to the ride.

Hope has returned but success will take time.

It’s hard to be more clever than someone who is cleverer but the clever never make it clear or clearer on how clever they actually are.

Qatar World Cup pisses me off no end for a number of reasons.

Main one is because it’s the middle of the season, so we’re not going to get our first normal full season under new ownership now until 23/24.

Squad depth going to be more important than ever next season.

They better not go ahead with the WC/Euros every 2 years plans either. is there any latest on that, is it a realistic prospect? It’s a story I’ve only heard in passing and was surprised to hear Wenger is one of the people behind the idea, thought he had more sense than that.

Rodgers would never leave Leicester now. Has too much respect for their owners, and needs to rebuild his reputation after leaving Celtic in the lurch. Never good as a manager to get a reputation as a bolter. Just look at Bruce. Done it loads of times, just not with us!

Bruce never bolted from us, as nobody wanted him. How the hell was he on a 3 year rolling contract worth £8m!!
I don’t want Rodgers. Would rather have Graham Potter. Get him on a 3 year contract, with an option to renew after 2. If we are moving in the right direction he gets to leave head held high. If we are really moving quickly in the right direction tie him down to a longer contract. He is young, his team plays attractive football. Can he manage big egos? As I said on another post yesterday we need to sort out the Director of Football position first, then appoint a manager. May be an idea to let Jonesy run the team with support from Alan Shearer and KK.
