It has been confirmed that Steve Bruce will take tomorrow’s press conference for Tottenham. The press briefing is scheduled for 1:30pm which is later than his usual 9:30pm slot.
Here is the confirmation from The Athletic’s Chris Waugh.
#NUFC confirm that Steve Bruce is set to face the media tomorrow. His press conference will be from 1.30pm, later than the usual 9.30am slot.
Still the potential for things to change but, as things stand, that is the plan…
— Chris Waugh (@ChrisDHWaugh) October 14, 2021
The decision on Bruce’s future has seemingly been delayed. There were reports over the past 24 hours that the delay is coming from the Saudis, who want a manager in place before letting Bruce go.
Scott Wilson in The Northern Echo has issued an update today. He is backing claims that Amanda Staveley and Jamie Reuben are waiting on the green light from Yasir al-Rumayyan to let Bruce go.
Both Staveley and Reuben want to part ways with Bruce as soon as possible with Graeme Jones seen as a viable option as caretaker manager while the search for a permanent replacement continues.
However, as reported last night in The Telegraph, the Saudis don’t see the wisdom in that approach. There is also the issue of Bruce’s £8m compensation package as well as which members of his staff will be retained.
This update on the press conference signals that a decision on Bruce’s future will not be made public today despite the players having the day off. It’s also looking more and more likely that Bruce will be in charge for Tottenham on Sunday.

Comment #41https://www.premierleague.com/managers/2197/Steve-Bruce/overview
Bruces Premier League stats:
Main points are 475 games, 133 wins, 132 draws and 210 losses.
Goals for 494
Goals against 651
meaning his goal difference is -157.
Whichever way his defenders want to paint the picture, the stats don’t lie and show he is not a premier league manager.

Comment #42If Bruce remains in charge on Sunday and Spurs don’t get a win, then Nuno has got to be favourite for next manager sacked.
Might be worth a punt

Comment #43I am not really surprised by Bruce still being around. While we all crave that shiny new toy the fact remains that we are in a fight to stay up this year, with the same players until at least the New Year.
I tend to agree with others that the likes of Conte et al have excelled when managing a team near the top, and have concerns over how a relegation scrap might evolve.
At least Bruce & Jones have experience in that respect and understand the players we have. As much as I hate to say it, it may be prudent to wait until we have at least a little wiggle room or the chance to bring new faces in.

Comment #44Theres a billion things to get excited for and its fun to think of the future of the club and Sunday will be the first time we get to hear from the new owners properly.
The anticipation and excitement around Sunday and the news we’ll hear has me certain I won’t give Bruce a second thought.
If Bruce is there Sunday look at it this way, He’ll never experience what we’re about to, he’s only getting a tiny taste of what’s to come.
We’re going to the stratosphere, he’s off for sausage rolls from Greggs.
Once he leaves you won’t give him a second thought, he left just a five last Thursday in my mind.
It’s like walking past your bitter ex whilst you’re with the woman of your dreams, smile and walk by.

Comment #46I hope the Saudis, after only one week, are not getting the impression that they’ve bought a club in which the fans will demand the dismissal of the current manager and that they will demand it happened yesterday.
We’re seven games into a thirty eight game season. Two weeks ago it was on the cards that Bruce would be here till January, and only if we were still looking like getting relegated, would he then be getting his marching orders.
FFS some of you give the new owners a bit of time to do things properly and in the way they want to do them, and if Bruce gets his 1000th. game – so what.

Comment #48I wish this was all over, I know I preached for patience yesterday, but all the will he or won’t he stuff + all the crap in the press is doing my head in.
It’s beginning to look like he’s going to get the chance to make the start of our resurrection “all about him” and his f***ing false 1,000th game, a bit like his false No10’s.
This will leave such a bad taste in my mouth and I suspect lots of others too. I really want him gone now, immediately, no delay, if I had the £8M I’d give him it myself, unfortunately I barely have £0.08p 😀
I’m seething that he’s going to get another presser. The only thing that save this situation for me is if he’s being allowed “to make a statement”. That is to say he’s leaving with immediate effect amicably and with his head high and sorry I’m not answering questions.
That, and only that would in my opinion justify him getting his face in front of cameras again as a representative of our great club that he’s spent over 2 years belittling!

Comment #49Afternoon lads, I have not posted anything since ages due to wanting Ashley out but finally now it’s happened Iv had to pinch myself more than once to believe it’s happened. Anyway now that Iv finally come around to believing it’s happened I can’t wait for Sunday!
Having said all that I know how Bruce was always an Ashley man, he would only do what any of us will do in his position which is to listen to the owner. His hands have always been tied whilst Ashley was there. Also he wasn’t given any financial backing etc and to be fair he’s had a terrible time with our top players being injured. So as much as I would love to have a better manager in place for Sunday I don’t think you can beat Bruce up over him being there on Sunday as any of us would love the opportunity of having a better boss in charge who will back us and have the same ambitions as us.
Also remember guys in the long run we will be getting better managers and players. But for now I don’t believe we should feel down or negative about Bruce being there on Sunday IF he is still there. We need to get fully behind the new owners on Sunday which means whoever they have selected to be in the dugout on Sunday. It’s just the beginning guys just the beginning. HWTL!

