Andy Carroll, who has been a free agent since leaving Newcastle this past summer, has joined Reading on a two-month contract until January. Here is the announcement from the Championship club.
Welcome to Reading Football Club, Andy! ?
We are delighted to announce the signing of former-Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll, who signs on a short-term deal until mid-January.#WelcomeAndy | #Royals150
— Reading FC (@ReadingFC) November 15, 2021
Reading boss Veljko Paunovic said the following about his new striker:
“This is a deal which we have been working on for some time and are confident it is the right move for both player and club.
“Andy is looking for a new challenge in his career and we need a player with his quality and vast experience!
“So this is a great match and I’m really looking forward to working with Andy over the next couple of months.”
Carroll, of course, spent the previous two seasons with Newcastle. However, he was unceremoniously released when his contract ran out without even a blurb from the club.
In September, Carroll spoke with Alan Shearer, who wrote an article on their interview in The Athletic. The 32-year-old revealed that he had heard nothing from Newcastle on renewing his contract despite a promise that talks would be held after last season.
Here is some of what Andy told Alan:
“We were talking and mentioning it. I said, ‘What’s happening?’ and it was, ‘At the end of the season we’ll talk about it and that’s how it was left.
“At the end of the season, it wasn’t (talked about). I just kind of got the idea. There was no point in chasing anything.
“Obviously, it was a little bit upsetting for me in that I wanted to be there and all my family wanted me to be there and suddenly I’m not, so I was taken aback.
“It was hard, but that’s how it is and I’ve got to get on with it. That’s how the contract ran out.
“I don’t think I’ve got the energy to be angry about it. It’s not going to change anything, so why even bother? I’ve just go to move on to the next thing.”
Andy has moved to the next thing and that is a chance to earn a longer-term deal with Reading. He should get some immediate playing time once he gets a few weeks of training under his belt.
The Royals have been decimated with injuries this season. They have been without their top two goal scorers from last season in striker Lucas Joao and winger Yakou Meite for the entirety of this campaign.
Star midfielder John Swift has picked up some of the slack with 8 goals. However, their current starting striker, George Puscas, has yet to find the back of the net this season.
Reading are currently 16th in the Championship and ended a four-match losing streak with a win at Birmingham just before the international break.
This is an outstanding opportunity for Andy and we wish him the best of luck at The Madejski Stadium.

Here’s a link to the Mail piece about the KateStewart22 tweeter.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10199497/amp/Saudi-official-linked-Jamal-Khashoggi-murder-accused-trolling-Newcastle-United-critics.html
I wouldn’t be surprised if Saudi is behind it, the so called KateStewart22. It’ll not be the only country using a fake Twitter account to peddle its thoughts.
But, just like Mail to push the Kashoggi connection when it comes to NUFC.

Comment #49ROM, the bicycle at start of video reminds me of a funny story. Some “research group” decided to to see which city was more dodgy. Their idea was o to leave a bike in a public place and see how long it took to be be stolen
1. Amsterdam about 5 mins….. as if there is a bike unlocked in Holland, then you use it and leave itafterwards.
2.London no explanation needed 20 mins
3 Paris… a bit after London
Then Prague, where I lived for 3 years. (best city in the world)
Left it right in the middle of the 2nd busiest square. Still there the next day

What a carry on today, turned up at the heliport at half six then got told it we could fly, stuck in miserable weather in Blackpool all day, finally got here at half six tonight and we’ve been told we’re going home on Thursday 😕
We won’t hold them to that though.

Comment #72You can tell by people’s comments who actually watches Joe play.
Some have it in for him as he isn’t a no9, never was never will be.
We’ll see the best of Joe under Eddie and he’ll be one of his main players.
I expect him in Howe’s first eleven this week up front with Wilson!

This covid pandemic is running amok here on this side of the pond, in our local Craigavon Hospital it is bursting to capacity all the wards full and the corridors also, and they had to turn ambulance`s away to other hospitals in N Ireland today, all this despite the fact a high percentage of our population have had the vaccine, but sadly the small amount of anti vaxxers are lets us down.

The countries with the highest infection rates just so happen to be the countries with the highest percentage of the population vaccinated.
