Report – Still No Certainty On Bruce’s Future As The Clock Ticks Down To Sunday

The uncertainty surrounding Steve Bruce’s position at Newcastle has continued to linger late into the week. The players have Thursday off so we could hear of a decision either way by then.

It seems doubtful Bruce will hold Friday’s press conference for Tottenham without some inclination of his immediate future. The delay could be down to the Saudis as two reports are claiming that the greenlight to sack Bruce is being held up on their end.

Late Wednesday, The Times’ Martin Hardy reported that Staveley is waiting for the go-ahead from chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan to relieve Bruce of his duties. However, the non-executive chairman has yet to make that call.

Luke Edwards in The Telegraph has expanded on this claim in his latest report. Edwards has added that some members of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund don’t see the wisdom in sacking Bruce without a replacement lined up.

Edwards still insists his sources are convinced Bruce will not be on the touchline for Tottenham on Sunday. However, Edwards concedes that due to the delay that proposition is no longer ‘beyond of the realms of possibility.’

It was, in fact, the Saudis who were very keen on relaying their gratitude to Bruce for keeping Newcastle up for the past two seasons. All members of the consortium have been impressed with the way Bruce has conducted himself in what are uncomfortable times for him personally.

How Will Newcastle Begin The New Era Against Tottenham On Sunday?

morning ladies and gents, cracking skyline outside, wonder if its ganna chuck it doon god knows

I can smell conspiracy, reading what the times said yesterday about having the dirt on them, I just wonder did the league along with the top 6 with also the refs as well did they want us relegated this season because am starting to read between the lines now and with fat boy not suing the league it might just start to get out the real truth and what they got up to, considering there should only be 3 parties involved in a takeover like the sellor the buyer and the league so why did the league let it be known when they all signed ndas it had nothing to do with the top 6 and when our takeover was complete the other 19 clubs think they had the right to stamp there authority on it when it has bugger all to do with them

they all wanted us relegated this season because it would have been a way to end the takeover all you have to do is question how the refs have conducted themselves on the playing field, refs get orders from the league, I am pointing the finger at man united, man city, arsenal, chelsea, liverpool and spurs here along with the league and bien sports who alone have there hands in many many pies including eufa and fifa, I reckon in the not to distant future the whole can of worms will be found out

But if we went for Lampard, he may need a coupe of seasons to learn his trade. Since we’re starving for anything tangible for 40-50 years, another 2 may not be too bad if Lampard came through. Unnecessary risk on the balance though, it seems to me.

Two lads at work bought ST’s at the start of the season (for some strange reason) if by law of averages on a two and two rotation they’ll miss half the games in a season. I’ve offered to go thirds on them. One lad is keen to recoup about £300 back for games he’ll miss, the other just seems to want to sell me ticket by ticket. Waiting on the decision :grittedteeth: emoji.

@84…that is interesting like…But it’s a 50-50 as to whether it’s because he’s not wanted and won’t be involved…or he definitely is going to be involved and has been told keep stum until Bruce is walked off the premises…WHICH HOPEFULLY IS TODAY!!!

    I think the latter! 🙂

We waited so long for this takeover and the consortium were proven to have only one target – NUFC!
I’m very happy for that reason to sit back and watch the future unfold in the knowledge that they want and are prepared to buy success!
I would prefer Bruce to be gone before Sunday, but if he isn’t and we lose, there will be critics saying we should have kept him on.
If he is still here Sunday, lose and he’s sacked, win and it’s well done and goodbye!

Duncan Castles has revealed why Bruce is still here. Ashley has screwed us that’s why:

“It is a problem that is derived from the way Ashley hired Bruce. He put him on a very unusual contract structure. It was described as an initial three-year contract, but it is actually a rolling contract where he remains in place, essentially indefinitely, until he is paid off by the club. This allowed Ashley to pay Bruce a relatively low salary for a Premier League manager, but in the contract there was a recission clause that meant that if Bruce was sacked, he was entitled to a compensation payment of around £8m. Ashley did this with the expectation of the club being sold. Therefore, he effectively allowed himself to hire a cheap manager with the cost of the contract being laid off to the next owners of the club.”

“They need to try and come to an agreement with Bruce on that compensation, and try to negotiate that down.”

For those complaining about Lampard and I can understand as not my first choice, but may be ok until end of season short term, but you never know, under a good DoF may turn out to be a great appointment

    Nonsense James

IMO it’s the fact you get rid of Bruce now the 3 of them go and that would leave us short in the coaching department. Before anyone comes back and says but the 3 Steve’s are useless and I would agree, losing 3 coaches including the manager will leave them short handed.

The takeover went through lightning speed and the consortium were not prepared for that so things will happen slowly for now until everything is in place.

@89…I can see the merit in the claim…with Ashley it’s always about the money…that could be why Ashley would never sack him…he wanted the 8m to be someone else’s problem!

but what I don’t understand is…with the scale of money being invested and the damage that could be done by keeping him involved…why don’t they just pay the money and let him walk…it will all pale into insignificance and perspective as soon we buy our first player on 150k a week costing 40 million.

