Kell Watts returned from his ankle injury on Tuesday evening. The defender started in Wigan’s 2-1 win at Solihull Moors in an FA Cup First Round replay. Watts had missed the previous two league matches after suffering the injury in the initial FA Cup tie.
It was deadlocked after full-time at a goal apiece. But The Latics got a winner in the 104th minute from midfielder Callum Lang to advance to the second round. Watts was able to play the full match, which was his 17th appearance during his loan spell.
Matty Longstaff got a rare run out in Aberdeen’s 1-0 defeat at Dundee United on Saturday. Matty was brought on in the 73rd minute for Jack Gurr for just his fifth appearance.
The match was 0-0 heading into the break when both teams had a player sent off within minutes of each other. It was still scoreless when Matty came on in the second half. Unfortunately, Dundee got the winner in the 80th minute through Ian Harkes.
Aberdeen have now lost two straight matches and find themselves in the bottom half of the Scottish Premiership. The nervy times has manager Stephen Glass preferring experience over youth at the moment.
Rodrigo Vilca continues to gain valuable experience during his loan spell. He started Doncaster’s 0-0 draw against Lincoln City at home yesterday. Vilca was brought off in the 94th minute for Lirak Hasani.
This was Vilca’s 12th appearance overall and 7th start in the league. Doncaster are still mired in 23rd place in the League One table.
Lewis Cass and Port Vale suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat at Oldham Athletic on Saturday. Cass started and played the entire match which was tied at 2-2 heading into stoppage time.
Unfortunately, an own goal from Aaron Martin in the 93rd minute has resigned The Valiants to the 3-2 defeat. They are currently in third in the League Two table. Cass has made 16 appearances so far this term, 11 of which have been league starts.
Oisin McEntee and Tom Allan both started in Greenock Morton’s 2-1 defeat at Raith Rovers. It was McEntee’s 9th start and Allan’s 10th appearance. Greenock Morton are now second bottom of the Scottish Championship.
Jake Turner was brought on in the 48th minute of Colchester’s 1-0 defeat at Stevenage when starting Goalkeeper Shamal George was forced off with an injury. It was just the third appearance for Jake. He helped to keep Stevenage, who had converted a penalty just before halftime, quiet in the second half.

We’ll need to do a lot better than that in order to survive.
A Ramsey in MF and a Cavani type goal machine, at least.
Can we attract such calibre players, given that we’re odds on to go down.
I think I know the magic ingredient:
Money.

Comment #8Ramsey is on 400k a week, does anyone really think a club in our position would pay that much for his services, and if not , would he take a huge pay cut to join us?
Either way i think it`s a non starter.

Comment #15Ramsey is on ridiculous wages because he went there on free transfer, and instead of a massive signing on fee he got nearly half a million a week! Which is ridiculous…Personally I wouldn’t really want him anyway, our defence has to be priority. A defensive midfielder, and descent back up for Wilson. I do think we need players that are going to accept playing in championship for a season, although personally I think we stay up, there’s a huge chance we go down.

Comment #17Ramsey would be a great signing for us in January. But we also need another striker, a DM and centre half!
Those 4 for say Ā£60 million! The owners have already said they will strengthen!

Comment #20Moonraker, Ramsey is 100% better than anyone we currently have in mid, but he’s nearly 30, injury prone and on huge wages… I think there are better options out there is all.

Comment #21I find it really strange that Steve Bruce’s name has not yet come into the mix for Manchester United after the dismissal of OGS.
After all so many confirmed he was a first class manager at NUFC including many who felt he was badly done to at Newcastle, Sol Campbell and the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Robbie Savage, Chris Sutton, Gabby Agbonlahor, Trevor Sinclair, Simon Jordan, Richard Keys and many others including almost every journalist under the sun.
Surely it’s only a matter of time before Steve Bruce gets his chance at his beloved Manchester United at the theatre of dreams – Old Trafford.
I’m surprised the announcement has not yet been made! Time will tell eh?

What we have to understand is that a lot of these players are multi millionaires anyway, it really isn’t going to be as simple as chucking money at whoever we want, imo we really are not in a position to be attracting players like Ramsay or Cavani.

There is no doubt that the owners will strengthen, someone said yesterday “they haven’t spent Ā£300M to accept playing in the championship”. Of course they’ll strengthen and I think they’ll do everything within their means to get us out of the clarts. However we have to be realistic in who we can attract, there will be quality out there who will join and hopefully the DoF we have lined up already has a list that will realistically join us in January, all I’m saying is I don’t think it’ll be any of the names all of us are putting forward.

Comment #40I must admit Iām getting worried that Iām worried that we are moving so slow for the director of football. We had reports from the media multiple times that players/managers say that they are worried by our lack of plan and structure. Why are we so slow in bringing in a DOF with a good name and Reputation? I think that will be our most important signing right now. And the DOF that are coming in will need all the time he can get before the January window ass well..