Comment #50Mag52, people have been calling for Bruce to be sacked since December last year.
Its not been a sudden change of mind because we’ve been taken over, we all wanted this months ago.

Comment #51If Bruce does get a win on Sunday just watch for his friends, former playing mates and buddy pundits predictably saying, “I told you that he would be a good manager under new owners” and pushing his claims for the permanent job.
No – we want this bloke out now. No reprieves. No second chances.

Comment #52Any argument that Bruce will help us stay up is stupid. One win in 15. He’s taking us down.
Its all a bit odd that hes not been bulleted straight away. Concerns me a touch. Was hoping to be cheering on a new touchline as well as team at the weekend. Bruce deserves no reflected glory based on crowd support for the new regime and team.
I do believe he will have a detrimental affect on the day to most in ground. Owners shud know this

Comment #53Once they have their man he’ll be gone.
I find it interesting they’ve been caught on the hop, especially as they were supposed to be having “secret talks” for “several weeks”.
I’m going to enjoy the ride, it may be a slow start but we’ve been broken down at the side of the road for 14 years, movement is movement!

Comment #54Best case scenario is this.
Bruce and Amanda have had the conversation and he is essentially now been made caretaker manager.
Tomorrow he makes that clear in the presser. “This is likely my last match. We’ve had the conversation and I’ve agreed to stay on whilst the new owners look for who they want to launch their new project. I’m excited to see what the future holds for the club and determined to get it off to a winning start on Sunday.”.
Amicable end, suits everybody involved and makes them look classy and dignified. Ensures a united front and a party atmosphere during the match regardless of scoreline. Shows the club has real leadership and up front communication now.
Would refocus get everybody motivated to smash Spurs.

Doubt they’re stringing him along and pretending he has a long-term future whilst looking for his replacement. Not necessary.

Comment #58The consortium – if they have taken an interest in the Toon for several years will be aware that the prevailing opinion of most fans is to get rid of Brucie.
Will they go against this well known opinion of Toon fans – NO.
Those suggesting otherwise really need to have a bit more awareness of what is going on.

Comment #65I believe as well that once they find their man that Bruce is gone and being this happened when it did their choices are now a little more limited or just not the right timing but in all of that they need to throw the fans a bone and just announce Rangnick as DOF already. 🙂

Comment #67Terry is a low-life scum bag with the morals of a sewer rat and none of the players or coaching staff would ever know if he was secretly trying to screw their wives…he’s bad news just like his porn star mother.
Keep the fcuker well away from our club
I’d take Lampard though depending on who would be supporting him and who the DOF was!

Comment #71So Bruce rides his “luck” again and……….. surprise, surprise the 2 “co owners” here have to wait while decisions are made by the holder of the purse strings. Bruce should have been gone a week ago but here we are in exactly the same predicament as before but with different owners. Only in Newcastle 🙂

Aye, confront the elephant in the room. No need to let things fester, be subject to rumour and secrecy, taking away from the football and occasion. That was what the last regime did.
Fully expect them to give him that respect and for him to be completely ok with the situation given his comments already.
Like I say it suits everybody and fans could take that if it’s made clear, the Bruce situation would fade into the background for Sunday and become immaterial. He gets his 1000th match and owners get another week with Yasir arriving today.

Comment #73Whats the bets, they keep Bruce for the Spurs match, we beat Spurs easily, and as a result Nuno gets sacked and because the second pl manager to be sacked this year and I loose my €500 return from a bet i placed last Wednesday just b4 the takeover that Bruce was going to be the second pl manager sacked.
It will be just luck. Lol

Comment #76Admittedly concerned by how aggro the blog is regarding Bruce still being here.
Do o rate him? Not a cent but I can appreciate the position of keeping him until a replacement is lined up.
There’s going to be a global spotlight on the spurs game. I really hope the fans aren’t going to be throwing the toys out of the pram a week after winning the lottery because that’s not a good look.
Trust the new owners.

Comment #78Fatha1969…if you had an open wish list containing anyone you like to manage the toon, no matter where they currently are or how much they’re being paid or whether or not they were actually available…Lampard probably wouldn’t feature very much.
if you were to make up a list of who’s available now and who could be stepping stone no 1 on our journey to the holy grail…then that’s a different list and one I guess he would feature on.
All depends on who would make up the team around him as well
