Newcastle At Crystal Palace – Team Prediction, Injuries, and Poll Result

Here is the team I am predicting Graeme Jones will name for this afternoon’s match at Crystal Palace. It has three changes from the defeat to Spurs.

This formation is a variation of the 4-3-3 that has been deployed in recent weeks. Though it harkens back to when Jones first arrived and a diamond formation was implemented against Everton.

Both Crystal Palace and Newcastle are close to having a full collection of players available. Graeme Jones indicated during his press conference that Martin Dubravka was close but today would be a bit too early for the goalkeeper.

Newcastle Injuries

Martin Dubravka (foot), Paul Dummett (calf)

Crystal Palace Injuries

Eberechi Eze (Achilles), Nathan Ferguson (Achilles)

Our Poll result is not too bad considering we are facing a Crystal Palace side that has played very well of late. While 46% expect Newcastle to pick up nothing today. A third of those who voted are predicting we pick up our first win of the campaign. That would be some moment for Graeme Jones.

Good morning my friend, iam so sorry to hear that news about your wife fella, keep your chin up lad, and its good news the prognossis is positive, thats really great to hear, with a fair wind your wife will make a full recovery and be back to normal health in the very near future lad. On a lighter note you obviously really enjoyed your 5 years living in Dublin, just to update you on the football front the two FAI cup semi finals were played last night, Saint Pats beat Dundalk 3-1, while Bohemians beat Waterford 1-0 to set up an all Dublin FAI Cup final. We have quite good attacking players relative to our league position. Wilson, Joelinton, Miggy, ASM, Fraser and then there’s Murphy and Gayle in the not so good category.
But in DM and defence we lack quality.
Willock for me has a great engine, goodish at carrying the ball forward, but his best attribute (well last season) was late runs into the box and goals. If he is used in that way, then he effectively becomes another forward.
I can see how Bruce with his level of football intelligence would just put favourites/best players in the team, which leads to an imbalance of qualties.

I’m guessing we’ll see a midfield diamond/split strikers formation. Possibly a 3 at the back variant. So the split strikers would be between ASM, Joelinton and Wilson (possibly Fraser and Miggy).

Tip of the diamond between Miggy, Joelinton, ASM, Willock.
It’s tough to choose the best players from what we’ve seen so far.
I would play Wilson and Joelinton as split strikers and bring ASM on with Wilson for the second half.
A fresh ASM against tiring players would be more effective IMO.

With regards British based managers, I’m kinda thinking any British manager with links to teams they used to play for, or relationships with owners, or DOF’s or whatever, I think the other Premiership teams are so much against us now that getting anyone on loan or even getting them to sell to us will be practically impossible…no-one will want to be seen to helping us on our way…so I think a foreign manager with a foreign DOF will be the way forward as foreign teams won’t care one bit w’ere the new threat on the block in the Prem…they’ll take our money and say good luck lads…whereas as the Premiership teams will go full hog in slowing down our progress as much as they can

    IMO

What I want to see today:-
Commitment, good pressing, at least 50% possession, organised defence, taking chances,3 points. Round pegs in round holes. 🙂

What I don’t want to see:-
Sloppy defending, hoofballs, stupid fouls, heads dropping, them waltzing through our midfield.

I think Jones should give up any thoughts of entertainment and go to that five at the back that the players seem more comfortable with.

According to sources Lampard thinks we’re relegation fodder and doesn’t want the managers job.
Rather misses the point doesn’t he ?

I would be tempted to play Fraser on the RW and Joelinton on the LW and ASM in his preferred CAM number 10 role. With Wilson up top as our ST.

Fraser who is an excellent crosser of the ball can whip the dangerous balls in to the box for Wilson.

Joelinton can cut inside and link play with ASM.

ASM has confessed to prefer playin as a number 10 as he can in any direction leaving the opposition guessing. He will be more of a threat from the middle and more involved than isolated on one wing.

Might get some flack for this but I’d take a loss today so long as we produce a much improved performance.

I say that because we’ve still got an awful long way to go this season and under a good management team I believe we have the smarts to finish mid table even without buying anyone in January.

Now Bruce is gone, we’ll get a tune out the squad for sure…so all I’m looking for is the new manager bounce handsome semblance of a plan that we can carry forward and start getting some results.

RH best wishes to your missus for a good recovery, it’s good to hear that the prognosis is optimistic.
With covid so many people may have missed out on an early diagnosis so as you said getting checked out is so important.

My Wife has found out that she has early stage lung cancer and again the prognosis is good but is was only by the vigilance of her GP the signs were spotted. It also helped getting an actual face to face appointment with him!

honest question, you say you thought Joelinton had a good game, in what way?

I personally felt sorry for him, i thought it was one worse games this season for the simple reason they kept blasting long balls up to him and his first touch is not good, he lost the ball a lot because it was just bouncing of his chest.

his better games for me is when has the ball more to his feet with a bit of space.

the weakest player in our whole squad is our captain, he is way out of his depth

Lampard wants to only have high flying clubs to manage, what a woose.

If he doesn’t like a challenge then perhaps he’d be better becoming an ‘Expert’ pundit along with al the other ‘Expert’ pundits.