Amanda…just pay him off and let’s move on!

I very highly doubt Bruce is still here due to a reluctance to pay him off. The fee to pay him off is relatively small compared to the money available.

Have seen a few reports today that it’s PIF holding up the sacking, as they don’t understand the logic in sacking him with no replacement in position. This could make more sense as they may see it from more of a business sense.

It’s not a complaint about new regime oe Blog just a recognition that it is taking time and that’s to be expected

The press / media are fuelling this but everyone needs to calm down a bit. The new owners have been in situ for all of a week!

They are going to do things their way – I sincerely doubt they want Bruce hanging around too long but likewise I am sure they want to be seen to be treating him with respect. If that means letting him get his 1,000th game as a manager I can see them doing that. Then Bruce and them can release a joint statement along the lines of “We have agreed it’s time for a change, the club is heading in a new direction but that would not be possible without the help of the manager, we thank him and wish him all the best in retirement.” – Bruce can then hang up his joggy bottoms and go hang out on TV with all his media lovies.

Short version, we need to have patience, things will happen when they can.

For the record, in order of preference:

    Conte
    Rogers (unlikely)
    Favre
    Potter
    Lampard
    Gerrard

Mund @91 – That’s what I’ve been saying for the last few days – you can’t just walk in and start sacking everybody without suitable replacements lined up otherwise you ruin the business. Hence why I keep saying not like they do in a TV soap but for some reason that’s perceived as being arrogant but in my eyes just realistic!

If Steve Cooper was still available, he would have been a good option as a manager, who has experience of the English Leagues and players and would be looking for the next step up. Unfortunately, he got hired by Nottingham Forest.

Maybe Ralf Rangnick as manager with a DoF of Luis Campos or Antero Henrique.

On the manager, I find it v weird KK isn’t talking, the fact sky tried to get him to do an interview and he still hasn’t done one tells me he’s been hushed up for some reason, it can only be contractual imo.

Why would they want him to not speak to the media if its only an ambassadorial role?

They are hardly bringing him back as an interm manager? Surely they wouldn’t be letting their hearts rule their heads here.

There is NO WAY Keegan will be coming in with anything to do with coaching or the players! He’s over 70 and probably doesn’t even follow EPL football closely.
He will definitely be recognised and become an ambassador at some point. Same with Shearer although they might give him an advisory role at some point.
I’m now thinking the hierarchy will give Bruce his 1000th game and quietly sack him next week.
Whatever they decide I’m supportive as we’ve waited a long time and another week or 2 won’t hurt!
    Patience lads, patience!

Moonraker you would think so tbf it sounds wild to put it mildly. But sky sports were in contact with him yet he still won’t do an interview, everyone under the dun has done an interview even Shearer.

Bit weird why he hasn’t it just looks like he’s not able to atm which can only be a contractual reason.

Al-Rumayyan is meant to be flying into Newcastle today , given PiF own 80% they will have the final.say on who is sacked and who is appointed and agree on any plan to move the club forward ( given that it’s actually going to be their money that will be spent ).
Looking likely Bruce will be here on Sunday .. bit disappointing as he, his staff and the players know they are dead men walking …
It never turns out well as staff and players half heartedly listen and have an eye on the next person coming in rather than the job at hand

Given his famous statement that one day we will get our club back…..I am sure something is happening.

Whether he is just at the match and walked onto the pitch or flown in by helicopter – who knows, but can’t see how Sky haven’t tracked him down.

I cant see new owners not wanting to literally showcase our club on Sunday.

Maybe they just want to surprise us with an ambassadorial role, maybe he hasn’t even been contacted and weirdly just doesn’t want to comment on it.

Typical Ashley, You have to laugh. He needed a manager willing to accept about 25-33% of an EPLs wages with the promise the rest will be paid when he gets laid off. So Ashley’s had the Saudis paying Bruce’s wages.

Spade a spade, Lampard would be a pretty poor choice given the type of clout NUFC now has.

As for Bruce, maybe Amanda is just being kind and giving him his 1000th game but keeping him on in any capacity would be a strange and stupid move. In view of the fact that he kept us up twice ( lower mid table) , then I guess he achieved the main part of his remit so give him the game and out. Makes PIF look a bit kind too. Id still rather see him finish up today, but thats not likely.

In fact, he might stay on for a few weeks if we dont get a new manager in.

And that really shouldnt be Lampard. At all.

Keegan may have misgivings about Saudi ownership. I don’t think he and Shearer are just going to jump on board. I imagine they’ll take a bit of time to figure out how they feel about it all. We are fans, all we want is good entertaining football, and we’ll support the club pretty much no matter what, but being a club ambassador, for this ownership, that might actually take a bit more squaring away, and longer conversations, for anyone with as high a public profile as those two.

Just thinking outside the box but what if (a big IF) the consortium actually think like a lot of football “experts” do that Bruce has done a good job?

To an outsider Bruce has kept us up with the shadow of a takeover and the bad atmosphere now what if all of a sudden because of the mood change they think he can suddenly do better?

Obviously I would hope he’s out the door today but you never know if that’s the thinking!
